Rumplestiltskin received some shocking news, Hades decided who he wants to keep in the Underworld, and Killian and Emma were finally reunited on Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 14.

Our TV Fanatics Allison Nichols, Christine Laskodi, Robin Harry, and Jim Garner are joined by Gareth from Once Upon a Fan to debate Rumple’s “killing” Milah, the baby on the way and why Hades chose to keep the heroines instead of the heroes in “Devil’s Due.”

On a scale of necessary to outright evil, where do you rank Rumplestiltskin throwing Milah into the River of Lost Souls?

Allison: Outright evil, which is typically Rumple's default setting. He already deprived her of a second child, and now, Rumple deprived Milah of being reunited and forgiven by her son. 

Gareth: It was pretty evil. I was kind of hoping she would move on and be reunited with Neal, but all my hopes were dashed when Gold chose the darker side of his nature. At this point, I’m not sure where they are going with Rumple. He’s redeemed himself so many times only to fall into bad habits once again. He’s a classic addict, making bad choices for a quick fix of power. 

Christine: It was so awful! But I suppose I'd expect nothing less of Rumple. He's a jerk when he wants power for himself.

Robin: It was absolutely outright evil, but it almost looked like it was a reflex reaction or out of his control for a second there. The way he shouted her name made me think that it's not something he consciously intended to do. Also, I don't think that his motivation at that point was power; Hades promised him a way home and he wanted to get back to Belle and his unborn child. Does that make it better? Well, not really. 

Jim: Outright evil! Having recently re-watched Hercules, I'm holding out a small glimmer of hope that some how Milah can be saved.  

Should Rumplestiltskin have killed the man for the cure or made the deal to hand over his second child?

Allison: Couldn't he have set up some repayment plan or something? There really isn't a good answer here. Rumple should not have killed the guy, but he shouldn't have made that deal without consulting Milah first.

Gareth: It was quite a selfish act and helped us gain greater understanding about the bitterness and hatred that Milah felt towards him. It still doesn’t excuse the fact that she left her child, but it made the whole situation between Rumple and Milah much more grey in shade. 

Christine: I agree with Allison! There should have been a payment schedule! But seriously, there's not a good answer. Yeah, what he did was super crappy. But at least we can see (if we didn't already know) why Milah can't stand him. 

Robin: Ooooh, ethics!! This is complicated, because neither action is a good one. I totally agree that Milah should have been part of this decision, but the question here is murder in the present vs loss of a potential future that may have never happened. From my own ethical point of view, Rumple's decision wins, but that definitely won't be the right answer for everyone. 

Jim: As Gareth pointed out, the deal makes Milah leaving Rumple feel more justified. Rumple had no good choices, but making a deal for a child you never expect to have seems like a better choice than killing a man. 

Any idea why Hades wants to keep Regina, Emma, and Snow in the Underworld?

Allison: I'm not sure why he requires three people to stay in the Underworld. Is it because Emma and company have "freed" three people since they've been here? I can't get over the fact that he picked three women. I mean I know he is Hades, but seriously?

Gareth: No clue at this point. Perhaps they are the key characters who can undo his plans. We still don’t know why the Underworld looks like Storybrooke. Was Hades responsible for creating the Dark Curse which created Storybrooke? I have a feeling it will all be connected. 

Christine: I assume the three are tied to the three souls saved. But maybe it's a strong women, or women in power type of thing? There's got to be something to his specific need for THEM.

Robin: My thoughts are the same as Gareth's; if there's anyone who can ruin things for Hades, it would be those three. Together, those three are the most powerful people in Storybrooke. He probably wants to keep them in "Underbrooke" so that Rumpel can go up and keep sending him people. That said, I feel like they will just cause more trouble for him there too.

Jim: Gareth and Robin's guess is as good as I could do. Emma, Snow, and Regina are certainly the three people who could most stop his plans.  

Were you shocked to find out that Belle is pregnant and how do you hope this story plays out?

Allison: No, I figured it was coming. I'm just upset that this is about Rumple. Belle is going to have to pay the price for his actions.

Gareth: I had a feeling they would incorporate Emilie de Ravin's pregnancy into the storyline so I was half expecting it, but I loved how they pulled it off with the deal Rumple made. It is fun to see Rumple getting a taste of his own medicine. 

Christine: Can't they just hide her pregnancy with menus from Granny's or something? I feel like this pregnancy is so forced and unnecessary. Belle deserves better than this.

Robin: I'm with Gareth, I loved this twist. I thought it was well done, and it brings a new issue into Rumpelstiltskin's life other than Dark One nonsense. I'm interested to see how he acts now that he's Hades' puppet, and for the first time ever, I'm interested in seeing how Grandpa Pan works in this situation as well. 

Jim: I didn't know Emilie was pregnant, but I guessed she must be since this story line came out of the blue. So, not super shocked, but was still a bit surprised. 

Was there anything in “Devil’s Due” that disappointed you?

Allison: I wasn't a fan of the Rumple/Belle twist. I wish Belle could have her own storyline that had absolutely nothing to do with Rumple. She's badass, but we haven't really allowed her a chance to shine.

Gareth: Another great episode. I loved seeing old plot strands being tied up. It was nice to get some resolution to the whole Milah situation. This part of the season reminds me of everything I loved about Once in the first place. Getting back to the core characters and their history.

Christine: Yeah, I'm not jazzed about the Belle pregnancy, and I also didn't love the Regina/Cruella stuff. But regardless, the episode moved the plot forward, and really, so long as it does that, it's an episode worth watching!

Robin: Yes, Christine, what was with the Regina/Cruella thing?! Otherwise, I quite enjoyed this episode. It's like the writers heard me crying for Robert Carlyle to be given more interesting work to do! 

Jim: I was bummed that Milah went into the river and our heroes didn't even consider if she could be saved or not. After all, if something is lost, can't it be found? 

What was your favorite quote or scene from Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 14?

Allison: The Captain Swan reunion! It was far too short, but I enjoyed every minute of it.

Gareth: The scenes between Rumple and Hades were great fun. They spar well together.

Christine: I loved the Captain Swan reunion! But I also really got a kick out of Milah meeting Emma and saying, "So you've been with my ex-lover and my son!" So soapy and so wonderful!

Robin: I don't know why, but there's something about the scene with Regina and the horse that just moved me immensely. It was uplifting, in some way. 

Jim: I loved the Milah and Emma meeting. As Christine pointed out it was pretty soapy, but still a lot of fun!
