  1. Gossip Girl Recap, Music, Pics, Quotes, Etc.

Valr: The song is "U.R.A. Fever" by The Kills.

I loved all the little bits in this episode... I loved that Blair chose not to wig out on Serena when Serena brought up Nate's cheating; great bon mots throughout - "popping Poppy", "fighting over the banana", "peeing" on Blair LOL OMG that was the best!

But to those trashing Chuck for being a horrible friend, I say: All the choices were Blair's. Choosing to spend Friday night alone spying on Serena; choosing to ask Chuck to do 'one last mission'; choosing to go with Chuck to see Georgina - she still could have walked away after she found out it would take all night. And choosing not to say "I love you" back to Nate. It's hard to defend Chuck sometimes, but not in this case.

People keep saying Chuck has to fight for Blair - but he is. He just knows that Blair has to come to the conclusion herself. Chuck fighting for Blair means he took her phone call in front of Nate, and means he agreed to help her 'out' Gabriel as a liar instead of saying "Sorry, but my so-called friend Nate says I can't play with you anymore".

Blair may have been angry at Chuck in the limo, but she was more angry that he knows her better than she knows herself. Chuck may be a bastard, but he calls a spade a spade [i.e., he says things that are unpleasant to hear - and others are unwilling to say].

  2. Gossip Girl Spoilers: Season Finale Tease

I agree Chuck and Blair may not be a conventional couple, but that's what I'm looking forward to seeing. (Even my 63-year old mother, who's only been watching GG for a month, thinks Chuck and Blair should get together! LOL And she doesn't even know their history!)

Once again Nate proved he doesn't know Blair and doesn't get her. He chose a neighborhood that she hates, and while she does need to learn to use the subway if he thinks Blair will enjoy hanging out and getting 'a slice' and chilling out at the corner pizza joint, he's done way too many drugs! Nate's going to start college and meet all these sports-loving hipster girls... Nair wouldn't last the first semester!

Chuck may be "new money", but he knows how to keep Blair happy (whether he will is another issue), and he's got the confidence and savvy to be successful. I have never once heard Nate say what he wants to do or be in life. Sure, he could also get a cushy job in a van der Bilt company - but he's never remotely expressed an interest in it, as Chuck has. Ultimately his utter lack of drive, focus, and ambition would be Nair's undoing if something else weren't.

As for Lily and Rufus, I'm praying the writers give the guy his guts back... ever since he gave Lily the list of things he loves about her, he's been a complete wuss, and he's totally losing his appeal. The way he longed for her before they were together was touching and romantic. "Whipped" Rufus is just irritating. I liked her relationship with Bart b/c they were equals - they could both give it and take it. Where's the Rufus who told Lily off in the train station and called her out for running to him only when she was on the outs with Bart?

  3. Round Table: "A Southern Gentleman Prefers Blondes"

    1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode? "If you needed to mark your territory so badly, Nathaniel, maybe you should just pee on her."

    2. Best fashion moment of the night - Chuck's basketball attire, Serena's "dress" at the co-op party, or the "OMJC" shirts at Georgina's camp? Chuck's basketball attire - only he could combine velour and an ascot and get away with it!

    3. Harder to believe: The distance between NYU and Columbia constituting a long-distance relationship, Lily and friends forking over cash in minutes in this economy, or any scene involving Vanessa? I would say Lily... but when I looked at the spreadsheet on replay, they were 'only' giving him $100-150k - which is less than many of them spend on clothes in month. So, given that's plausible, I'm giving it to Vanessa. To someone who lives a cloistered existence, it probably does seem long-distance!

    4. Should Rufus propose to Lily?
Not yet. Besides it being hugely tacky so soon after Bart's death, there is literally no rush... and if I were Rufus, I'd want to decide what to do with my life before I married Lily - Rufus needs to grow (preferably a pair) before he settles down with her and becomes a kept man. (For the record, I actually like them together - but not the way he is in the last few eps.)

    5. Should Blair move in with Nate?
No way! Though I'm not a Nair fan, who in their right minds at 18 and with their history do that BEFORE starting college?! Blair is a romantic, but she's not stupid. Her ambivalence when she showed up at the end was not just because of Chuck - it was, I like to think, because a long drive home cleared her head.

BONUS QUESTION: What do you predict will happen next in the Serena-Poppy-Gabriel saga?
Everyone's assuming Rufus will get wiped out, but I'm not so sure... Since he handed over a paper check, if Gabriel really does have a decent bone in his body, all he has to do is not cash it - or at least, cash it and stick the money into a legitimate investment, rather than spend it. And it seems stupid to me they'd have to use this as a way to get Rufus to move in with Lily ... everyone knows it will happen eventually, so no plot device like this is even necessary. I think Serena will be ID'd as his accomplice when Gabriel gets busted, which would explain the statement by Blair ***Spoiler*** when Serena gets arrested that "You have the wrong girl!" ***End Spoiler***

I'm just really excited to see the group together again - I really like the dynamic when they're all together, instead of in packs of 2 or 3. :)

  4. Gossip Girl Prom Pics

Wow. Leighton's dress is absolutely magnificent... it's a work of art.
You know your show has 'made it' when a designer makes a couture gown for a single episode!
Those dresses take hundreds of hours of work by hand!

Blake's dress is beautiful, but it's not anything I feel like we haven't seen before style-wise.
I thought her Snowflake Ball dress was prettier - and edgier - than this one, actually.

  5. Leighton Meester on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Leighton seems 'over' people asking her in interviews about her family background, though at least Ellen focused more on her life after that - People did the coverstory, and Rolling Stone mentioned it in their recent story on cast. I'd have liked to hear more about how she decided making a record was a good idea... Did she do musicals as a kid? Have any formal voice training? Or is she just doing it on a whim the way so many young actors seem to these days.

(Ironically, the one actor on GG with an actual band doesn't have a recording contract! Poor Ed!)

Speaking of... I've been wondering the same thing: will Chuck go to college or work full-time? I wondered whether his father had gone to college - that might be his excuse not to bother... Besides, with a lifetime guaranteed spot in a Fortune 500 company, it's not like he needs a Wharton degree to compete with all the other graduates. On the other hand... even if he's with Blair, it's hard to imagine him not wanting the 'experience' of college. And I can't fathom there's enough intrigue at Bass Industries to fuel Chuck's storylines for the next 4 years if all he does is work full-time.

  6. Georgina, Chuck Pic

In one of the promo clips, C. says "There's only one person who knows what happened the night S. met Gabriel for the first time" or something like that... Remember when G. returned, and she and S. went out for drinks, and they introduced themselves by another name to the older guys at the bar? So clearly, that was something they'd done before (we now know).

But I don't think G. has totally reformed... when Michelle T. did an interview with People, she dropped a hint she wouldn't be *all* sugar-and-spice.
  7. Sneak Previews of "A Southern Gentleman Prefers Blondes"

"I see you're wearing your beret... Who are we spying on tonight?" Putting all the drama aside for a minute, I love the way Chuck is always trying to prove how well he knows Blair. "...has Blair had a chance to share her favorite movies with you yet? Tiffany's, Roman Holiday..."; "Are you kidding? Have you ever seen him without gum? The oral fixation alone would drive you insane."; "You only think you like an intelligent man..." and he knows her favorite flowers are peonies, of course. It's so cute. She's the only girl he cares about enough to pay such close attention to her likes and dislikes, and he takes every opportunity to make it known. (Oh, and I love the way he looks at her when she's talking, too - guess the producers did too, b/c they cut to that shot of just him watching her while she talks :)

  8. Gossip Girl Spoilers: Prom Style

After Seder Anything, I just find it really ... disappointing, I guess, that they'd give Chuck another get-back-at-Blair scheme. I know the writers move fast on this show, but going from the introspective and reflective Chuck in one episode to vindictive Chuck and on to happy in-love Chuck in 4 eps? I'm getting whiplash!
  9. Gossip Girl Round Table: "Seder Anything"

Favorite Quote: "I meant, it's stupid of you to want her to change". Nate told Chuck once before, in "Hi, Society", that he liked Blair better after they broke up b/c she was being 'less Blair'. It's time someone called him out.

Best Jewish Humor: Anything Shawn Wallace says... but esp. loved "That's where we moved Elijah... oh well"

Nate: Columbia - though no one will convince me he didn't get into because of his family connections anyway - because it's a better personality fit

Biggest Plot Hole: Nate would not have stayed after the speech he gave, and if he did no one would have spoken to him for co-opting Tripp and Maureen's celebration, which was crass and tacky and everything he's not supposed to be

Gabriel: no, he's not setting off any fireworks, but he's different from any of the other male characters in his personality and manner and the mere contrast is something I like. I think everyone's just spoiled by the amazing chemistry of Leighton and Ed, but that's a bar set unfairly high

    Has Blair Changed?
As Chuck says she's [in the process of] changing. She went waaay overboard with the Ms. Carr incident, and her father's disgust at her behavior must have had a profound affect on her - something I think has been overlooked with all the Yale talk. She's growing up and we all change - but I don't think she's found her center yet. Like a pendulum, she'll find the happy medium - but I don't think Nate's idea of Blair is that center....
  10. Discuss "Seder Anything" in our Gossip Girl Forum!

I'm just really impressed with the writing in this episode, that they could take us from the opening where Chuck and Blair are being (albeit mild versions of) their worst selves to coming to terms with the way they've been living their lives, to taking the first steps towards changing. It's not easy to have that kind of shift in 40 minutes (of air time), and it didn't feel rushed or forced. Nice work.

The last 3 episodes are the caliber that got me hooked in the first place, and I'm thrilled that tonight another friend tuned in for the first time and absolutely loved it. Keep up the good work... I'm excited for Monday nights again!
  11. Nate and Blair vs. Chuck and Blair: Submit Your Argument!

Trying to imagine Chair in an actual relationship, at first I thought - as Chuck did - I couldn't imagine them holding hands and being all cutesy. But then I realized they'll actually be in really different places next year - Blair at school and Chuck likely working full time. That changes things dramatically... With her in school and him likely working, they will have a lot of new people around them and new situations to deal with.

No one does tag-team scheming like them, and ironically, getting the romance out of the way by putting them together in a real relationship may actually produce a more Season 1-like partnership between them that we haven't seen in a long time.

That's my hope, at least - that they will not turn into sugar-and-spice, but instead turn the synergy of their combined personalities outward instead of against each other, as it's been this season. That would keep things VERY interesting, but allow them some peace as a couple... at least for a while.
  12. Nate and Blair vs. Chuck and Blair: Submit Your Argument!

Lots of good points, NovaGirl. And I'm the first one to say I really, really did not like the whole Elle storyline (for anyone involved)... it felt forced. If they wanted to give Blair a reason to be angry with Chuck later they could've found a more plausible way, or a more interesting woman, to distract him.

But I have to disagree that Blair is more herself with Nate. Rather I think Blair can be who she *wants* to be with Nate, but she can be who she *is* with Chuck. And I don't see it quite the same way that Chuck's seeming unwillingness to fight for Blair indicates theirs is not true love, or the right pairing.

In 1x10 - when Blair is secretly with Chuck Nate tells him "Every time I see her lately she's lighter, she's happier, she's less... Blair", and says now that the pressure's off him he can see her more 'clearly' - but the Blair he's seeing that he likes is that way b/c she's with Chuck! I'd argue she wasn't "less Blair", she was simply happy. But she was embarrassed at the idea of dating Chuck - and it's not Chuck's fault she wouldn't stand up for her choice.

As for not being able to sustain an epic love story if the guy is 'having his cake and eating it too'... Generally I agree, actually. But in this case there a few mitigating factors:
    1) Despite the awful middle-age hair he sported in Season 2, Chuck is still only 17, and doesn't have the maturity to handle his feelings as well as Fred handled his about Holly;
    2) Blair utterly rejected Chuck at the end of 2x15 saying "I'm done", so his "playing Prince Charming" for the hooker could alternately be viewed as his way of sublimating his feelings for Blair;
    3) Where was Nate during her time of need - even as a friend? You can't argue that Chuck and Blair aren't right together b/c Chuck didn't help Blair in her time of need without running into the problem that Nate wasn't there for her, either...True, Chuck didn't reach out to her as her life went downhill in 2x15, but Blair did not reach out to EITHER Chuck or Nate in 2x16, 2x17, or 2x18... and Nate didn't reach out to Blair - I'd say that's a wash;
    4) The truth is it's much easier to create a 'perfect' epic love story in a 90 minute movie than in a weekly TV series, so I'm willing to allow characters some latitude when it comes to a story that has to play out over 3+ seasons :)

And BTW - you're dead-on about Nate's moral relativism... except I'd extend that to the entire ensemble. It's something Josh Schwartz has talked about before, that there are no heros and no villains - no 100% good or bad. That's part of what keeps it interesting for me.
  13. Nate and Blair vs. Chuck and Blair: Submit Your Argument!

You're so right Jen! In fact, in "The Grandfather", Blair doesn't just offer him sex, she offers him the kind of no-strings-attached, no 3 words necessary, no committment sex that people hate him for...and what is his response?

"This isn't you. It's not the Blair I want".
Because that's NOT what he wants from her.

He's always been in awe of her - she's witty, intelligent, athletic, well-read, beautiful, supportive... in essence, out of his league. She's usually the only one who actually appreciates him.

    - At Victrola: Blair says "Bart's going to love it." Chuck: "You are my toughest critic...". She believes in him, and he looks to her for validation.
    - Reading of the Will: When Blair says "I know you can do this", Chuck's expression softens almost imperceptibly at her praise, and he reads the letter. He trusts her.
    - On the Rooftop: Blair "I don't want you going anywhere. I couldn't bear it. So whatever you want to do to yourself, please don't do that to me." Chuck says "I'm sorry," because she's the one person he can trust to mean those words.

Everyone makes such a fuss over the limo. Well, when he says "you were amazing up there", the look on his face and the way he says it...it didn't read as a sexual come-on to me. He was in awe that this girl who he considered an equal just out-did him. Because despite the booze and girls, Chuck is way more controlling than Blair - he has to be. He's on his own and afraid and walls himself off from people. He's terrified to lose control. Blair was figuratively shedding her armor (headband was first to go) in a way Chuck isn't capable of doing.

Aside from Blair, he only goes for girls/women to whom he feels superior because he doesn't respect or like himself. So when the girl he thinks would never take an interest in him does, it's no suprise he falls hard and fast almost to the point of obsession.

One more point: My feeling is that men can separate sex and love better than women - their brains are literally wired differently. So the fact he has sex with other girls doesn't mean he is not in love with Blair!

  14. Nate and Blair vs. Chuck and Blair: Submit Your Argument!

Reading all the comments and the poll, I'm wondering what besides chemistry could explain the disproportionate vote for Chair? And it made me wonder:What is the average age of a Nair fan vs. a Chair fan?

I.e., if there's an older demographic watching the show than reading the books, maybe they're sympathizing with Chuck b/c he's dealing with more adult situations - liquidating his shares of Victrola to help Nate's family, being Bart's best man, having to save his father's company from ruin at the hands of Jack (even though he already has his inheritence).

I've often felt Chuck was "17 going on 30", and I'd actually prefer a more age-appropriate Chuck - but could this partly explain the huge Chair fan base?

  15. OMG! Blair Hooked Up with Jack Bass!

Since this is coming out *after* Chuck realized Jack set him up to lose the company, he's going to be pissed at Jack, not Blair - if the information had come to Chuck *before* he realized what a schmuck Jack was being, it might have been worse.

As for Blair being a 'slut', OMG! WHEN are we going to move past double standards?!
Blair sleeps with 2 or 3 guys and she's a slut - she's 'tarnished', but Nate sleeps with Blair, Vanessa, and Katherine and he still gets to be his sweet normal self? I don't think so. What's so scary about a girl who has the same kind of needs we so readily accept in a boy of the same age?

  16. Nate and Blair vs. Chuck and Blair: Submit Your Argument!

Gossip Girl is about nothing if not fantasy, and Chuck and Blair are the ultimate embodiment of our fantasies as both viewers and romantics.

We love to root for the underdog - and what a pedigree! Reviled by classmates, emotionally estranged from dad, raised in an environment devoid of any loving relationships or security. We also love a bad boy - evil plots against friends? Check. Recreational drug use? Check. Attitude and ego to spare? Check. But we also love to believe that every bad boy has a 'good guy' inside if only we knew which key would unlock his soul - and Blair has the key.

On the flip side, men and women - for different reasons - love to believe a woman who is literally and figuratively as tightly-wound as Blair must have a wild-woman she's trying to suppress deep inside. So we thrill when Chuck validates that belief. As much as we love a strong woman, we love a strong woman who's vulnerable more, because it gives us something to which we can relate and a reason to keep cheering for her.

Mix one bad boy underdog and one ice queen popular girl and, if you're lucky, you'll get... The Breakfast Club. But if you're *really* lucky, and that boy to be Chuck Bass and that girl to be Blair Waldorf, you get a romance for the ages.

But it's not just chemistry. It's Ed and Leighton's amazing ability to convey their feelings with subtlety. It's the way Chuck's bottom lip twitches almost imperceptibly when Carter Baizen walks into the room and kisses Blair. It's the tiniest shiver that ripples through Blair's body when Chuck starts to untie her halter. These are two gifted performers who also have incredible synergy together.

And in the end, what makes Chuck and Blair a great couple is their ability to love each other fiercely AND tenderly. Few on-screen couples achieve that balance, and in doing so they have become iconic. So here's another vote for Chuck and Blair, and for the incredible joy Ed and Leighton bring us when they bring their characters together.

  17. A Dapper Ed

I like it! Fashion forward but not flashy... and the bowtie isn't too big, like the horrid salmon-y pink one he wore in The Grandfather.

As for his appeal, there's no guy 100% of women will like, but for me it's those 'bedroom eyes', make-your-knees-weak kisses, and a natural sensuality. I saw a clip on You Tube of 2x25 Blair kissing Chuck, and after the take Leighton had this huge smile and said to Ed "That was HOT!"... And while haters might be saying Ed's put on some weight, he's definitely not fat... his stomach might not be ripped, but his gut isn't hanging over his belt or anything!
  18. Gossip Girl Spoilers: Stephanie Savage on Chair, Nair & Jack

Wonder if they took a lesson from the Sex and the City movie and filmed alternate scenes to avoid compromising the finale... e.g., identical kissing scenes with B & N and B & C. I mean, it's hard to keep a secret when you're filming in public, and despite Ed's not-so-cryptic remarks to MTV recently about a 'happy ending' to the finale, there has to be some mystery.

If the reported final exchange between C and B is true, it would be kindof a cool nod to the way the first season ended with her going off to Europe and he runs away. Not making the same mistake twice, we hope!

  19. "Seder Anything" Sneak Preview #2

Blair knows the wedding will be all over the society pages - the Vanderbilts are a ticket to a world that's her safe haven, now that New Haven is out of reach. She's basically using Nate to get back the security she needs, knowing how things will turn out. Nate may be wearing blinders when it comes to Blair's motives - but I still have no idea after 2 seasons why he wants to be with her. He's never had anything really nice to say about her - even in the Thanksgiving flashback.

Blair making a deal with Grandfather V. doesn't suprise me - she knows what she wants from Nate and is savvy enough to take advantage of the situation to get it. And that's why though Chuck may be an immature jerk sometimes, at least he's passionate about things and goes after what he wants (e.g., Victrola) rather than sitting like a bump on a log waiting for something or someone to tell him what to do. He's grown up a lot in the last two seasons, and while his "new money" may not carry the status she craves, he understands Blair better than Nate and is a better fit for her intellectually. Nate is a perfectly nice guy and sweet and cute - but Blair needs an equal, not a lapdog.

When I imagine the couples post-college, and Blair stressing over getting her dream job, Nate would tell her "I believe in you" - but Chuck would help her make it happen.
  20. Jessica Szohr Meets the Parents

For those of you who look at this picture and all you have to say is "Ed looks fat"...Seriously? Do you really watch the show to see if Leighton's got a buddha belly, or Blake's extensions are ratty, or Penn's getting a double chin?
*I* watch because I enjoy the acting and the characters!

To his critics: I hope people are kinder to you while you're growing up than you are being to Ed.

Bottom line is, 10 pounds less or more, he'll still be one of the most compelling actors on TV today.
  21. Gossip Girl Spoilers: Stephanie Savage on Chair, Nair & Jack

    Oops!

They say you hurt the ones you love - just because C's immature in his dealings with B doesn't mean he doesn't love her. In fact, who in the show has been more open about his feelings, ironically, than C??? He's constantly telling B in different ways - like when he gets GG to post the bogus report about Muffy for B, when he says - several times - the back of the limo is 'sacred'...

N, on the other hand, never has more than mundane conversations with B - and in Remains of the J, he totally disses B to V, when he congratulates V on becoming more like B! That is NOT cool! When N broke up with B after his father got arrested, he hadn't been interested in her for awhile - but kept her hanging on. She finally had the sense to let go, but don't think he was the good guy in all that. He kept his own secrets from B and from C.

And when he confronted C at the limo over sleeping with B? He was over with B ... why was he so angry that C slept with B so soon after a breakup that he was too chicken to admit was overdue!? And sorry, but C rightly called him out on refusing 'what B was throwing at him'.

When N talked about her after the breakup, he liked her better when she was dating C secretly - in other words, he liked her better when she was less like herself. N is not some sweet, innocent guy, people! He's not evil, but he's no saint... none of the characters are.

All that said, I'm ready for a return to more light-hearted fare and a bit less drama in the literal sense. Please give us a more even party/fun-to-traumatic event/drama ratio :) And I am very much looking forward to seeing how C and B work it out together... Leighton and Ed have the best chemistry on TV, and love them or hate them, you can't not watch them...
  22. Gossip Girl Spoilers: Stephanie Savage on Chair, Nair & Jack

First, bravo, producers, for letting N and C have a relationship again - they have really good platonic chemistry, and are fun to watch together because they're less alike than D and N.

Second, I totally agree with whoever wrote that C's fascination with B (in the TV series) would have started long before they hooked up. In fact, when he said in 2.03 "...the thing that always fascinated me about you...", I remember thinking it sounded like his interest had to predate their night at Victrola. When he told her in 2.01 that he was afraid she'd see what he was really like - put two-and-two together... C never sought out girls/women he could actually stay with, b/c he doesn't like himself (re: "What's your dad like?" "Like me, only older and meaner") and for sure he'd never feel good enough for B.

They say you hurt the ones you love, mind - for being ambivalent about B and giving
  23. Gossip Girl Episode Recap, Music, Pictures & More!

First, no show is perfect every week but that's no reason to stop watching! I thought this episode was excellent. I LOVED the exchange between C. and B. at the lockers!!! Especially that B. spent the rest of the episode trying to convince herself that what C. said wasn't true about her and N.

I like the way N. has 'grown up' - e.g., how he handled B. This episode also began gently veering the characters out of "middle age" behavior and more like teenagers - which I've been waiting for.

I don't have a problem with the C.-V. hookup - lots of people hook up when they're hurt and pining for someone else... I am no fan of V., but I reluctantly admit C. and V. have some chemistry - though I would never, EVER buy a storyline that they have more than a physical relationship because there's 2 seasons of C. and V. totally rejecting all things that the other represents, but jealousy makes for strange bedfellows!

Thumbs-up for more diverse scenes and a much-needed dose of fun! Now if the writers could just stop giving me whiplash with 1- and 2-episode stories...
  24. The State of Gossip Girl

The Grandfather marked, for me, the true return to form I'd been praying for.

I was hooked up to "Oh Brother, Where Bart Thou?", then it felt like you didn't know how to go from such a heavy episode back to the fun and the witty dialog and partying and scheming.

    1. Chuck and Blair. They need to be together for more than han 2 or 3 episodes in Season 3. Not just because it's getting seriously annoying to have them only come together for a minute, but Leighton and Ed have genuine chemistry and I want more scenes where they have dialog. That said, I wouldn't want them permanently together until the last season of the show or I fear the Rachel-and-Ross syndrome.

    2. Chuck. He is great with Nate, but you keep putting things between them, and you're aging Chuck into a 35 year old at warp speed! That is NOT fun to watch. He's fun when he's acting 18-going-on-35, which is very different. PLEASE please bring his playful side out and give the brooding a rest. and give the guy a buddy, even if it's not Nate - he needs a guy to pal around with. I WANT TO SEE THE BOY SMILE ONCE IN AWHILE - a genuine smile like he wore through most of Season 1. And lose the "accountant hair". I know D&G and Boss is all about that right now , but it's not "him".

    2. Nate. Chase is actually fun to watch when you give him something to do - something where he's not always miserable and brooding.

    3. Serena. When she's doing something other than being with Dan, I enjoy watching her so much more! Blake and Penn have good chemistry, but S. & D. literally have nothing in common, so their breakups were predictable and not dramatic, because no one believed in real life they'd stay together. And more girl-time with Blair - they are so much fun to watch together!

    4. Vanessa. She's supposed to be this 'outsider' type who's all feisty and attitude - but she's always weepy or pouting or complaining, and her body language screams "I'm insecure". It's annoying to watch her. Jessica's line delivery is flat - serioulsy, did anyone even screen-test this girl? BUT, we're stuck with her, so PLEASE give us something to help us connect! What does her apartment look like? Where are her other friends? Where is her family? And give her a reason other than another documentary to be anywhere outside of Brooklyn.

    5. The narrow focus on relationships is SUFFOCATING the show. Lately it's like watching ping-pong as you go from a scene in one apartment to another and back again. Maybe it's due to cost cutting, but it's boring.

These are kids with access to amazing things - the girls should go to Fashion Week, the guys should have a Vegas weekend, they all should be learning how to drive so they can enjoy new cars they get for graduation...

Turn the drama outwards - make some of the drama about events, places, and people other than between/among each other.

I have been re-watching Season 1 on iTunes and all I can say is I pray The Grandfather is not the exception, but the rule.
