Bones Round Table: Saving the Cocky Belt Buckle

Our TV Fanatics Ashely Sumerel and Christine Orlando are joined by Pam from CBR Radio to debate whether to keep their books, Booth making that goal and the return of the Cocky belt buckle in Bones Season 11 Episode 19.
Do you prefer an e-reader or real books, like Brennan?
Pam: I like both, I still like to read a hard cover copy of a book. I use a Kindle now because of being visually impaired. You can make the font size very large compared to regular printed books.
Ashley: I actually really like to read on an e-reader, but I like to have actual books. Sometimes I even get a digital version to read on my iPad, but if I like the book, I'll buy a hard copy. As I write that out, I realize it seems a little silly, but what can I say?
Christine: I’ll always like the feel of a real book in my hand, but I have a Kindle Paperwhite, which I love, because I’ve run into the same problem as Brennan! I have too many books and not enough space to keep them. I also can’t bring myself to give up my books.
Did you think that Booth would make that goal?
Pam: No, I saw how he was watching the other man's family and friends who came to see the rematch, and for someone to hold onto something like that for so long meant he had some major problems letting go of the past. Maybe he had few accomplishments in his life and his hockey playing made him feel good about himself. Booth making that goal on him stayed with him most of his life. Booth saw how important this still was and made the choice to miss the goal and make the man feel important to let his friends and family feel proud.
Ashley: Yes. Also, I loved the way he was so excited in this episode. It was just so much fun to watch.
Christine: I knew the moment he got on the ice and saw the man’s friends and family cheering that he’d lose to let the man feel good. Booth is a great guy, and as much as he enjoyed playing again, he didn’t need the ego boost at someone else’s expense.
Who would win the video game contest, Oliver Wells, Hodgins or Aubrey?
Pam: Hodgins, or at least that is who I'd want to win it. Jack is the master at almost anything he sets his mind to; when have we not seen him come through for everyone?
Ashley: You know what? I think Aubrey would. Wells and Hodgins would give him a run for his money, but I'm betting Aubrey would win every time.
Christine: I don’t know, but I’m rooting for Aubrey. It would be a lot of fun to see him best the other two.
We saw Brennan’s many books, Booth’s Cocky belt buckle, and his massive sock collection. Which would you keep?
Pam: My photo albums filled with a lifetime of living and the family and friends who have passed through my life coming and going. If it came down to what they were keeping, I'd go with the books, as you can read them over and over again. Socks wear out and only a few guys can get away with wearing the belt buckle. Ha!
Ashley: If it were my own things, the books. But if we're talking about whether or not I could have Booth's belt buckle, I'd keep that for sure.
Christine: I’m with Ashley on this one. I can’t let go of my books, but as far as the show is concerned, I love the Cocky belt buckle.
What was your favorite scene from this episode?
Pam: Booth seeing how important it was for the man to stop the goal attempt. He knew that it meant so much to him, but not to Booth, so he allowed for a miss to give this man peace of mind for something that has bothered him most of his adult life. Bones saw that, too. She knew he let him win, and she was proud of Booth for giving him that gift.
Ashley: This was a really fun episode in general, but I think the scene I loved the most was when Booth put on the beer hat. It actually felt like a flashback.
Christine: I loved that Angela realized that Brennan’s books meant so much to her because of how they helped her escape during the worst time of her life. And on the flip side, I loved Brennan’s reaction in this Bones quote to the video of the two drunken idiots finding the body…
