Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 14 Review: Devil's Due

at .  Updated at .

Our intrepid heroes and villains found themselves one step closer to Hell in Once Upon a Time Season 5 Episode 14

Everyone wants to leave the Underworld, and it’s hard to blame them. Pan wants out. Cruella wants out. The problem is, Hades needs more souls, and he’s willing to play dirty to get them. He’s even willing to go toe to toe with the Dark One and hold his unborn baby hostage!

I had no idea why Rumplestilskin dropped that crystal ball when he saw Belle in it. I kept thinking I must have missed something, but it was simply the moment he realized he was going to have another child.

The flashbacks to Mila had me remembering what a complicated character she was. She wasn’t exactly kind to her husband even when Rumplestilskin was still a good man, but I certainly couldn’t blame her for being furious with him for making that deal without her consent.

Despite their complicated past, it felt as though throwing Mila into the River of Lost Souls was one of the most evil things Rumplestilskin’s has ever done. He damned her to an eternity of suffering, and she surely did not deserve that.

One of the best moments was when Mila and Emma finally met and Mila’s reaction in this Once Upon a Time quote

So, you've been with my former lover and my son.

Mila

Awkward! And yet the two women quickly got along well enough to work together and save Killian.

I’m thrilled Killian is no longer in Hades' clutches. Watching him be tortured these last few weeks has not been fun, and even if things are far from perfect, at least he and Emma are in it together.

There were a lot of things to love in this installment. Regina looking for Daniel’s headstone really showed how he’ll always have a part of her heart. My only complaint is that we’ve seen so little of Robin in the last few episodes.

I also appreciated that Regina didn’t hesitate to try and help that horse. She and Snow have always loved horses and I think that love of animals is what allowed her to access her magic without having to think about it.

So, Hades decided to keep the women and let the men go? Not that he’s letting anyone go, per se. Finding a way out of the Underworld won’t be easy for anyone, but what do the headstones mean? Do Emma, Regina, and Snow all have unfinished business they’ll have to deal with before they can escape?

But Belle and Rumplestiltskin’s baby was definitely the shocker I didn’t see coming. Will Hades somehow lure Belle to the Underworld? Will he simply own that baby’s soul for all eternity? What are the details of this contract and will Rumple be able to find a loophole this time?

Check back later this week to see what our Once Upon a Time round table team has to say, and if you missed a minute, you’ll want to watch Once Upon a Time online here at TV Fanatic.
