The series threw caution to the wind, and the issues that had slowly been building throughout the entirety of Siren Season 2 ended up creating one giant explosion.

Devastating Effects - Tall - Siren Season 2 Episode 8

Nicole didn't waste any time bringing Ryn to the military facility.

It is still hard to truly understand Nicole's motives, but Siren Season 2 Episode 8 gave the audience a better idea of her reasoning while still causing viewers to wonder how far Nicole would or wouldn't go for this operation.

The way you grow new tissue, maybe it can help people like them.

Nicole

What appeared to be just an act to get Ryn to cooperate on Siren Season 2 Episode 7, turned out to be a real desire to let Ryn participate in the experiment on her own terms.

Nicole was awfully protective of Ryn and even questioned what the military was planning on doing with her.

Seeing as she didn't receive an answer, it does make it appear as though her superiors are worried she's gotten too sympathetic with the mermaids.

Now that Xander has figured out who Nicole is and confronted her about it, their relationship is done. But even if it wasn't real, it did seem like there were feelings on both ends.

Is Nicole's betrayal something they could ever be able to move past?

Ben's plan to take out both the sonic cannon and the drillship sounded too good to be true. There was no way they could pull it off without something going wrong.

We don't want this big fight. But we must, so we can go back home.

Ryn

And that's not a reflection on the group's abilities, but more of how television and mid-season finales work.

As it usually does at first, the plan started smoothly.

The night before they were going to put their plan into action, Ryn came over to be with Maddie and Ben for what could be the last time.

The scene between the three of them was so full of emotion you could almost feel the love radiating off of them.

Ben and Maddie were soft and gentle with Ryn and taught her that making love on land is different from the way mermaids reproduce in the water.

It was a moment that both the characters and the audience needed to feel just how serious and dangerous their plan was.

Taking a Risk - Siren Season 2 Episode 8

It could have been the last time Ben, Maddie, and Ryn were together and the viewers needed to understand how much emotion was involved in this relationship to experience the same fear that they were.

Ryn: Ryn always with you.
Maddie: We love you.

The scene between Helen and Sarge was once again absolutely adorable. They have the purest and most precious relationship on the entire show.

Although we don't know exactly why Helen and Sarge were drawn to each other, Sarge quickly became very protective and smitten with her.

Sarge may not be the best at communicating, but the amount he cares for Helen is always abundantly clear in his actions. The way he tried to guard her door all night for fear of impending danger had our shipper hearts beating like crazy.

You don't have to stand there. If you're gonna be my night watchman, at least have a seat.

Helen

We were thankful that Helen and Sarge were able to have that beautiful instant together, especially considering what happens next.

It's not clear whether Sarge was just badly injured or killed in the water, but if he is alive, there's no doubt that Ryn will do whatever she can to save him.

Sarge aside, the most frustrating part about the finale is that everything would've gone almost perfectly if it wasn't for Katrina and Cami plotting to kill Xander.

Ryn and Xander - Siren Season 2 Episode 8

Yes, Xander killed Donna, and it was wrong. But Levi killed Xander's dad, and he was still able to look past it and put himself at risk to help the mermaids find a way back home.

Not to sound unsympathetic, but can they just put it behind them and move on?

Setting the boat on fire was the last thing anyone could've seen coming, and with that explosion, the audience is left unsure if Calvin and Xander are alive or dead.

Xander and Calvin - Siren Season 2 Episode 8

Xander may not have been in our good graces for a good portion of Siren Season 2, but he was able to finally turn it around and become a character we're invested in now.

Hey, good luck down there. Do your thing.

Xander

Please, Siren, tell us that Calvin and Xander are still alive.

But that wasn't the only explosion.

Time limits make everything more stressful, and Ben and Maddie's swim to the sonic cannon with a five-minute countdown was a nerve-wracking experience.

Thankfully, they ended up just fine and were able to watch Ted Pownall's expression when the drillship was destroyed right in front of his eyes.

Everything that has ever happened in the show was worth it just for this moment.

The look that Ben shared with his father was epic. Not to sound extreme, but it was the best part of the finale.

The audience could tell from his expression alone that Ted knew who was responsible and it couldn't have been more satisfying.

Sorry, but that's what you get for messing with Ben Pownall. Don't underestimate your son again, Ted.

So what's next?

With Sarge injured, the drillship destroyed, and Calvin and Xander's fate unknown, there are so many questions that we need answers to when Siren comes back.
