Black Lightning: Marvin "Krondon" Jones III Cast as Iconic Villain

at .

Black Lightning is still months away from premiering on The CW, but that does not mean the latest DC TV series is finished casting its freshman season.

The most recent addition is rapper Marvin "Krondon" Jones III who will be playing the iconic villain, Tobias Whale.

Tobias was originally featured in the 1977 issue of the Black Lightning comic. For fans of the comic, you will likely know that it was the first-ever issue he appeared in.

He is an African-American man with albinism, and the character is a politician who becomes the man who murders Alvin Pierce.

Alvin is the father to Cress Williams's character on the TV show, so you can probably expect sparks to fly when they meet on-screen.

In the comics, the villain later becomes the leader of The 100 gang after all of his secrets are revealed to the public.

In other words, he did not get his comeuppance. Whether the TV show will follow that route, we don't know.

“I was excited about Krondon when I saw his audition. He’s going to make a great Tobias!” Executive Producer Salim Akil said in a statement.

“His authentic street sensibility along with an insightful intelligence is perfect for the Tobias character arc. Not to mention his regal physical bearing will be additive to making our show exciting and different.”

Jones is new to the acting scene. His only other TV credit is an episode of NBC's dearly departed Harry's Law.

His primary job is as a solo rapper, so he is branching out from his usual job.

Black Lightning was ordered to series earlier this year and will steer clear of The CW's other DC shows.

Violent Tendencies - Arrow

This means it will not be part of the Arrowverse that includes Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash and DC's Legends of Tomorrow

There will be no five-show crossovers.
