Great, intriguing episode. I loved that Jimmy finally kissed Karen...I was beginning to wonder if their chemistry was just in my imagination. The music was FABULOUS during this ep, I loved the variety of songs and the different ways they were sung. And Jennifer Hudson is the bomb, folks! I could listen to her sing all day (of course, I could listen to the gal that plays Karen, too..what a voice!). I agree with the reviewer on everything else, especially that slimeball Jerry and the totally EVIL Ellis! I hope that Karma makes its way back to Ellis and that he never works on Broadway again! And I hope we don't see him on SMASH unless it is to watch his total downfall, that rat! And Angelica Huston is just a GODDESS...she steals every scene she is in, and I loved that she chose love and I hope she does produce a show herself and rubs it in Jerry's wrinkly face! Oh and I am glad that Ivy and Karen are okay with each other now.
BTW, I don't think that Tony will ever be anything but immature when he feels like doing so...its part of his charm, and I know a lot of men who are very much like him. They're funny, charming, damaged, sexy and a huge pain in the rear, but when the chips are down, they are THERE for the people they love, no questions asked. Gibbs realizes Tony has his flaws and his eccentricities, and the way that he deals with them is to use the Gibbs slap to the back of the head to keep him in line and keep him focused.
I believe that viewers love this show because of the variety of realistic, wonderful characters that inhabit it, and because justice is served by the end, and all is right with the world, which is very satisfying.
I loved this episode because it contained lots of scenes with one of my favorite three characters, the holy trinity of Abby, McGee and Ducky! Dr Mallard is just a marvelous character, played superbly by David McCallum. Like Sean Connery, McCallum is still a vital and intriguing man who will never lose his sex appeal or his wonderful witty talent. And I don't blame McGee one iota for keeping Tony from his ticketing pal, because Tony would, indeed, abuse whatever privilege that McGee showed him. That's Tony's way, he's immature and takes advantage because he was raised by an immature man. I think that Tony's being humorous is one of the show's saving graces, because in the midst of death and mayhem, Tony manages to keep everyone together and rolling their eyes, if not laughing at his stupid jokes or immitations or movie quotes. And I though Jimmy Palmer aquitted himself rather well in this episode. Good for him.
I loved the two parter, and agree with the reviewer that it should get awards for all the actors involved. I though Brolin did an excellent job of being Castle's taciturn spy father...it was rather Shakespearean, actually. I also loved Stana's Beckett getting seriously nasty with that perps girlfriend...she can be a serious bad-ass when needed.
I hope that we see more of Castle's dad, and I would love to see a reunion of him and Martha, and see how he reacts to seeing his grandchild in person! I bet they'd get along like a house on fire!
Great stuff, thanks to cast and crew!
I thought this episode was a bit slow, and I didn't like the different point of view with Shaw and Cole instead of Reese and Finch, but by the time we were 2/3 of the way through, I was enjoying it. I think that Sarah S from Fairly Legal is a marvelous young actress, beautiful and focused and a great contrast to Reese, though she's just as bad assed as he is! I also was gratified that she finally accepted Finches phone number, and that Bear welcomed her back. I hope that in the coming battle with Root, she will help Reese and Finch kill that complete nutjob of a sociopath. If Root ever got ahold of the machine, heaven help us all. I do think this show needs to do odd episodes in order to grow, and I can hardly wait to see what they come up with next week!
Though I was all for Fitz at the beginning, he really botched it when he accepted Mellies word that Cyrus was behind everything, and when he shoved Liv into a closet and had sex with her and then told her she was crap and he couldn't see her anymore..what a jerk! Now he's having her surveiled? REALLY? Creepy! And I'm sorry, but the Navy guy that is doing the survelance can't be her boyfriend because their relationship would be based on a lie. She could never trust him. I agree with the reviewer that Cyrus giving Mellie back some of her own medicine was AWESOME. Mellie is such a rattlesnake, I keep hoping something dreadful happens to her. She's a sociopath and completely evil. Meanwhile, I wish David would join Pope and Associates, and get back together with Abby, because it is clear that the two have tons of chemistry!
I enjoyed this ep, especially since Felicity got all glammed up and really got into helping the guys on their quest for justice. Plus there was a whole lotta romance going on, which is one of the main reasons I watch the show. I think that Diggs is long overdue for a real relationship, and I hope that Oliver gets some serious snuggle time with the hottie cop. But I think that in the end, he might end up going back to Lauren or having a fling with Felicity. Especially since now he can be himself with Felicity because she knows his secret. Also, she calls him on his BS, and makes him a better crime-fighter. And I think Moira is going to get killed if she keeps trying to leave and have the CO of the organization killed off. She's in too deep.
Oh, and I adored the "pizza shark" that Tony used to get Vance's kids to laugh for a change. Bravo Tony! Those kids needed to be just kids for awhile, and NO, they are not old enough to take care of themselves, they look about 6 and 8, or thereabouts, not even close to being teenagers yet, so there's no way you could leave kids that young alone, especially after their mother was murdered. I enjoy Tony and Ziva's moments together, and I thought this episode had a great moment between Ziva and Vance, as well. Vance and Gibbs also had some great moments, and I completely understand why Vance chose to try and work with Gibbs before taking back his desk from that ninny who is the acting director of NCIS. Great ep!
I loved this episode, and I think Cote DePablo is a fine actress, very nuanced and lovely, not so obvious and externalized as Michael Weatherly, but that is what makes them such a wonderful contrast as actors. I have a Drama degree, so I think I know a little something about good acting vs bad acting. I honestly do not see much bad acting on NCIS at all, ever. These are actors at the top of their game, which is one reason this show is at the top of the ratings. Good scripts are important, of course, as is good direction. But if your actors stink, consistently, it will slowly unravel the entire show into a hot mess. That just doesn't happen on NCIS. And I have to say that even my 3 favorites, Abby, Ducky and McGee are all superb, even when they've only got a few lines per episode. Abby is a delight every time she's on screen, and David McCallum is a treasure, so accomplished and fascinating.
I enjoyed this episode which had a lot of lighter moments and some truly great stuff with Steve and Danno's bromance, which is just precious. Honestly, I love watching the two of them banter and argue like an old married couple, it is hilarious, and I love that they care about each other as people. There is nothing wrong with two heterosexual men being friends, and they add to each other's strengths and help with the other's weaknesses.
That said, I also would like more episodes that highlight the scrumptous Daniel Dae Kim (all of the men on this show are just drool-worthy, though) and I also want to know more about Steve's mom. Kono isn't really much of an exciting character, in my opinion, but I think Catherine shows real promise, and she's good with Steve.
Reviewer said " I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Nathan Fillion is a genius. The man is able to portray so much emotion just through a facial expression."
YES, yes, yes! You really hit the nail on the head, reviewer, and I totally agree that there is nothing but perfection in Nathan Fillions acting. He's amazing, talented, handsome and funny, and he actually cares about his fans. What an awesome person! I hope he nabs a statue for this episode, too.
That said, my heart was in my mouth the whole time when he'd found out that his daughter was kidnapped. Scared the crap out of me, as a mom, and was appropriately tense within the show. I LOVED that Gates basically said "Drop everything else and take whatever resources you need to find Alexis!" YAY GATES! And I also loved how Beckett and his mom Martha were both there for him, helping him keep it together. Just beautiful. I hope that they catch the slimebags who took these girls and make them pay. I know Castle will!
I wish there weren't so many Sweets-haters on TV Fanatic, because I honestly enjoy the character and his interactions with all the people at the Jeffersonian, including Booth and Bones. He's an intelligent, sensitive guy and a good person at heart, and I really loved the way he helped the young gal who had been raped. Having been a rape survivor myself, I can honestly say that I would have LOVED it if someone like Sweets had agreed to help me and find the person who hurt me and bring him to justice. As it was, I had no one who cared, and my mother, who is generally a good mom, wanted to sweep it all under the rug, and basically acted competitive and angry with me for going out with guys at all. So I know how that girl felt, in terms of having a mom who didn't want her daughter to reveal her pain. I have no problem seeing less of Booth and Bones, because they are BORING and have zero chemistry.
BTW, reviewer, Julian Fellowes has said that season 4 will pick up SIX MONTHS after the end of season 3, NOT years later, as you propose at the end of your review. Six months isn't that big of a time jump at all, and I imagine they will be 'rebuilding' Mary's life, which is what they've said they wanted to do in the first few episodes. It would make no sense to jump farther in the future than 1921-22, because if they moved up to the start of the second World War, Mary would be considered too old to be wooed by some new suitor. And she'd have a teenage son to deal with, one who probably would want to join the war effort. Also, the Dowager Countess would be dead by that time, and I am sure Lord Grantham would be a grumpy grandpa.
Oh, and I forgot to mention how much I enjoyed the beautiful Scottish environs of Duneagle! Gorgeous castle, beautiful landscape...sigh. I really want to visit Scotland someday soon!
I am glad that Rose is coming to Downton, and I hope that she doesn't get involved with Branson, that would just be too 'cute' and sickening. I am just sick about Matthew dying, but I believe Mary will soldier on, and we will see her hopefully become involved with someone from America who will spice things up around Downton Abbey. I also don't think Edith should be agreeing to be the mistress of a publisher. There is no happy ending there, she said it herself. If she does get pregnant, she will have a bastard child and bring shame on her household. She deserves to find a man who can marry her outright. I can't wait for season 4!
I agree with you, MrWriteSF, that Mary's poor wee boy will always have the day his father died as his birthday, which is tragic. I feel, unlike the reviewer, that this was a stellar episode with lots going on, both horrible moments and happy moments. I loved that Mrs Potmore was actually relieved that the bulbous spice merchant was a filandering creep who just wanted a wife who could cook him fancy meals while he went out and played grab-fanny with every woman he met. I laughed so hard when Mrs Hughes said he was "chewing some woman's face off"! LOL! And I LOVED the scene with Carson and the baby. Such dear tenderness from such a stiff and correct man! And I loved the moment when Bates was exclaiming over his beloved Anna dancing with abandon! True love!!
I am with KansasGuest, the outsider guy filming everything on his smartphone is pretty boring.
Meanwhile, it was nice to see Gold/Rumple get his karmic payback for being such an evil twee dwarfish jerk so much of the time, and to see him realize that he can't just come waltzing back into his son's life and expect to be welcomed with open arms. Though I do not like the Neal/Bae character at all, I hope that he has some time to talk to his son and be the father that his father never was. I am pretty concerned about Cora and Regina's plans to just kill everyone off and take what they want, as that would pretty much end the show. I also think Hook needs to go off and be somewhere else, he's such a slimeball, and he's doing no good to anyone, now. Poor Belle, I hope that she gets her memory back or that they can ship her off to an asylum, because she's not happy in Storybrooke.
Heartbreaking, but excellent episode! I am glad that we have the white hats (Emily, Aidan, Nolan) all squared away and the black hats (the Graysons and the Initiative) all squared away in their corner. Now all that is left is for Emily to get back to basics and burn the Graysons house down, both literally and metaphorically. I think a head to head battle with Victoria and Emily would be worth selling tickets, because Victoria is such a pit viper and Emily is so much like a female James Bond, you just know that their battle would be brutal, protracted and scorched-earth. Victoria and her husband are psycopaths, and they are grooming their son to be the same, so at this point, they're nothing but evil predators. It is up to Emily/Aidan/Nolan to clean out this pestilence before anyone else dies, or gets caught in the crossfire.
I was thrilled that we got to see more of Finch, wonderful, brilliant Finch in this episode, and I laughed so many times as his interactions with hotel guests...everything from bathrooms to recommending steak houses! He is a true rennaisance man! I was also glad that he bought the hotel and put the Serbian gal in place as manager. And I was happy to see Zoe and Reese back in action together. They're like two peas in a pod. I wish she would just join the team and work with them on every episode!
And hurrah for Fusco being all manly cop and taking out those assasins! I love me some portly, bad-assed Fusco! The only thing I didn't like about the ep was the assasin guy and his handler in Washington and the re-emergence of Root. She's so creepy and nasty, she gives me chills.
Oh, and wasn't it just ducky of Mellie to throw Cyrus under the freakin' bus with the Prez like that? She is so blatantly evil, she's beyond belief. So now Fitz thinks everything was Cyrus's fault, when it obviously wasn't. I hope that Cyrus doesn't lose his job, because he has often stated that his job is his life.
Meanwhile, what is the deal with Mellie hating children and not knowing how to even interact with them? She has, supposedly, given birth to more than one child, and we're supposed to believe she hasn't got a motherly bone in her whole body? And WHY is Abby suddenly so pathetic, that she goes to her former boyfriends house and whimpers at him? How craven is that?
continued...you need to see a psychiatrist! Also, what was up with Quinn becoming Lizzie Borden in this episode? The look in her eyes and on her face when she stabbed the dead girl was revolting! EW! Even David, who has been a white hat, and wanted to get back to that, suddenly blows off Olivia when she's the one whom he called first when he found a bloody dead girl in his bed! But now he's decided he doesn't need her anymore, and insults her after all she has done for him? What a JERK. And now we have a creepy Naval Intelligence Officer who has totally rigged Olivia's apartment for surveilance who is also trying to get into her pants...ewwww! Creepy barely begins to describe it!
I couldn't seem to find any character to like in this episode, as everyone was in totally creepy/horrific/nasty/evil mode! First of all, I think Fitz was a complete asshat for dragging Olivia into an electrical room and more or less forcing himself on her (not that she protested) and then having the NERVE to say "it's over, even though I can't control my erections around you, I want nothing to do with you." I'm sorry, that is total BS! He's a grown man, not a horny teenage boy! He certainly CAN control his genitals, he just doesn't want to, the rat bastard. And the look of sheer revulsion he had on his face everytime his wife Mellie tried to have sex with him, or even give him a bj, was just awful. I can't imagine any man, let alone one who claims he can't control his erections, willfully turning down oral sex, no matter who it is from. I realize Mellie is a lying piece of crap, and evil in her own right, but seriously, if you nearly puke everytime you're naked with her, you need to see a psychiatrist.
I think that Rachel really is pregnant, and that Brody the man-whore is really the father, but I'd be willing to bet she gets back together with Finn because Brody will dump her the moment he finds out that he might have to commit to her.It doesn't surprise me that he is a prostitute, either, since he's so into himself. Oh, and I was thrilled to see the gal from the Glee Project 2 get a chance to play Artie's girlfriend! She was so talented, I was bummed when she lost to Blake.
Fascinating episode. I am not at all surprised that Emma ran away. I do hope she gets it together and actually marries Will, because I think they could be good together, as long as Will stops being such a tool and taking her for granted. I loved the hook up of Blaine and Kurt, though I think the whole "vapo-raped" thing was ridiculous, because she came nowhere near his genitals, so she didn't actually do anything sexual to him, therefore she didn't rape him at all, she just put some vaporub on his chest. Big deal, his mom probably did that for him for the first 10 years of his life. I think that she knew, deep down, that Blaine would never change his sexuality, she just had a crush on him, which is fairly normal for high school, when everyone is trying out their sexual identities. Hurrah for Quinn for giving Santana a spin, and then realizing that being a lesbian just isn't her thing. I saw a lot of that when I went to an all-womens college.
I loved this episode, especially, as usual, the fantastic music. This is probably the only show on TV that has never aired a bad song, which is saying something.
I hope that Jason leaves Gunnar and Scarlett alone, because they are on the verge of getting what they want for a change, and he could ruin all that because he's a jerk and a tool who uses people for his own gain.
I hope that Rayna gets back together with Deacon, because they have SMOKIN'chemistry and I think that they do love each other, though it would have been really hard for me, if I were Rayna, to say no to luscious Liam, who looks very sexy to me. Still, I think she needs to ditch that pathetic excuse for a husband and get on with her life. Teddy is just a huge wimp and a loser, and I hope he doesn't try to get custody of the kids. Avery is scrawny, boring and a jerk, so I could care less if he gets screwed on a record deal. Juliette is about to get her comeuppance, methinks.
Loved, loved, LOVED this episode, both for all the funny moments and the tender ones. Though I agree with all the Firefly fans (I'm a Browncoat myself) that they should have had more interaction between Zoe and Castle/Mal.
I adored that Castle and Gates were both big reality show fans! And I am thrilled that Lanie and Espo were going out again. Those two were meant for each other.
