Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce Season 2 Episode 3 Review: Rule #8

Whose character arc are you finding most riveting so far this season?

After watching Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce Season 2 Episode 3, I'm going hands down with Delia's character as the most interesting so far. I simply cannot get enough. She's putting forth the most complex set of emotions and that's so compelling to watch.

The Happy Couple - Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce

As enjoyable as it was cheering for Jake and Abby to find their way back to each other during Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce Season 1, in very short order they've become more painful than expected.

After everything they've been through, to have found their way back to each other, they have to either decide to overlook some of their pain-in-the-ass traits or just let go. Lilly discovering they might be together is too close for comfort. It will rip all of their lives apart if things get so far down the road that another amicable breakup isn't in the cards.

The trailer for Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce Season 2 Episode 4 said we'll know once and for all whether they're going to make it work. That early in the game, I'm assuming it's not going to happen. I'd be OK with that now. You?

Maybe that would allow Jo to step back into Abby's life again and recognize the guy she's looking for with so much passion is actually Mr. No Sex for You, Scott. It's so obvious he's into her, and she's just pushing him away because she thinks he's all sex no relationship. I see a future there. More than Shrimp Man. Lawdy that was awful!

Note to self: be happy you have never succumbed to Tinder!

Phoebe is still reeling from the absence of Marco in her life, and was pinch hitting by helping out Delia. The thing is, Delia's just really not into the wedding.

Look, Delia, our backgrounds are not that different. Nobody told us that sometimes people stay, and they do their best to love us. And you were right, about everything. I am messed up about Marco, and I try to fix everybody else's stuff because I don't have the first clue how to fix my own, but I am so proud of you for making this huge, open-hearted leap.

Phoebe

After insulting her over and over again, I'm so glad that's where the two ended up, because it could have gone another way.

It makes sense that Delia's been thinking Gordon might leave her, and thus she's not putting much thought into the wedding. After all, every friend she has is divorced, and she's a friggin' divorce attorney! Endings are all she sees.

She also has no family close to her to be a part of the experience and generally doesn't want to see what all the fuss is about so that she doesn't get hurt. She protects herself at all costs, even going so far as to push at Gordon by insulting his mother by texting in her company and continually telling Gordon how little the wedding means to her.

If Gordon didn't love her so much and know her so well, he would otherwise think she didn't believe in them. Any lesser man would come to that conclusion, which says a lot about Gordon. Traditionally, that's what women the world over think when their fiance's don't want to do wedding things; they really don't want to get married.

Delia's thought that Gordon's mom might be setting her up to think she's well liked only to later treat her poorly and was really a stretch, but it was also very sad. Raised without her mother and not quite understanding her father led her to mind to some far off places.

I'd like to see Jo's role expand a bit so she can be fleshed out, and I believe her ex is on the way, so that should give her some more material. Spending time with Phoebe is a good jumping off point, as well. Let's get them out and about.

Let me know what you thought of Rule #8 and whose arc you're most enjoying!

Jake: How do you know Dr. Harris?
Abby: Which doctor? Who?
Jake: No, not Doctor Who. I wish.

Abby: The night that I broke up with Will, after you and I were back together, things got physical.
Jake: ! He hit you?? [silence] Oh, no. The other kind of physical. OK.
