The Blacklist Season 6 Episode 14 Review: The Osterman Umbrella Company

at .  Updated at .

And who here thought they were going to have a happy Friday?

It started out that way when Red teamed up with Robert Vesco for a thrilling treasure hunt on The Blacklist Season 6 Episode 13, but by the time The Blacklist Season 6 Episode 14 rolled around, things had taken a dark turn.

Goodbye Samar - The Blacklist Season 6 Episode 14

It's hard to even focus on the thrill of the hunt and all it entailed from Red's fabulous party (where was our invite?) to Liz's transformation back to the Liz of the dancing by the pool days because what happened to Samar and Aram sucked all life out of that balloon.

Samar Navabi has been one of the most badass females on television. She's smart, independent, and wickedly lethal.

She came to the Task Force on The Blacklist Season 2 via Red after the brutal death of Agent Meera Malik on The Blacklist Season 1.

Not much was ever revealed about her relationship with Red, but we know now that it ran deep.

He considered her a friend and valued her as much for her tenacity as for her loyalty. And as we all know, Red values loyalty above all else.

This is why it was so hard for him to understand why her own agency would put out a hit on her, and why he had to take care of her when she asked for his help.

Sad Aram - The Blacklist Season 6 Episode 14

Red was furious with Levi not only for betraying Samar and putting her life in danger but for the emotional damage it was going to cause Aram.

He knew how the story was going to turn out if Samar survived the assassins. He knew Samar would seek his help.

And he knew that Aram wasn't going to be part of her plans.

I'm not sure I believed Red when he told Aram he tried to convince Samar otherwise. He said it to try to soften the blow not just to Aram but to himself as well.

Red knew Aram was going to be gutted when he learned Samar had left without him. It devastated him because he genuinely cares about Aram and knew he didn't deserve this outcome.

What Red didn't expect was Aram's rage. Punching Red took guts but in Aram's mind who the hell cares anymore.

It was a sad and shocking thing to witness from a guy who had previously held Red in such high regard.

What Aram forgot at that moment (and maybe he will remember once he calms down) was that he brought this upon himself.

He did realize earlier that he made a mistake telling Levi about Samar's condition, but he only did it to protect her all the while forgetting (which she kindly reminded him) that she's perfectly capable of taking care of herself.

But this is where it becomes clear that Samar is out of Aram's league and that the decision she made was the right one.

Upset Red - The Blacklist Season 6 Episode 14

He's such a good guy, but he's too naive and trusting for his own good. He doesn't understand that optimism can't solve all the problems of the world. Not in their world, anyway.

It never occurred to him that her telling the Mossad she was pregnant was odd and that maybe there was another reason why she shared that information with them and not him.

If she was really pregnant, she wouldn't have kept it a secret from him to have to find out from a former lover of hers.

But Aram is so hopelessly in love, he can't see the forest for the trees.

Finding Help

It's not completely his fault, though. If he knew half the truth of what Samar was about, he might have rethought his devotion to her.

There's so much he doesn't know, and so much she would never have revealed.

And while it was sweet to watch how determined he was to stay by Samar's side, to try to move mountains for her, to love her for the rest of his life (because she is his life), it was clear that this was a love story that was too good to be true.

Samar tried her hardest to let him down easy, but he just wasn't listening and was completely oblivious to every clue she was throwing his way.

Even I knew when they parted in the woods that it was the end of their relationship.

It's not that Samar didn't love him. She did, but she also knew that he would be a danger to them both. She left because she loved him, but also to protect him.

Had she not had the accident that caused her condition, could they have had a happy ending?

Liz Knew - The Blacklist Season 6 Episode 14

It's debatable after watching everything that transpired.

His undying devotion and attention to her every need was already starting to annoy her, and it would have eventually driven a wedge between them.

Independent women don't want a partner who suffocates them.

He might have convinced himself that he could live a life without kids, but he wouldn't have given up on the idea no matter how many times she said no.

Eventually, he would have resented her.

Sometimes, things just aren't meant to be.

Glen in the Game - The Blacklist Season 6 Episode 14

Aram claimed that he would never forgive Red for taking away the love of his life, but mostly he's never going to forgive himself just as Red told Levi before he killed him.

It's understandable that Aram would take his anger out on Red. Someone has to suffer for his loss.

But Aram is stepping on a land mine.

As much as I think The Blacklist writers took a brilliant route by setting up this conflict between Red and Aram, it won't be fun watching them battle.

Who do you root for?

Seeking Comfort - The Blacklist Season 6 Episode 14

At least we were able to laugh a bit before this complete emotional upheaval took place.

Red's adventure with his old mentor to find the hidden treasure was incredible.

Surviving his closest brush with death ever was a cause for celebration which is why he threw the party of the century. Everyone was there, including Vontae!

Even better was seeing the old gang take part in the quest.

The old Red we love and know is back! Or at least he was before the Aram and Samar disaster.

Still, even Liz was a delight. If she's going back to the time when she was Red's partner in crime, I'm all in -- that Liz was a lot of fun!

Gold! - The Blacklist Season 6 Episode 14

And it does seem she's heading back down that path. Who didn't laugh with her after Red's big gold presentation turned out to be a big fail?!

She was hilarious and taking Red and Dembe's picture for posterity was epic!

I suppose that now that Red has a new enemy within, it would make sense for Liz to become Red's ally once again.

I'm still going to be cautious towards her, but there's a lot of hope peeking out.

Over to you The Blacklist Fanatics!
