Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 5 Review: Don't Speak

at .  Updated at .

Well, that will go down as one of the twistiest episodes of television in quite some time.

Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 5 brought us new layers to the mystery and set us on a different path as we approach the second half of Roswell, New Mexico Season 1

Answers, Please - Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 5

It seemed too easy to rule Michael as the killer, especially when it seemed like a throwaway moment. Isobel is so far gone that she doesn't even remember doing the deed.

Isobel's murderous tendencies were a real surprise. On the surface, she's a happy-go-lucky, bubbly person who strives to be her best self.

Behind closed doors, however, she's a mess. She forgets things, acts erratically, and it's no wonder Noah decided enough was enough.

It was natural for him to think Isobel was getting close to someone else. When your significant other disappears and shows up without so much as an apology, it's a bit of a slap in the face.

It was about time someone commented on the nail polish remover. Isobel was sloppy leaving all of the bottles around the house.

Now that we know Isobel killed the three girls, the bigger questions now surround her motives. Are we to assume she lashed out? That wouldn't be a great reveal.

My most prominent theory now is that the three girls learned the truth about the aliens in town and were gearing up to tell all.

That would work storytelling-wise, but there has to be more. Knowing who the killer is means that we can start piecing this mystery together.

Given that Isobel is done keeping up appearances and lying to everyone, it remains to be seen whether she will take accountability for her actions.

It's going to kill her knowing that Michael lied about doing the deed to help her sleep at night. Michael and Max likely knew they had to find a way to keep the identity of the killer on the down-low and that was the best foot forward.

Now that Liz knows the truth, that's going to change everything. Max commented on the heart making you do crazy things, and confirming the truth to Liz was as crazy as it gets.

Liz Finds a Clue - Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 3

Liz has proven to be tenacious in her quest to find out the truth, and there's no telling what she's going to do to get her own back on her sister's killer.

If Max tells Liz Isobel was not of sound mind during the murder, I'm afraid Liz is going to assume the trio of aliens are the same and go straight to Kyle with her findings.

I enjoyed Liz going off on her own to get her answers. Grant was a fun character because we were under the impression he was spewing theories because he was an alien fanatic.

Having him spewing them to cover the fact that there were aliens in town was a satisfying twist. I was blindsided by gunshots ringing out in the building because I figured all of Liz and Grant's scenes were going to be heavy on the exposition and light on the action.

I'm happy I was wrong. The chain of events that unfolded had me glued to the screen. Wyatt knew Liz was in the building and that Grant was showing her the footage and managed to appear in a matter of seconds.

Is this all part of the government conspiracy, or is there something more at play here? By the looks of it, everyone in Roswell, New Mexico is being monitored.

Getting Close - Tall - Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 3

If that is the case, then there's a chance more people know about the alien trifecta than we're being led to believe.

It was nice that Max was on hand to save Liz's life, but their relationship feels tainted now. Part of the beauty of the original series was that we were supposed to root for Liz and Max.

This reboot is throwing hurdle after hurdle in their way. That's not a bad thing, but the trailers (and even the first episodes) teased an epic love story.

Now that Liz knows Max was covering up her sister's death, there's not going to be much of an attraction there. I don't see how we're supposed to believe that Liz will get close to someone in a position of power in the town who lied to her.

There will be some more curveballs thrown into the mystery, but I'll be super pissed if we're being led to believe Isobel is the killer and it turns out someone else did the deed.

We already thought it was Michael, and now we're on to Isobel.

Alex's Past - Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 5

I loved the team-up of Alex and Kyle on "Don't Speak." There's a lot about these characters we don't know, so it was perfect that we got to see these two speak about the past and uncover some answers along the way.

Alex had a terrible childhood. There's no getting away from that. We've already witnessed Jesse being overbearing and essentially ordering his son around.

Kyle's father leaving the cabin to Alex presents us with a lot to think about. Alex thought it was a pity thing, so he had somewhere to go when the going got tough with his father.

But the more likely scenario here is that Kyle's father wanted Alex to look after everything in the property -- even supernatural things he's hiding in the walls.

Maybe he wanted Alex to investigate without his father, or he wanted everything be kept as it is. We don't know for sure, but we do know that there was no love lost between Mr. Valenti and Jesse.

Kyle on a Mission - Roswell, New Mexico Season 1 Episode 5

Jesse's investigation has been on the periphery of late, but he's actively trying to scope out the supernatural with the aim of saving the town.

For Kyle's sake, I'm glad he learned the truth about Rosa. Thinking his father was having an affair with a teenager was destroying him, especially because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death.

Knowing that Rosa was his half-sister changes everything for him, and there's no telling how far he will go to unmask her killer.

Liz is not going to be able to cope with the news that she and Rosa have different fathers. She's going to have a lot of questions, and we don't even know whether Arturo knows her mother was having an affair.

"Don't Speak" was a perfect installment of CW drama. There was action, twists, and some excellent character development.

What did you think of all the reveals?
