The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 13 Review: Release the Hounds

at .

The Last Man on Earth delivers a funny and enjoyable episode, with one of their classic twists.

On The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 13, Carol and Tandy want to start their physical relationship again after the birth of their babies. Meanwhile, Erica tells Todd that she does not want to be the mother of his baby, which sends him into a deep depression for months.

discussion with Gail - The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 13

I laughed more during Tandy and Carol's scenes than I have in a long time. Will Forte's strip teases, and Carol's reactions to them, were uncomfortable but hilarious to watch.

I feel like it has been a while since we saw these two in a storyline about their relationship.

Forte and Kristen Schaal are always hysterical, and I enjoyed the focus shifting back to them.

Your lower back hair is catching the light in the most beautiful way. It's like I'm seeing it for the first time.

Carol

I had forgotten about their weird sex routine until this, and it is still just as awkward to watch. I do not understand how Forte and Schaal manage to film those scenes without breaking character.

My only complaint is that I do not know how I feel about Carol being pregnant again. My first instinct is to hate the decision, especially if Erica also becomes pregnant soon.

I have been vocal about how the babies have not really seemed to serve a purpose on the show in my past reviews. If they start overflowing the house with infants, it could be too much.

I have learned, though, to have a little faith in the creative team. They always manage to surprise me. So, I will reserve my full judgment until we see how this goes.

Melissa and Todd - The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 13

Mel Rodriguez gave a great performance as a depressed Todd.

He is always one of my favorite parts of the show, but as someone with depression, I related to his desire to lay in bed and not move.

I have definitely been in that position before, and I thought Mel played it wonderfully.

Todd: Do you like your baby?
Erica: Ehhh. I don't know. She's alright, I guess.

I was not too surprised that Erica initially said no to having a baby.

I figured she would because it is such a big thing to ask of someone. I was not, however, expecting her to change her mind.

I am excited, though, that Todd now has the opportunity to be a father.

We have seen that he has fantastic paternal qualities, and I look forward to watching him in that role if the series gets renewed.

Carol and Tandy - The Last Man on Earth

Time is odd on this show.

We found out that it has only been two weeks since Carol had her babies in The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 6, and I was shocked.

I had assumed a month had passed since their birth, at the very least, especially since it has been seven episodes since then.

I appreciated how quiet the time jump was. It was not a big, flashy moment.

Instead, it was revealed subtly with Todd's hair growth and Carol revealing she is about seven months pregnant.

I cannot think of any show that has jumped time in the middle of an episode like this, but this series always manages to do unique things. It is part of what makes it so special.

I think this time jump is perfect at this point in the series. It is a quick and easy way to age the babies while keeping the audience entertained.

Todd, I've decided. I want to have a baby, and I want to have it with you.

Erica

It also makes Erica's change in her decision more believable.

She had months to think about what Todd asked and to reflect on it, which gave her the chance to make a decision without feeling a lot of pressure.

Overall, I think "Release the Hounds" is one of the best episodes of the season.

It was not as action-packed or extravagant as some of the others, but it was memorable nonetheless. It was full of funny moments and ended with a promise for exciting things to come.

This baby is not going to wait. You've got two months, tops.

Carol

Just when this show feels like it could be getting stale, they find ways to renew my love for it. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens between Erica and Todd and finding out who found the green balloon in the bush.

Did you enjoy "Release the Hounds" as much as I did? Are you worried about the time jump or excited for Todd to be a father?
