God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 14 Review: The Trouble With the Curve

at .

The God Account was working double duty on God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 14.

Miles' friend request Derrick, a pitcher gunning for the minors, reconnected him with a high school friend whom he had a falling out with.

It wasn't a coincidence that shortly after running into Cal he was sent over Derrick's name.

The God Account works in mysterious ways, but I believe we'll soon be finding out the method to the madness.

While every friend request teaches us a valuable lesson, I've found that requests that have a personal connection to Miles are often the strongest.

This lesson was about acceptance and more importantly, accepting decisions and moving forward.

Miles and Cal had some history between them, but it's Miles' determination that eventually got through to Cal and steered Derrick in the right direction.

I love how Miles always goes to bat for his friend suggestions, no pun intended.

If Miles hadn't interjected on multiple occasions, Cal would have allowed Derrick to repeat the same mistakes, and eventual failures, he did.

Miles: It was always a competition between us.
Cara: So I take it you weren't best friends in high school?
Miles: Actually, we were.

There's really no need to repeat history when it's avoidable.

Cal never learned his lesson, but thankfully, Miles was the voice of reason both times.

It takes a lot of courage to be the one to say what others don't want to hear.

Cal was in denial about looking out for Derrick; he was selfishly only looking out for himself and interested in getting a second chance at the majors.

At this point, there isn't a single friend suggestion that Miles hasn't figured out how to help. His track record is amazing, and I'm secretly hoping the God Account sends him my name!

But sometimes, the voice of reason needs a little push too. Cara has been with Miles every step of the way so it wasn't surprising that she urged him to re-submit his podcast to FreeVerse.

Personally, they'd be foolish not to take it and give it the audience it deserves.

God Friended Me was only on hiatus for a few short weeks but man, I missed Miles' inspiring and relatable monologues.

I find that no matter what I'm going through, his words always speak to me in some way.

Miles musings about feeling inadequate and like he isn't where he should be at this point in his life is something we've all felt at some point in time.

Andrew: If you study the universe, I mean, really look at it, it's hard not to be humbled by the scope and beauty of its design. Science can explain the how, but I started asking the bigger question of why, and the answer I found was both simple and profound.
Arthur: God.
Andrew: Yeah.

Though Miles may feel like he isn't making the money moves his friends are, the work he's doing is life-changing.

Sometimes, touching a few people in a powerful way is better than reaching the masses or having your message fall on deaf ears.

Although, eventually, I believe his podcast will get the recognition it deserves.

Meanwhile, this "side hustle" is bringing so much joy into his life.

Water Under the Bridge - God Friended Me

He not only re-connected with Cal and found a way to air out grievances, he even got to catch a ball at Yankee Stadium.

Is there anything better than seeing Miles' face light up on Sunday night? He looked like a kid at Christmas!

If you thought that all the feel-good moments caused me to forget about the God Account and Simon Hayes, well, you're sorely mistaken.

Rakesh hit a bit of a snag with his new team when they staged a coup against him, however, he was able to convince them that he was the right man for the job.

I probably shouldn't have been as happy as I was to see Rakesh smoke out Tom in the code-off.

That's what he gets for calling Rakesh "just a customer service rep."

Arthur: It takes a certain skill to order the perfect takeout.
Ali: Mmm ... like a phone?

Though, I'm really impressed with how Rakesh handled the situation and even introduced Tom to the higher-ups in order to prove to him that he's an integral part of a team.

If only all bosses were as encouraging and supportive as Rakesh.

But that wasn't even Rakesh's biggest moment.

You Used to Play? - God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 14

Nope, all his hard work paid off when Rakesh scored a face-to-face meeting with Simon Hayes.

Are we finally going to meet the brilliant mind behind the God Account? Will he have the answers Miles has been looking for? Or does Simon Hayes have absolutely no idea about the account's existence?

And most importantly, how will Hayes' addition change the dynamic of the God Account?

I'm a bit concerned with what's happening at Harlem Episcopal.

It was big of Arthur to accept Rev. Andrew Carver's suggestions and venture into the digital age, however, he had every right to be skeptical of the diocese's decision to send Carver over in the first place.

I had a friend once who was in the exact same position you're in and he thought I didn't have his back, but I did. I wanted to see him go to the majors more than anyone else. And I knew that if I told him the truth, it would cost us our friendship.

Miles

The diocese didn't just suggest Carver because they think Arthur needs a hand, they want to push him out.

I have a hunch that Miles' podcast is going to come in handy when he has to vouch for his father.

Carver's interest in social media and luring new parishioners using the internet means he'd be open to utilizing a podcast to draw some attention.

And it definitely seemed like Carver wasn't comfortable with being a replacement for such an esteemed Reverand.

No one puts Arthur in the corner!

I couldn't help but chuckle at how Carver's beliefs that science and religion go hand-in-hand were a mix of Miles and Arthur's ideologies.

Yankee Stadium - God Friended Me Season 1 Episode 14

Miles may be an atheist, but there's something almost spiritual in the work he's doing with his podcast and the God Account.

I'm interested to see what happens when Miles and Carver meet.

It was also nice to hear that Arthur has been embracing Miles' podcast a bit more. He's still a little hesitant to admit that he listens, but he's coming around and that's all that matters.

And then there's Cara and Miles.

They have to get together before God Friended Me Season 1 is wrapped, right?

The attraction between them is there, the chemistry is there, the friendship is there, can they just go for it already?

God Friended Me has a bit of magic that no other show has been able to tap into.

If you're missing out on that magic, you can watch God Friended Me online for plenty of feel-good moments.

You may even learn a thing or two about yourself in the process.
