Scream: Resurrection Review - Night Two Brings More Kills, Fewer Thrills

at .

The kills continued on Scream Season 3 Episode 3 and Scream Season 3 Episode 4, and it's becoming clear that the killer could legitimately be any of the characters.

I had a little too many theories about the man/woman behind the mask in my premiere review, and most of them were squashed during night two of this VH1 binge.

The creative forces behind the show have managed to craft an intriguing mystery that not only has me on the edge of my seat but also over analyzing just about everything that's playing out before my very eyes.

Amir is Annoyed - Scream

Amir's death surprised me the most, mostly because he seemed like a likely candidate to be in cahoots with the killer.

Dressing as Deion for Halloween bordered on obsession, and him killing Beth would have been the perfect reveal for the first killer.

Amir was plain stupid to rest his back against the elevator door after his scuffle with Ghost Face, and he deserved to die for that stupidity alone.

Amir: Hey.
Beth: It's Halloween. The one day a year you get to be anyone you want to be, and you chose to dress up as some meathead jock?
Amir: Of course not. Most jocks treat me like crap, but not Deion.
Beth: In my personal experience. The only person people ever look out for is themselves.
Amir: That's sad.
Beth: Not as sad as you going full-on stalker on Deion.
Amir: I'm not a stalker.
Beth: That's exactly what a stalker would say.

The issue with the character of Amir is that C.J. Wallace did not seem comfortable in the role.

The Scream Resurrection Gang

There was a lack of chemistry between him and the other actors he shared the screen with, and it was glaringly obvious.

It's difficult to root for a character when there's such a disconnect. Tuesday's two episodes definitely wanted us to think Amir had something to do with what was going on, and I was fooled.

He disappeared at all the right times to put him high up on the list of suspects -- right before his death scene -- and I'm genuinely unsure who the killer could be now.

Amir: Did you hear about Shane?
Beth: What about him?
Liv just told me. He's dead. We're guessing Ghost Face got him.
Beth: Well, then I guess Mr. Fade got faded.

Liv's father confirming she has deeply rooted mental issues was no surprise.

Jessica Sula on Scream Resurrection

Liv has been the sketchiest character since her debut on Scream Season 3 Episode 1, so this increased emphasis on her mental state is another red herring.

It's clear she cares a lot for Deion or she wouldn't have turned to her father for assistance in keeping Deion doing something he'd regret with the gun. It was a betrayal for sure, but the notion that it came from a place of malice is simply laughable.

Nothing good was going to come from Deion's road trip with Liv's father, and I called Deion being put in the frame for the murder the moment the killer knocked him out.

Deion: Marcus. Marcus Man, is this you?
Ghost Face: If I told you now, it would spoil the big twist. Where's the fun in that?
Deion: Look, it won't be fun when I rip that mask off your face and shove it up your ass.
Ghost Face: Look at you showing some spine. Too bad Shane didn't last night.
Deion: What you talking about?
Ghost Face: After Mr. Fade showed everyone who he really was, I pumped him full of drugs and now he's dead, like all your friends will be when I'm done.
Deion: Why the hell are you even doing this, man? I thought it was me you want.
Ghost Face: What I want is to find out who Deion Elliot really is, about what happened that Halloween night.
Deion: Yeah, me too.
Ghost Face: Then go back to the scene of the crime, the place you abandoned your brother.
Deion: And if I don't?
Ghost Face: Trick or treat, Deion. Your choice.

The biggest issue with the show is that the killer seems to be everywhere, meaning that for all of this to make sense in the end, there have got to be at least three people slaying the teens of this town.

Keke Palmer on Scream Resurrection

The revelations about the Hook Man were surprising because we were led to believe he was this villain.

In reality, he was battling PTSD and struggling with the fact that his actions paved the way for Marcus to die.

Deion needed this closure to finally move on to the next suspect and realize that Jamal is his brother now, and probably the killer.

At this stage, Jamal has got to be involved. He's the only person who hasn't been in every scenario with the focal teenagers, meaning he could be part of the whole thing.

Beth Hates Detention - Scream

Deion was clearly set up by someone to head to Beth's. There's no way in a million years that Liv left her laptop on with her car's GPS location.

That was ridiculous, and further fuels the theory that there's a bunch of people terrorizing these teenagers as opposed to just one lone wolf.

It's a shame Manny was killed off just when his character was starting to get interesting. It's easy for characters to get lost in the shuffle when there are so many in a six-part limited series.

The issue with Manny's death, however, is that we didn't actually see him perish on-screen. He was in the car, and it was burning, but it's a bitter pill to swallow that he just merely sat in his seat being cooked alive.

Manny Wants Clues - Scream

He could have booted the window out like a fellow MTV star did just this past weekend.

Long story short: Unless we see a character perishing on-screen, there's always the opportunity for them to return down the line. On a teen drama, that becomes infinitely more possible.

There was a streak of anger with Manny that had never been addressed before ... until he took his rage out on Kym's car and the losers who were annoying them.

Hitting the well-built man with the crowbar seemingly proved that Manny cared for Kym very much.

Tyga on Scream Resurrection

Those three teenagers could have overpowered Manny with ease, but they let him go because they were scared of him.

By my calculations, viewers should be scared of him.

As we head into the final night of this binge, there are still a handful of characters to die, and some killer revelations.

There was marked dip in quality during Night Two, and much of that stemmed from dumb decisions from the characters and too many conveniences in the script.

Jamal Tells His Brother How it Is - Scream

Parts of the story are being advanced by dialog that feels forced and is far too exposition-heavy.

These things should be playing out in the action as opposed to characters simply moving the plot along with their mouths.

Let's hope the final two episodes manage to return to the quality set by the premiere.
