Siren Season 2 Episode 2 Review: The Wolf at the Door

Mermaids are everywhere on Siren Season 2 Episode 2, and we loved every second of it!

Romance is brewing, sirens are laughing, and if this episode was an indication of anything, it's that there are bumpy seas ahead! No pun intended.

Without further ado, let's "dive" in! And don't forget that you can watch Siren online right here at TV Fanatic!

The Dilemma - Siren Season 2 Episode 2

If Ben and Maddie thought one mermaid was hard to handle, they've definitely got it difficult now. These mermaids are hard to keep hidden and hard to keep under control.

They're literally all fishes out of the water and have no idea how to survive on land. Luckily, Ryn is there to help them and has shown a special interest in assisting Donna's daughter.

Your mother, my sister. Gone. I help you now. You are strong like mother.

Ryn

In a show called Siren, it's nice to see them being focused on rather than just being a side plot. The mermaids are a significant part of the story, and they really steer the entire plot along.

And speaking of steering, it's impossible not to mention just how comical it was when Ben was teaching Ryn to drive.

Ryn: I'm a good driver.
Ben: Yeah.
Ryn: I'm a good driver.
Ben: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Look, look!

Siren has so many opportunities for comedy, and it's an opportunity that it needs to remember to take. Serious plot lines are good, but you always need something to lighten the mood.

Ben's Addiction - Siren Season 2 Episode 2

Without some form of comic relief, a show can easily get bland and boring. Humor can help keep even the most humdrum shows feel light and fresh.

This scene also really showcased the connection between Ryn and Ben. Although many fans have been on the ship for a while, their scenes have always seemed just average. They weren't bad together, but it also felt like there was a spark missing.

That spark turned into a roaring fire in this episode in the most innocent of moments. The joy on Ben's face when he was around Ryn and the amount of patience he had with her made it impossible not to love them in that instance.

What if the way I feel about you has nothing to do with the song?

Ben

Ben is also still recovering from Ryn's Siren song as he and both Ryn and Maddie are under the impression that it caused his feelings for her.

But Ben seemed smitten with Ryn far before she sang to him, and it's quite evident that his affection for her was already there beforehand.

Although Maddie told Ben that she's proud of him for seeking help about it, a part of her must know that Ben's feelings for Ryn are most likely real.

But Ben wasn't the only one sharing moments with the mermaid, in fact, Maddie herself had a particularly intimate scene with Ryn in the van.

A Peaceful Moment - Siren Season 2 Episode 2

Their moment of pure connection was simple, yet beautiful in its own way. The chemistry between these two women is through the roof, and we can't wait for the show to dive into it fully.

If they keep going in the direction they are now, we may have a beautiful new canon ship on the horizon.

Or ships depending on how the Ben/Maddie/Ryn situation plays out. Maybe it's a love circle on the horizon instead. And yup, those are way better than triangles, and we are 100% here for it.

Maddie and Ryn - Siren Season 2 Episode 2

But of course, things weren't all light and breezy. Xander was just starting to become accepting of the mermaids, but it seems like he's starting to lose it a little bit.

And honestly, we can't blame him.

I'm not the risk! They're the risk!

Xander

When the water is no longer safe because there's a clan of sirens swimming around and ready to bite, it's hard to really fault Xander for being on edge.

Unlike Ben and Maddie, Xander doesn't have much of a personal relationship with Ryn, so when it comes to the mermaids, he sees them more as foes than friends.

After what happened to his dad, it's hard for him not to carry some resentment.

However, he's judging an entire species based on the actions of a few, and while grief can make all of us think irrationally, Xander is going to have to pull it together soon.

It's also possible that Xander wants to see the mermaids as bad people. He did, after all, kill Donna, and it's obvious that Xander has a very guilty conscience.

He might have it in his mind that if all mermaids are evil, the thing he did may not be that bad.

Of course, it's not true, but it could very well be something that helps Xander sleep at night.

Mermaid Beauty Contest - Siren

Overall Siren Season 2 Episode 2 felt like a much stronger episode than the premiere.

While Siren Season 2 Episode 1 revealed the new plot, the second episode did a good job at building onto it.

Relationships are coming full circle, the comedy is finally coming out, and the mermaids could be in more danger than ever.

The episode had just the right amount of everything, and we can't wait to see what comes next!
