13 Things We Want to See on The Walking Dead Season 7

at .

The theories and guesses of who Negan killed have been circulating since The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 16 concluded.

Fans will certainly be waiting for the answer on The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 1, but there’s so much more in store for The Walking Dead Season 7.

In fact, The Walking Dead Season 6’s exploration of a larger world and the introduction of characters such as Jesus and Negan provided a solid jumping off point for a new direction.

Let’s hope the series learns from some of its mistakes (the Glenn debacle and that disappointing cliffhanger come to mind) and delivers fans an exciting new season.

Get pumped for the return of some zombie goodness, and check out a list of 13 things we want to see on The Walking Dead Season 7.

1. Negan being the ultimate villain

Sure, Negan’s a bad guy, he’s knocking heads like its nothing, but it would be great to see his character really embrace the role. Let’s see him separate himself from someone like the Governor and really portray just how smart and scary of an adversary he can be. We saw how great Jeffrey Dean Morgan was as Negan in his brief appearance on The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 16, so bring on more of that!

2. The reveal of who Negan killed

This one is obvious and one we will probably get right away. It was disappointing that The Walking Dead Season 6 finale had so much buildup around the death only to end with a cliffhanger and no pay-off. It’s time to get an answer… even if we may not like the outcome.

3. No more magic dumpsters

Speaking of deaths, can we just get rid of all the magic dumpsters that exist in the world of The Walking Dead. While I’m glad on the one hand that Glenn got to stick around, the whole charade of him “dying” and then sneaking under the dumpster for a few episodes before the “surprise” that he was still alive was ridiculous. Really, the writers should just avoid pulling fake-outs with character deaths.

4. The walkers be a scary and real threat

It’s great to see that a lot of the drama and story comes from character conflicts and humans vs. humans. And it’s clear that after six seasons, Rick and the survivors are rather adept at fighting walkers. But for the most part, walkers feel more like just a nuisance. Let’s feel that scariness again when it comes to walkers and make them feel like a threat to all characters, and not just the minor ones.

5. Exploring more communities within the world

We got to meet Jesus and his people, Negan and his crew and those armored guys that happened upon Morgan and Carol. The expansion of the world only just began on The Walking Dead Season 6, and it should be further explored on The Walking Dead Season 7. So many new stories can come from the various factions, and if I’m not mistaken one of the groups has a tiger…

6. More focus on story and character and less about which character will die

It’s no surprise that characters will get killed off a zombie show, but that shouldn’t be the focus. We should care about where the narrative is headed and really getting to know the characters. I can’t help but think of Lost and its large cast of interesting and well-developed characters, and it’d be nice for The Walking Dead to work on building up its own and not just before killing them off in the same episode. And with an engaging story to match, any deaths will hopefully fit in more organically and have a greater impact. Spending an entire episode only centering on who might die and nothing else seems pointless.

7. Daryl getting some revenge

He was on his way to get revenge for the death of Denise when Dwight stepped in. Not only was Daryl shot, he was captured, had his stuff taken and was placed before Negan. Let’s hope he wasn’t the one to get the bat and instead comes up with a way to get back at Dwight, Negan and the Saviors in a much more calculated and impactful way. Or perhaps he just needs another go with the rocket launcher.

8. The continuation of Rick and Michonne

Whoever Negan kills is certainly going to shake the survivors to their core, and it could even fracture the group going forward. But let’s hope that it doesn’t divide Rick and Michonne who have only recently gotten together. These two are a real power couple, and I’d like to see their relationship continue.

9. An epic sword fight

Michonne is a bad ass with a sword, but she’s mostly used it to cut down walkers with a swift swing. But what if someone else, maybe some adversary, was skilled with a sword as well? With all the gunfire and occasional rocket launchers used, a good-old fashioned sword fight would be both something new and exciting to see.

10. Carol finding a way to heal

By the end of The Walking Dead Season 6, Carol was struggling and dealing with her demons. Hopefully, with the help of Morgan, she can find a way to turn a corner and want to stick around. Carol’s a fantastic character, and it would be sad and disappointing to see her end on a broken note, especially seeing how far she’s grown since we first met her on the show.

11. Some comedy/light-hearted moments amongst all the darkness

The season premiere is sure to kick off a grim beginning, and the general world of The Walking Dead is nothing to laugh at. Though, it would be nice to get some occasional humor or levity mixed in throughout the season. Remember when Daryl and Rick were just hanging out on their drive? Moments that aren’t all gloom and doom can feel like a nice breather before diving back into the intensity.

12. Some flashbacks and backstory

We don’t necessarily need an entire episode devoted to a flashback, as interesting as Morgan’s staff training was, but it would be nice to get some glimpses of the characters’ pasts. It often can add some great insight into a character and/or further reveal just how far they have come since walkers took over the world.

13. Snow?

Rick's certainly got a jacket, so he should be prepared if the snow falls, right? It probably wouldn’t happen, if at all, until perhaps near the end of the season, but imagine how many cool shots or scenes you could get with a white-covered landscape and falling snow! So often the seasons feel very summer or fall on The Walking Dead, but it would be a fun change-up, even if for a brief period of time.
