Pretty Little Liars Season 7 Episode 2 Review: Bedlam

at .  Updated at .

Is Mary Drake really as bad as we've been led to believe?

On Pretty Little Liars Season 7 Episode 2, we got to meet a much friendlier version of Jessica's twin which helped us see her in a new light.

She was brought onto the show as a new villain, but it sure seems like she's been dealt a bad hand in life. For a start, it seems like Jessica lied about killing a kid, and Mary got the blame.

Say what you want about her, but some of those scenes were somewhat genuine. Her demeanor was a far cry from what we saw of her on Pretty Little Liars Season 6 Episode 20

She seemed dead set on taking the liars out of the equation, but then her argument with Elliot came along.

You'd think that Elliot would want to be nice to the gals so they don't suspect him. Instead it seems he's on a mission to piss them off. Well, they're not about to take that lying down.

These girls are going to be relentless in their quest to save Alison, so he's met his match. There's got to be a reason why he kept Mary out of the loop for two days.

Whoever A.D is, they seem to think they're on the same page as the liars. Could it be a coincidence that Lucas is back in town?

There are a LOT of coincidences in Rosewood, but Lucas has always been one of those characters who could go either way in terms of being evil.

There has to be a reason why he's helping Hanna. I know he was a little too friendly with her back in the beginning, but I just don't see why he would waste his time on her now. He was so full of angst towards her for so long.

It just makes ZERO sense.

It was throwback Thursday for Hanna as she recounted her relationship with Jordan. She felt horrible for the way she treated him, so she pushed herself to try and go back to the start in order to save their relationship.

It was a nice gesture and all, but there was no way she was as into it as she wanted herself to believe. Thankfully, their first meeting place was gone. That gave Hanna the nudge to finally move on with her life.

There's no indication whether that will be single or with Caleb in tow. Either way, things are pretty awkward between Spaleb. Spencer is no doubt going to spiral now that she's been let go from her job, but she kind of feels like the third wheel when Haleb are in a scene with her, so there's that.

As much as I liked Spaleb together, I really couldn't care less which of the women Caleb ends up with. I like both a lot.

Aria's relationship with Liam finally came to an end. He wasn't a great character, but Aria kind of messed him around, so I can totally see why he made it his mission to piss off Ezra.

I did like Ezra getting annoyed about getting feedback from Liam. Sure, Liam crossed a line, but it was good to see Ezra get talked down to.

"Bedlam" was a strong follow-up to Pretty Little Liars Season 7 Episode 1. The show finally has a string of interesting stories that will take us through the final season of the show. Usually there's one interesting storyline in play, with boring ones filling up the rest, so Marlene King got something right this time round.

Other tidbits from the episode:

  • How amazing did Hanna look at her hostile takeover?
  • Mary just seems to float around Rosewood. She might as well be a ghost.
  • Leaving Ali's fate up in the air at the conclusion of the hour was thrilling, but then the promo for Pretty Little Liars Season 7 Episode 3 ruined that momentum.
  • Where are the parents? We need them to hit their kids with some snarky comments!
