Scandal: Officially Concluding After Season 7! Will There Be a Spin-Off?

Olivia Pope and her team will conclude their gladiating ways for good after Scandal Season 7.

ABC has confirmed that Season 7 will be Olivia's swan song, but stressed that an episode count is yet to be determined.

Olivia Handing Over Everything - Scandal Season 6 Episode 14

“I always prefer to end a show when it’s creatively on top as opposed to letting things dribble out,” Dungey explained.

“Fans of Scandal are going to want the story to end in the way that [series creator] Shonda [Rhimes] intends it to. It’s a decision she felt really good about, and we support wholeheartedly.”

With Scandal Season 6 spanning a shorter run of episodes, it has helped the series recapture some of its former glory.

For the first time in a long time, the episodes have been filled with shocking twists and excellent character interactions.

Olivia and Fitz Get Married...Sort Of - Scandal Season 6 Episode 10

However, with the way the story on Scandal Season 6 has played out, it sort of feels like we're approaching a series finale.

With Olivia getting Mellie into the White House and becoming her Chief of Staff and making Quinn the boss of Olivia Pope and Associates, what else is there left to tell?

We can't forget that Olivia is back with Fitz and, rather surprisingly, the relationship is not taking over the show. Shonda and her team have managed to find the perfect balance of romance, espionage, and humor that has me excited to watch the show on a weekly basis again.

The confirmation comes just two days before the sudsy ABC drama wraps up Season 6. If you watch Scandal online, you will know that the stakes are higher than ever before.

A Stranglehold On Olivia - Scandal

A face from the past showed up on Scandal Season 6 Episode 14 and was revealed to be the one pulling the strings behind the scenes to bring hell on earth for the residents of the United States.

It's becoming increasingly apparent that Season 7 may very well be all about Olivia and Mellie's adventures in the White House, and I'm alright with that.

Despite continued erosion in the ratings, Scandal is still one of the biggest shows on ABC. Season 6 is averaging 5.7 million viewers and a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49.

As always, the series is a force in delayed viewing with the numbers swelling double digits.

Channing Dungey was also quizzed about the potential of a spin-off of either Grey's Anatomy or Scandal. She replied:

"I like the way you think."

At least she did not decline. Something about an Olivia-less O.P.A spin-off sounds interesting.
