NCIS: New Orleans Season 5 Episode 15 Review: Crab Mentality

at .

Finally, the storyline involving Hannah's overseas ops began to get rolling.

It actually even intertwined with the case of the week on NCIS: New Orleans Season 5 Episode 15.

How's that for synchronicity?

Multiple Murders - NCIS: New Orleans

I thought the storyline featuring Hannah's old CIA partner Liam on NCIS: New Orleans Season 5 Episode 14 seemed to just peter out, a real Peggy Lee moment.

There had to be more. And sure nuff there was in this episode.

Poor Hannah. That one mission in Yemen has come back to haunt her big time.

First, she sent away husband Ryan and daughter Naomi to keep them safe.

Then Liam tells her that Victor Zelko, the terrorist they had been pursuing, and his family all had been killed during a secret American raid in which she had participated.

Now that sleazy Norman Wong tried to blackmail her with photos, then video, of the Zelko raid, in an attempt to slow down Hannah and the rest of the NCIS team.

Pride hates it when people with airs try to mess with his people and his city. This was another example of that.

Before looking closer at the case of the week, time out for a pet peeve. The innocent businesswoman under fire, Aramita Jax, was played by Liza Lapira. She also played Agent Lee for the better part of three seasons on NCIS.

Trouble Pit - NCIS: New Orleans Season 5 Episode 15

Characters, either regular or recurring, tend to get slid back and forth among the series in the NCIS franchise. So I think actors should only be able to play one character within the franchise. It's a little less confusing that way.

Anyway, Aramita, who was the only member of her family to survive a tsunami, had developed an artificial seawall and come to New Orleans to test it.

Her concept resonated with longtime residents such as Pride and LaSalle, who remembered the damage done by Hurricane Katrina.

The problem was that her project seemed jinxed, with workers disappearing and equipment sabotaged. No wonder she and her few remaining employees (the two mishandling the shotguns) were more than a little defensive.

Then, thanks to an anonymous tip, Aramita was taken in for questioning after a pit full of dead bodies was found on her site. Those couldn't have been planted there, could they?

No wonder Pride cajoles NOPD into turning over Aramita to him. The whole setup smelled. Dreamers trying to make people's lives better generally don't go around shooting themselves in the foot.

The episode was full of fun little moments, such as Gregorio instructing the inept guards how to hold their shotguns and LaSalle picking off a fleeing murderer with his car.

Sarcastic Wisdom - NCIS: New Orleans Season 5 Episode 15

It was also a touching moment with Sebastian spent a few quiet moments in the morgue with Loretta, a happening that's been all too rare now that he's a full-time field agent.

What's always fun is when Sebastian and Patton work together on some difficult-to-accomplish feat of hacking. I'd love to see Patton every episode, rather than having it fall back on Sebastian about a third of the time.

It was amusing to see how quickly Special Agent in Charge Pride, who had been promoted in part to keep him out of extralegal activities, approved the pretend draining of funds from Wong. Did anyone really expect him to color inside the lines?

This would have been a simple case to close if Wong hadn't been blackmailing Hannah over the Zelko raid. It was simple enough to determine who benefitted from Aramita's troubles. But Wong was a slick operator who kept the NCIS team off-balance by sidelining Hannah and threatening to use his many contacts.

Walk on the Dark Side - NCIS: New Orleans Season 5 Episode 15

For such a bright guy, how did he fall for the oldest trick in the book -- Pride wearing a wire? And Pride promising not to have NCIS arrest him but making no such promise for other law-enforcement agencies. I guess sheer arrogance did Wong in.

After Pride revealed that Zelko was actually still alive, it was easy to predict that this storyline will carry over into NCIS: New Orleans Season 5 Episode 16. This terrorist on the loose certainly isn't going to make it easy for Hannah to reunite long-term with her family.

It may have taken a while to delve into Hannah's back story, while Pride recovered from his wounds, physical and psychological. But we're finding out much more about Hannah in recent weeks. Her overseas adventures should provide fodder for future seasons as well.
