Before Epifanio died, he told Camila, "Don't let our daughter become like you."

That ship has clearly sailed as Isabela made it clear on Queen of the South Season 3 Episode 2 that she wanted Teresa's blood just as much as her mother did.

But they didn't get it, at least for now.

Watching Teresa run from Camila's hit squad had me holding my breath, which is saying something because realistically I know that if Teresa gets killed the show is over, but that didn't matter.

James and Teresa make a formidable team, even when she doesn't trust him.

James: I'm going to need my gun.
Teresa: There's no shooting our way out of this.
James: Look, you and I both know our chances of surviving are better with a gun in my hand.
[Teresa gives him a gun]
James: There's only one round.
Teresa: Then you better aim good.

James' aim has never been an issue. The sole time we've seen him miss a target was when he was shooting at Teresa, and I believed him when he told Guero he missed her on purpose.

Speaking of Guero, he's still missing in action. I'm betting he's alive and the only question behind his reappearance is whether it will be helpful or harmful to Teresa.

No one could say that James didn't pop up at just the right time, which made me nervous.

The moment we saw the flashback of James as Trevor, I worried that he was there to murder that entire family.

Devon Finch, much like Camila, believes you have to be brutal to remain in power. Did James really decide he'd had enough of that philosophy of doing business?

What bothered me was that we never saw James actually leave that home with the family alive. The flashback ended with the father gasping for air on the floor and the little girl screaming.

We just had to take James' word for it that he walked away and let them live. It's a nice story, and I hope that it's true, but I'm not convinced.

But I have to admit that what James said was correct. He had mostly looked out for Teresa, even when he didn't have to do so.

However, James was always above Teresa in the chain of command. Is he now willing to take orders from her?

The best part of James and Teresa's reunion was that they had the most entertaining Queen of the South quote of the night:

James: I guess it could be worse.
Teresa: We're headed to prison.
James: In Malta. They serve french bread. They teach yoga.
Teresa: Are you kidding?
James: No, I saw it on CNN. Top ten places to do time, Malta was number four.
Teresa: What was number one?
James: Sweden. Prisons are like IKEA stores.

I've been stuck wandering around an IKEA so long that it's felt like a prison, but that's a story for another time.

When Rocco de la Pena saved Teresa and only asked for an additional two percent on his fee, I thought he was extremely reasonable. Thankfully, so did Teresa.

Hopefully, these two have a long and profitable relationship going forward.

Camila: You should have known there's no place on earth that you are safe from me. When my men are through with you, you're going to regret the day you were born.
Teresa: I only regret not killing you along with Epifanio.

Teresa could have killed the entire Vargas family that day, but she chose not to because that's not who she is, and that works both for and against her.

And I say she could have killed the entire family because I include Isabela. She may not have the power yet, but it's clear she will hunt Teresa to the ends of the earth just like her mother.

But Camila has bigger issues than Teresa, and I don't know that she realizes how immediate they are.

Cortez has no loyalty to Camila. Of course, he had no real loyalty to Epifanio either. The Vargases are simply a means to an end for Cortez. He latches onto power until he can take it away.

Not that I thought Boaz had any love for Camila, but he was willing to play along with the distribution of power as long as his place at the head of the cartel was respected. Knowing that Camila went to his family to try and oust him will change everything.

Boaz and Cortez selling heroin behind Camila's back will give them even more wealth and power which will aid them in their attempts to take her down.

Camila doesn't trust Cortez, but it seems as though she puts a little too much power in his hands. If she doesn't diversify her protection, that's going to come back to bite her.

The most chilling scenes of the episode belonged to Pote. If we hadn't seen that flashforward at the start of Queen of the South Season 2, I would have thought Pote was a dead man.

Pote is tough as nails and completely loyal to Teresa. He'll die for her even if she doesn't completely understand how she earned his loyalty.

Teresa: They tortured him like an animal but he wouldn't give me up.
James: He knows you'd do the same.
Teresa: I'm not that strong.
James: Yeah you are. Men like Pote follow strength. You're as strong as they come. You proved that last night.

Just the fact that Teresa insisted on going back to save Pote says a lot about her character. I can't imagine Camila doing that, especially if it meant putting her own life on the line.

The worst moment was seeing Pote in tears. How bad does the pain have to be to make a man that strong cry?

I only hope that once he's recovered the broken hand doesn't interfere with his aim.
