Significant Mother Season 1 Episode 3 Review: Doing the Hokey Pokey

at .  Updated at .

How does doing the Hokey Pokey get you pregnant? Ask Jimmy. He’ll explain it on Significant Mother Season 1 Episode 3.

Trust me, you’ll never hear that song the same way again.

Keeping Secrets - Significant Mother

It all started off with Wash and Dry Wednesday. Normally, I think a grown man going home to his mother’s to do his laundry is kind of pathetic, but Nate and Lydia actually made it look cute, almost a bonding experience. What I really want to know is why Nate decided to name his teddy bear Andy Rooney and how old he was at the time.

Lydia losing last night’s dinner in Nate’s laundry basket was an entirely different form of bonding. I like how close Lydia is with Nate, but as they stood over the pregnancy test stick together, I had to wonder…does Lydia have any girlfriends?

Suddenly Lydia was swearing Nate to secrecy. That cute little bear she cuddled and cooed over just a moment ago would lose his head like a character on Game of Thrones if Nate spilled the beans to Jimmy. The threat may have been worth something if it weren’t for the Jack Nicholson eyebrow tell.

While Nate trying to hide his eyebrows via headbands, huge sunglasses and hats was cute, the jokes about maxi pads, yeast infections and herpes only made me cringe.

Of course the truth came out, not only to Jimmy but to Harrison, too. Maybe Lydia needs to change the locks because I wouldn't be surprised if Harrison kept a copy of that key.

Harrison, who’s having a you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone moment, wants Lydia back and is willing to wait until her fling with Jimmy is over. But are Jimmy and Lydia destined to fail? Hearing Jimmy explain his method of birth control in this Significant Mother quote didn’t invoke much confidence in anything…

She can't be pregnant, I did the hokey pokey. I put my whole self in, I pulled my whole self out.

Jimmy

Please tell me he only used this particular method with Lydia and not the numerous other women he’s supposedly had casual sex with, or else Significant Mother needs to sponsor a special message about STD prevention at the end of an episode.

But this is a comedy…so I’ll let that one go in favor of Lydia’s concerns about having a baby in her 40s.

There's a part of me that's excited about a baby and the other part of me is really worried about a geriatric pregnancy. I mean, do I really want to enroll my vagina in AARP?

Lydia

Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, Lydia wasn’t really pregnant, and although it was a relief, it was also a little sad. As was killing off Dr. Richter! Was a dead OB-GYN really necessary? Or perhaps, as a fan of Robert Picardo, I could be taking that one a little too personally.

Before the results about the baby were in, Jimmy told Lydia, “I can handle it as long as we’re in this together.” That makes me think this unlikely, but adorable couple, might just have a future.

Highlights from “Who’s Your Daddy”:

  • They have an actual Truth candle with “Veritas” scrawled across it.
  • Jimmy in nothing but his underwear. More of this. Please!
  • Who doesn’t want to try Honesty Is the Best Pilsner?

Significant Mother has now ruined cucumbers and the hokey pokey for me…in the best possible ways. I look forward to seeing what Significant Mother Season 1 Episode 4 brings next week. And if you can’t wait until then, you can watch Significant Mother online here at TV Fanatic.

Because I'd like to be sure when I tell my 26-year-old boyfriend he's about to be a father. I don't want to freak him out for nothing.

I would never miss Wash and Dry Wednesday with you. That's our thing?
