The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 3 Review: Thank You

at .  Updated at .

The title for The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 3 was “Thank You,” but I feel like I’d like to say, “No thank you,” after that major death.

Because as much as other stuff was happening with Rick and the walker herders, the biggest moment was Glenn getting his guts ripped out.

And that was just depressing.

The way that the hour didn’t let up after the bloody chaos of The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 2 was a smart move, and it made things feel that much more intense. This wasn’t some skip down the yellow brick road back to Alexandria, this was a do or die situation for the gang and potentially the unsuspecting Alexandrians.

Of course, there were some added random characters the episode tried to make you care about on the journey back, but they just seemed like obvious walker fodder. No surprise most of them didn’t make it home.

But that kind of went along with Rick’s preaching about a bunch of them just not going to make it in this world. Though, I’m pretty sure he was talking about the Alexandrians, not his pals.

Glenn’s death was a harsh and painful jolt of reality that re-emphasized that even an experienced survivor could die on this show.

I had a sneaking suspicion that Glenn was going to get killed, even though I didn’t want to trust my gut. And I had hoped that as Glenn went on a pretty much suicide mission with Nicholas, that the latter character would wind up truly redeeming himself and get the gang out of that town.

Unfortunately, the two found themselves with their backs against the wall and Nicholas shockingly shot himself, and then he and Glenn went diving into the mosh pit of walkers. The whole moment was hard to watch, considering how long we’ve gotten to know Glenn and be with him on his journey. Seeing him scream in agony was far more affecting than any of the other deaths on the episode.

But did he actually die? Were those perhaps Nicholas’ guts, and Glenn was underneath him?

On the one hand, I’d love to see Glenn back and have managed to survive the impossible. But that would also feel like such a cheat from the show, too.

And what made that death have even more of an impact was the way the episode didn’t merely end because one major character was killed. The story kept going. The survivors had to try and keep surviving.

Rick was forced to fight off a bunch of the Wolves that Morgan let go (at least I think those were the ones), and Daryl regrouped with Sasha and Abraham to complete their walker mission, and Michonne, Heath, and that one other character stumbled back into the war-torn community of Alexandria.

Oh, yeah, and Rick seemed pretty much trapped by the wave of walkers, but he can’t die, can he?

I am still confused how it took Morgan like no time at all to make it back, but everyone else seemed to have taken the long road home.

And doesn’t it seem like walkers have better hearing than humans? So many times we see some character surprised by a walker that tiptoed behind them, but when someone knocks over one thing in a pet store, all the walkers hear it.

That said, this overall was an insane hour of The Walking Dead Season 6 that never let up. It's sure going to take a while to really get over this latest major death, even as the story and the characters are forced to keep moving on and forward.

How sad are you that Glenn is dead? Or is he dead? Sound off below, and catch the insane hour all over again when you watch The Walking Dead online.

Note: The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 4, "Here's Not Here," airs on Nov. 1 at 9 p.m.
