Quantico Round Table: Is Ryan The One Framing Alex?

at .

On Quantico Season 1 Episode 5, we witnessed that when the NATS are out in the field, sparks will fly, even if we don't want them to. We had hookups and a break up, although since Max and Simon weren't actually dating, is it still a break up?

Below, TV Fanatics Liz Estey, Paul Dailly, and Allison share their theories, and weigh in on one theory that Ryan is the one who is framing Alex.

Caleb has a whole different persona, Mark Raymond. What do you think he's up to, and can it be innocent or is there something devious going on?

Liz: I will never trust Caleb. I have no idea what he's doing with an alternate persona but it can't be good. If we assume he's innocent then perhaps he's just trying to make a name for himself away from his family. However, I doubt that he's innocent.

Paul: I honestly don't think he's innocent. There's got to be a reason that he popped back up in Quantico after getting kicked out and I refuse to believe it's because of his parents.

Allison: I highly doubt it is completely innocent. I can’t figure out what he is up to though. I agree with Paul. Family is not a good enough reason for Caleb to go back to Quantico as an analyst in training. There’s something more going on there.

Do you believe Simon's sob story?

Liz: I really want to believe him but I'm not sure I do. He still seems so shifty, especially since he got kicked out of Quantico and still became an agent. How does that even happen? Maybe I'm wrong, maybe he and Nimah will ride off into the sunset. P.S. Where are Nimah and Reyna in the present? And why wasn't Natalie in this episode at all?

Paul: Yeah, Natalie just disappeared this week. Maybe ABC saw our answers last week and ordered some last minute edits to take her out. Back to Simon. Again, I don't trust him. I don't trust anyone. Not even Alex.

Allison: I am done giving Simon chances. He will have to do something pretty heroic to make me trust him again. His answer to Elias did make sense, but I still don’t trust him. Ha! That must be the case, Paul. ABC uses our roundtable as a focus group of sorts to see how we react to people. Yes, ABC execs, keep Natalie off my screen. Thank you.

Are you surprised that Liam has valid reasons for believing Alex has intel that could harm the FBI? Any ideas on what the intel is or where she picked it up?

Liz: I'm still not sure Liam has valid reasons since Miranda wouldn't tell Ryan any of the details. Given the stunt he pulled with her father's file I seriously doubt he has good intentions. If she does have intel, my bet is that it's related to her father and corruption in the FBI. Logically, that would make the most sense. (although this show doesn't really care for logic)

Paul: I don't believe he has valid reasons. Miranda has probably let it slide because she was feeling all sentimental in the hotel where they promised to leave their partners. It doesn't get any more romantic, does it?

Allison: I’m wondering if maybe whatever Alex might know would make Miranda look back. She was partners with Liam, if I am remembering correctly, so maybe they did something shady on a mission back in the day that they would rather stay a secret.

A commenter shared their theory that Ryan is the one framing Alex, and cited how Ryan's shoulder wound that he got from the gunman at Alex's apartment is almost identical to the one he got from a paintball during the mission of the week on Quantico Season 1 Episode 4. What's your take on this theory?

Liz: I could buy it, although it would be a shame for her character because she already has massive trust issues. It would be in keeping with the soapy writing for her love interest to turn on her. Given the nature of the show, I feel confident that no matter who actually is the terrorist, it will not be black and white.

Paul: It easily could be Ryan, but it would be a bit much considering how strong he's been coming on to Alex.

Allison: I’m wondering if maybe Ryan starts framing Alex a little down the line. There could be more than one person behind this frame job, and maybe Ryan joined the mission a little bit down the line. I do think that the similarities between Ryan’s paintball wound and his bullet wound can’t just be a coincidence.

Alex made good progress with her broadcast. What's her next step in clearing her name?

Liz: It's nice to see some people believe her. It would have been really frustrating as a viewer to have public opinion completely against her. The next step for Alex and her allies is actually proving that she didn't bomb Grand Central. It would be nice to find the real terrorist, but at the very least she should prove her innocence.

Paul: Yeah, I'm glad some people to do believe her, because I don't. I have no idea what she's up to next.

Allison: I’m hoping that more people will help her out, even if it is just by them starting their own investigation into who really bombed Grand Central. Maybe someone can start a Serial-esque podcast documenting their journey to find the truth.
