Chuck and the Winchester brothers reuniting?
Bet they never would have guessed their friend is actually God.
Supernatural Season 11 Episode 21 brought the various players together as they tried to figure out how to battle the Darkness, including a rescue mission, a new prophet and God talking about sacrifice.
TV Fanatic staff writers Sean McKenna and Christine Laskodi and The Winchester Family Business’ Alice and Nightsky are eager to talk “All in the Family.”

What was your favorite scene or quote?
Nightsky: Without a doubt, the first conversation between Dean and God in the bunker. Both the questions Dean asked and the answers God gave were sensitive and insightful. Jensen Ackles and Rob Benedict were absolutely exceptional in that scene. It could have been one notch better, though, if the conversation was extended and Sam’s very personal relationship with God was also touched upon. I’m hoping that is still to come.
Alice: I’m going for quote, or at least this fantastic piece of dialogue when Donatello and Chuck meet for the first time:
Donatello: “I guess you know that I was an atheist, until 10 minutes ago. Is that an issue?” Chuck: “Not from me. I mean, I believe in me, but your skepticism is to be expected. I did include free will in the kit.”
Christine: I'd say that moment when Dean was questioning Chuck about where he was all this time, and why he allowed them to go through the experiences that he did. That was some prime acting on Jensen Ackles' part. He had me tearing up.
Sean: I have to agree about the scene where Dean questioned where God has been this whole time. It was such a standout performance from Jensen Ackles. Definitely a memorable moment for sure.
What did you think of Donatello, the new prophet?
Nightsky: He made a positive first impression. I thought he was funny and convincing as a prophet. He didn’t have a whiny voice or any irritating habits so I wouldn’t mind seeing him again!
Alice: I love him. He's an interesting change from Kevin and Chuck, and I'm all about interesting. The fact is he was an atheist made it better. I especially loved though how calmly he took this whole being a prophet thing. Its great when new people just accept this Supernatural world madness and go with the flow.
Christine: I enjoyed how accepting he was of everything, even being an atheist. Like Alice said, I just liked that he was so different from what we've seen before. I'd definitely like to see more of him in the future.
Sean: He didn’t blow me away as like a new favorite character, but I liked that he was different from what we’ve seen before. The atheist angle was a good one and added some humor to certain moments. I’m hoping we get to see more of him at least, and explore his character some more.
Were you surprised Metatron stayed to take on the Darkness?
Nightsky: Yes. I don’t think he truly believed his angel spell would destroy her. It took God and several archangels to cage her the first time. Did he think it would slow her down? If so, his ride left without him so he didn’t have an avenue of escape. That leaves us with him knowingly sacrificing himself to buy time for the others. He said he wanted to do what he could to help God, so, like Castiel, this was his way to “be of service to the cause.”
Alice: I guess not. I just wish I knew why. Did I miss something in the plot exposition? Did he do that because Chuck's book said he would do that or was he doing it to protect his bestie? Or was it that he knew where he was being sent and he had a new mission to take on? Yeah, it just didn't add up for me and took away from his luster from last week.
Christine: Yes and no. It seemed like he'd grown in leaps and bounds over the last few episodes and that doing the heroic thing felt right for him. But I also don't think he realized he'd die. He honestly thought he was going to put Amara at bay. He seemed shocked when nothing happened.
Sean: I think Metatron at least knew he was facing pretty impossible odds even if his spell didn’t work against her. He managed to let his friends get some time, but I was a bit bummed he had to go out. He has grown as a character, especially in redeeming himself.
Can Lucifer and God work together to fight the Darkness?
Nightsky: Yes. Lucifer wants Amara destroyed or caged, both for revenge and to save God’s creation. Lucifer will surely try to play some angle or pull some kind of double-cross, but I think God will be ready for him.
Alice: Sure they can. The question is do I want to watch all that family drama while they’re setting aside their differences for the common good? I was not impressed at all with the grand God/Lucifer reunion at the end of this episode. It was definitely lacking something. We’ll see how it all plays out in the final two episodes.
Christine: I think so. I also agree though that the reunion at the end of the episode was a bit of a letdown. Maybe if it had been Mark Pellegrino it would have played out differently? Regardless, Chuck and Lucifer both know that neither one of them can put Amara away by themselves. It will only work if they work as a team, and even then, they could still fail.
Sean: I think they have to in order to defeat the Darkness. But that doesn’t mean that some double-cross or something won’t happen either. Even if the Darkness is defeated, it’s not going to be a happy ending.
Will God still try to sacrifice himself?
Nightsky: I really don’t know. Maybe the team has convinced him to try it their way? I’m fairly certain that the finale will be the last we will see of God for a long time, but I absolutely do NOT want this season to end with a godless universe. I cannot believe this show would kill God so I think the worst they will do is cage him in the Empty. My preference, though, is that he mysteriously disappears as he did before, leaving the option open for him to return some day.
Alice: I think this is all his latest test. He’s playing martyr to see if Sam, Dean, Lucifer, Crowley and whoever else will step up to fight the common enemy (he did mention his chosen to Dean). Talk about a team building exercise! Heaven, Hell, and humanity on the same team taking on a seemingly invincible foe. Makes for a great story, doesn't it? Hey, he did it for “Swan Song”, why not this?
Christine: Well, didn't he say that he wasn't going to sacrifice himself to die, but as someone who would go into the cage? To me, if God gets in the cage, that seems like the perfect setup for Supernatural Season 12. I'm okay with any ending that DOESN'T kill Chuck. I can't lose Chuck this late in the game.
Sean: I can see God sacrificing himself, but not dying. There’s going to be some crazy twist at the end I’m sure.
