Supernatural: New Spinoff Eyed at The CW

Supernatural may be getting a bit long in the tooth, but that does not mean The CW is done trying to turn the show into a franchise.

According to Deadline, a brand new spinoff is being prepared, and the character it will center on is Sheriff Jody Mills.

Sam, Dean and Mary arrive - Supernatural Season 12 Episode 23

If you watch Supernatural online, you will already know that Kim Rhodes' alter ego has been a thrilling character on the series.

She's probably the best character to follow in a potential new series. It will follow Jody and a group of young women, all of them orphaned by supernatural catastrophes.

Jody will train the young women in order for them to become monster fighters. The series is expected to be named Wayward Sisters and will debut as an episode of Supernatural Season 13.

Jody Mills first showed up on Supernatural Season 5 and was an instant hit with fans.

This is not the first time The CW has tried to spin off from the popular drama series.

Back in 2014, the network aired a backdoor pilot for Supernatural: Bloodlines. That pilot starred Lucien Laviscount, Nathaniel Buzolic, Danielle Savre, Melissa Roxburgh, Sean Faris, Stephen Martines and Bryce Johnson.

It centered on a drama about mafia-esque monster families ran the underbelly of Chicago. The humans had no idea any of it was happening.

The episode did not go down that well with critics nor viewers and never made it to series. Mark Pedowitz was vocal in the aftermath about still pursuing a spinoff.

He stressed that it would all come down to the right idea, and it seems they may actually have it with Wayward Sisters.

This may not be the sole spinoff of an existing series the network is eying during the 2017-2018 season.

Word on the street is that The Originals is also gearing up to launch a new series that focuses on a teenage Hope Mikaelson.

What do you think about the spinoff craze going over at the network? Would you give Wayward Sisters a try?

Sound off below.

Note: Supernatural returns in October.

Supernatural Quotes

Why do they call this place The Empty? It's full. It's full of sorrow and despair playing over and over again of angels and demons dreaming about their regrets. Forever.
