Midnight, Texas Season 2 Episode 2 Review: The Monster of the Week is Patriarchy

Midnight, Texas should have stayed a summer show.
Even with the addition of Nestor Carbonelle (who I love) as Kai, Midnight, Texas Season 2 Episode 2 couldn't pull itself out of the well of the ridiculous.
And it's not the fun kind of ridiculous, either.
So what happened to make it so bad?
Let's start with Fiji and Bobo.
The unknown demonic forces swirling around in Midnight were probably as sick of Fiji and Bobo's neverending lovefest as the rest of us.
Who didn't cheer when Fiji pushed Bobo away and told him they could no longer have sex because of the strange occurrences happening every time they got in the mood (which was ALL the time, btw?)

Something is definitely jealous of Fiji's newfound love.
Bobo is a nice guy and all, but he has to be the stupidest man on the planet to even think that a malfunctioning fan was the reason Fiji's plants were all dead.
First, Fiji is a witch and a green thumb. Second, it's Midnight, so when plants start dying and knives start flying at you through the air for no reason, it should be easy to figure out it's probably not a coincidence.
It could be that Bobo did realize something was out of whack but didn't want to admit it. After witnessing the harrowing events of Midnight, Texas Season 1, he doesn't want to have to experience anything like that ever again.
Bobo needs to cut his losses and get out of Midnight while he can. Sex with a witch might be the best sex he's ever had, but it's not worth the nightmare headache about to come Midnight's way.
It's hard to believe that NONE of the MIdnighters were even the slightest bit alarmed at how Kai was "healing" his patients.
They knew that the hotel was going to be an issue, so their easy acceptance of Kai and his abilities is confounding.
When it was revealed Kai had the ability to remove the supernatural out of people, it barely phased them.
The only thing Joe was curious about was whether Manfred was considering having Kai "cure" him.
Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it), Manfred decided that his spirit and demon eating abilities were so much a part of him now, he couldn't imagine living life without them.
At least he decided to follow up on Olivia's suspicions to see what was up about that painting.
It was surprising to learn that it belonged to Patience and had been in her family for years.
It made me start to think that maybe she was the evil one of the pair, sort of like that one Supernatural episode where it turned out the wife was secretly summoning death to help her husband "heal" others, but that suspicion wasn't confirmed -- at least not yet.
It was strange that Patience wasn't freaked out about the ghosts in the hotel or even at Manfred's abilities to talk and take in ghosts. She acted like it was something she'd seen a thousand times before.
That in itself, should have sent the alarm bells ringing, but Manfred was still getting over Creek leaving him, so maybe his head was muffled.
Still, he found his way into Kai's study and found the head in the cage behind the painting.
I don't know what the weird vision he saw was about before he was knocked out, but at least he knows something isn't right at the healing spa because normal people just don't keep caged heads hiding behind paintings.
But I would imagine that when Kai or Patience find him lying on the floor and the painting's secret door open, he's going to have hell to pay.
Lem found himself on the receiving side of Olivia's wrath when he tried to protect his wife from a couple of guys who were hitting on her at the bar.
I'm not a fan of all the friction happening between Midnight's power couple. There's no reason they just can't get along without all the associated drama that was presented.
I mean, seriously, a stripper vampire being introduced as a source of tension between the two was not what I wanted to see in their storyline, but I guess there had to be some way to reveal Kai's ability to purge the supernatural out of people, and lady vamp was it.
I just wish I didn't have to waste part of my life watching the tired trope about a stripper wanting to change her life but never being given a fair shake. Making the stripper a vampire doesn't make it unique, people.
Midnight, Texas lost its charm this hour. Hopefully, it'll return on Midnight, Texas Season 2 Episode 3. Hopefully.
