The comedy series has been firmly on the bubble for the past few months, but we now know the series is returning, but there's a catch.
New Girl Season 7 will serve as the show's swan song.
Yes, New Girl is officially coming to an end, you guys! An episode order is yet to be determined, but there is word the farewell season will span eight episodes.
New Girl Season 6 concluded with Jess and Nick rekindling their romance while dropping the bomb on viewers that Cece and Schmidt were expecting their first child together.
It definitely felt like the powers that be knew the show was on the bubble, so they closed it off in the best way they could. Thankfully for fans, they will have a farewell season to say goodbye to the characters.
New Girl was a huge hit for Fox when it first debuted, with Season 1 averaging 6.5 million viewers and a 3.2 rating among adults 18-49.
Ratings slipped for subsequent seasons, with Season 6 averaging 2.1 million viewers and a 0.9 rating. The show still gets a bump in delayed viewing.
New Girl was Fox's thirteenth highest rated series, so it's understandable that the show's fate was up in the air.
There's also no indication about when the series will return. Fox could hold it for midseason, but we'll get confirmation in the coming days.
