iZombie Round Table: Ravi's Zombie Tendencies, Yay or Nay?

at .

iZombie fanatics were introduced to the New Seattle on iZombie Season 4 Episode 1 and it left quite an impression.

The first episode of the new season was both familiar and refreshingly new. A lot of things have changed in Seattle, including a beloved character.

Join TV Fanatics Stacy Glanzman, Yana Grebenyuk, and Lizzy Buczak as they break down the premiere!

What is your first impression of "the new Seattle"? What do you expect from the rest of the season?

Stacy: It's different, that's for sure. I think it might take a couple of episodes to get used to everyone knowing about zombies, but I like that the show is changing directions. I'm excited to see where they take it this season.

Yana: I don't know why, but I was expecting things to be less sad?

It seems like everything is pretty miserable right now, especially when it comes to Major and his arc. I am hoping the rest of the season isn't like this, but it sounds like things will get worse before they might start to get better.

Lizzy: New Seattle is a terrifying military state; I definitely wouldn't want to live there, but there's also no way out because of the damn wall! These people are basically prisoners in their new city and forced to co-exist.

I don't think Fillmore Graves will be able to control humans and zombies for too long and eventually, one will overpower the other. Maybe Clive was foreshadowing the season when he said the rest of the world will wipe them off the map.

What are your thoughts on Ravi displaying zombie tendencies once a month while still remaining human?

Stacy: It worried me for a second. I don't want Ravi to be a zombie, so I'm glad he's still mostly human. His display of zombie tendencies was funny, and I loved his nudist scene, but I'd still rather him just be 100% human.

Yana: I like that they put such a spin on it. It wouldn't have been as surprising if Ravi just stayed human or just became a zombie. We have seen both of these scenarios and this way they shook things up a bit without making it feel fake.

Lizzy: Like Liv said, it's his time of the month. It'll be interesting to see why the cure only worked partially. What did he do wrong? Will his zombie-state get longer each month until he turns permanently?

I wouldn't be opposed to Ravi as a zombie, especially if he continues eating nudist brains. Plus, it finally gives him a solid storyline where he's able to experience the best of both worlds!

And maybe being both a human and a zombie will lead him to an actual cure and Seattle will return to normal?

Mad Brain Scientist - iZombie Season 4 Episode 1

Is Chase going too far with recruiting teen zombies as soldiers and establishing a guillotine?

Stacy: Yeah, that guillotine is no joke. It'll be interesting to see if it works as a deterrent. As for the teens, it was really sad to hear their experiences, and it sucks that they're basically forced to become soldiers to stay fed. Chase is taking advantage of their desperation.

Yana: That guillotine was not introduced for no reason, it will be used. Mark my words.

Chase has a whole lot on his plate right now, but that sounds like something he should have thought about. I don't think that teen zombies need to be his soldiers just to survive a situation he essentially put them in.

Lizzy: Chase set a plan into motion, and the repercussions have been greater than he could have imagined. Hopefully, the guillotine is just a precautionary measure; I don't want to see him actually beheading "misbehaving" zombies.

Otherwise, why did he turn all these people in the first place? Recruiting young zombies goes in line with the "military state" agenda, where teens are forced to join the military and protect their city.

Thankfully, their mentor is Major, someone who actually has experience with guiding the youth.

Major Identification - iZombie Season 4 Episode 1

What would you rate the premiere and why?

Stacy: I'd give it an A-. It was funny and did a great job of setting up the direction of the season, as a premiere should. I just don't really know how I feel about Ravi having this whole "time of the month" thing.

Yana: I would give it an A because the show didn't disappoint, and it felt great just getting back into everything. I wish things looked a little brighter but that sounds like a ridiculous wish considering the circumstances.

Lizzy: A+! I loved it. It's a fresh take on the "zombie outbreak" storyline, giving the series a new dynamic and the characters new issues to tackle.

Liv no longer has to hide the fact that she's a zombie, but now she's become a target for humans. Relationships between humans and zombies are strained, yet those who find themselves involved in a human/zombie relationship have to be careful as to not scratch/pass the zombie virus, which is punishable with the death penalty.

With zombies running rampant all over town, Blaine has to change up his business model while Major has to refocus and find his place amongst Fillmore Graves.

What was your favorite scene and/or quote?

Stacy: As a football fan, I was cracking up at Liv arguing with the 49ers fan. I don't root for either team, but I don't like the Patriots, and everyone knows the Seahawks should have given the ball to Marshawn Lynch! I'm sure there are some fans who will never get over that.

Yana: Anything involving Ravi is great. The way that Major didn't even react to Ravi being naked definitely made me laugh.

Lizzy: The favorite quote comes from Liv: "It's called beast mode." Favorite scene: Liv in a full Seahawks get-up complete with face paint. Peyton's reaction was priceless!

Clive: Why bother? Someone is probably going to bomb us any day now.

Blaine: Is that a guillotine?
Chase: Of sorts. It's a guillotine for zombies.
Blaine: But why? We're zombies.
Chase: Zero tolerance. That's our message.
Blaine: Message received.
