Lucifer Season 3 Episode 11 Review: City of Angels

Maybe if it wasn't a holiday, Lucifer Season 3 Episode 11 would have been more fun.
Then again, fun is fun, and given the opportunity to go back to the beginning, there wasn't a whole lot of it considering.
"City of Angels" was obviously another of the standalone episodes shoveled into Lucifer Season 3 because there was nothing else to do here while we're anxiously awaiting news on Cain.
I'm not going to turn down the opportunity to see Tom Ellis strutting down the Venice promenade like Tony Manero from Saturday Night Fever. If anyone could wear that suit today and get away with it, it would be Ellis. He looked damn good.
Nothing was important enough to drag me to work before my holiday was over, though.
Did I really want to watch and review this on New Year's Day? No. I didn't. It should have been a helluva lot more entertaining than it was for that purpose.
More importantly, didn't we see Amenadiel come to earth for the first time once before? I could have sworn he was a lot more like a fish out of water and damned angry when I thought he first appeared to bring back Lucifer.
Getting caught up in Lucifer's antics was silly and could have been a little more over the top for my liking. Probably the best was Amenadiel training not to fight as the best of God's warriors. The artificial look of straining on his face was priceless.
The porn scene would have been better appreciated if I understood how asking to speak with Misty Canyons turned into anyone believing he was there to star opposite her in the movie. How daft does someone have to be to slap him into the overalls (as if they would have fit him!) and shuffle him before the camera?
Forcing Charlotte into the action wasn't necessary, but it would have been very special if Ella had appeared in some capacity since her role in everything has been questioned of late. Even if she only peered up from a grassy knoll to add to the conspiracy theories surrounding her background, it would have led to more of them.
Chloe and Dan being married seemed much like their relationship today. Do we even know why their marriage fell apart? If I do know, the reason has escaped my mind completely.
They worked well together. Chloe was worried about public displays of affection, and Dan was concerned about Chloe following her gut on cases instead of evidence, but both of those are valid thoughts for couples working together.
Chloe didn't want to be seen as Dan's wife, and Dan didn't want Chloe to fail. Frankly, if it was anything other than a TV show, she would get into trouble for following her gut without a trail of evidence to back it up. Court cases fall apart following trails of guts alone.
It seems a little implausible that Taco Tuesdays started on the same case Lucifer stole his car, got Lux, pulled Maze out of hell, first sensed Chloe and cut off his wings the first time. It's a bit coincidental for so many historical things to happen, but I suppose they didn't want to capture it all with many flashbacks and within one case.
I'm not sure it worked for me. If it worked for you, let me know.
The tensions between Amenadiel and Lucifer weren't any more heightened at this first moment in time on earth than they have been afterwards. Still fighting to be father's best loved son, it was the catalyst driving Lucifer to stay on earth and out of hell.
He didn't look happier having his wings removed the first time than any of the times afterward. God knows I love Linda, but she needs to try a little harder to get through that hard head of his.
Everything Lucifer does is to please his father with the hope he'll get some notification of love and affection. But he might have gotten it with the return of his wings and removal of his devil face, and it's not even a prospect he's considered.
DID those things come from dear old dad? Who knows. But if they did, they're likely to be messed up by Lucifer before he ever gets the chance to find out. He's not the best at reading messages, whether from Amenadiel, Chloe, his mom, or, I'm sure, God.
I just thought about something. With as difficult as his family finds it to understand God, how does anyone expect those who follow him to understand his messages? No wonder there are so many different religions and texts devoted to the fella.
If you watch Lucifer online you know the family have gotten into arguments about the intentions of dad. If three people can't agree on what someone they know intimately says, the rest of the world is screwed!
I can't believe we have to wait three weeks for the next new installment of Lucifer. Not only was this one kind of a waste that should have been a lot more fun, but January 22 has to arrive before we have word of Cain.
