I don't. Him returning would mean that he's left, and that would just suck. He's my reason for watching, damnit! He makes everything better(unless he's having scenes with Elena).
@Bored Now Actually, I think they've gotten the meaning of the word 'Moral compass' entirely wrong. A moral compass is someone who says 'Hey guys, this is wrong. We shouldn't do this.'
Now, according to Zach in this interview, Matt's the moral compass because he does what he thinks is right. As in, what his heart tells him to do. Which is to protect Elena. You figure something witty to say, I'm stunned
Now someone please kill this stupid, useless character off, PLEASE
Oh, so now all the suspense around 'Will she complete the transition, or die? Will Bonnie succeed?', which they've been hyping ever since the finale, is gone. She completed it. Okay, good, glad I won't have to speculate or feel excited.
Spoilers are supposed to give us HINTS about what might happen, to make us excited. Not to give us a plot summary.
I don't know, this whole character sounds a little bit too much like Faye for my liking... and great as PT may be, there's really no need for Hayley. If Forwood are to break up, I want it to be because of something either Care or Tyler do or feel, not because some new character suddenly shows up and ruins everything before the next decade dance. This is just too convenient for the plot(and fans) for me to like.
Oh, we're not discussing the pointlessness that is Elena. I don't bother. It's Stefan's decision that's endlessly frustrating. He's an actual character with real issues, if you just ignore out a weekly inconsistency
(cont) Point is, Stefan's an extreme with issues. Anyone BUT him would have saved their loved one.
Though I must agree with @Bored Now on this whole thing could have been handled WAY better - at the end of the day, Elena was fully conscious and not injured, he could just have let her swim up on her own and taken Matt afterwards. Or, if her leg was asleep, he could have taken both. Problem solved, everyone happy. Sloppy writing, writers. Very sloppy.
I get your point about Stefan's nature and doing the selfless thing. However, this is not just about being selfish or selfless, it's about the person you love most dying. Saving her would have been human and natural. Stefan seems to be an extreme when it comes to decision-making, as his affair with Katherine showed him what it's like to have no choice and nothing to say. I think that's made him hellbent on letting Elena make her own decisions, regardless(just look at her latest deal with Elijah: it was his life, as well as Care, Damon and Tyler's that was on stake, not hers, and yet he let her take the wheels. It's either sloppy writing, Stefan letting his desire to let her make her own decisions overruling common sense, or both). There are, of course, more factors, I find it interesting that in season 2 he challenged her yet after his bender he lets her take the wheels(again, the deal with Elijah). And with that in mind, I understand why he did what he did.
I think the reason everyone's so freaked about Stefan's decision is that there is no right answer. Do you save the girl you love, even if she doesn't want you to, or do you save a dude she cares about and let her die? That is a horrible ultimatum, and aside from Delena/Stelena shippers letting their ship cloud their judgement, what the individual fan think would have been the right choice is a matter of opinion and personal belief. Now, personally, I think that Stefan could have easily saved them both, so that makes the whole scene really annoying and slightly hard to take seriously, but if you're just looking at the ultimatum itself, I'm gonna have to agree with Damon. When the love of your life is seconds from drowning, you don't go all consequence ethics, you save her, and afterwards you say you thought she was pointing at a cute fish.
@Veronika I hope so! I don't see why Elena can't wear bright colors and/or get a new haircut(shoulder length anyone?) If we have to endure a Mary-Sue being in every scene, at least make her pretty. It's Nina Dobrev, this should not be an issue
Well, at least Elena being made human again is not about her being too wonderful to go through what everyone else is going through, it's more about Stefan's guilt. Thank god, that's not quite as Mary-Sue-ish as it could have been. Granted, there's still the little issue of Bonnie doing this for Elena but never even thinking about saving Abbie, not to mention that Elena's the main character and is now missing out on her one big chance to get something resembling a personality, but... whatever. I'll just fast-forward or something
I have to agree with Bored Now, this is not Nina's best acting... If she was waking up from a hangover and found a wedding ring on her finger, it would have been pretty perfect, but being dead? Her voice didn't even tremble when she asked if she was dead.
Also, what's with the sirens and cars? I get that she's got supernatural hearing, but shouldn't she be hearing Stefan and Damon breathing, heartbeats, clothes rustling and then, if she focused, cars in the streets? When Jenna got turned(which Canning pulled off way better than this), she didn't know about her extended hearing until Elena told her to focus. (Besides, there should be no-one around to drive cars anymore.)
Kat's 'I'm getting a storyline this season! A real one!' smile at the end makes me feel really sorry for her. She's just so thrilled, it's kind of cute. And really sad, because there's no way it's gonna be good. We know next to nothing about TVD magic, there are just convenient spells, where did all this dark magic come from? Fanfiction is better than this!
Dark!Willow was foreshadowed in season 2, and it was all great. This, however, is just being suddenly thrown at us out of nowhere, and it will be mediocre at its very best.
@Annie the vamp hunters must have staked him when they took Elena and Stefan. All the stuff about Delena scenes must have been foilers. That's probably why the next episode is named 'Memorial'
@Christina Actually, I'd forgotten that line, thank you. It's hard to keep alert when it's just Matt and Elena. Okay, I see the foreshadowing bit - wishing it was possible to delete earlier posts now, haha - but it wasn't all that amazing, at least not as epic and foreshadow-y as Plec wants it to be.
It could have been, had Elena shown any signs of being a different person than before, if it had had any effects - did she seem relieved in the next episode? As if the burden of her old life had been lifted off of her shoulders and she was now free to embrace the mess her life had become, no longer nostalgic of the past? No, she was the exact same, dull, caring person as she'd been before. No changes. And that makes the scene insignificant and kind of hilarious - it had no build-up nor effects of any kind. And one foreshadow-heavy line is not going to redeem it.
'Our Town' was foreshadowing to the Departed? Huh. Must have been very subtle, because I certainly didn't see it. No, seriously. Elena and Matt had a touching moment at a bridge. How does that foreshadow Elena drowning and being turned into a vampire? Then I suppose Elena gasping Breaking Dawn style at the end was foreshadowing for when they find out in season four that she's conceived a little vamp child that'll make Klaus go all hybrid army! on the Salvatores but then he realizes that the tiny vamp is actually darn cute, so he speeds his ass back home, just in time for tea and manicure night with Elijah and Rebekah. Then Damon and Stefan realize that they're causing Elena far too much pain by making her choose, so they make Bonnie turn them into one man. Sadly, Bonnie dies, but the spell is successful so Elena figures that she can just get another witch friend. Everyone lives happily ever after, as shown in season five.(of course, they needed a big bad for that season too, so they brought Esther back to life and made her do witch stuff for a few episodes until she reunited with her kids and they all ran off with Caroline to live happily ever after in the season finale and that's when the show was cancelled by the horrified CW crew)
And we should care about these guest stars because...?
I'm sorry to say this but TVD needs to get canceled at this point. The show has crossed over into Heroes territory and is beyond redemption by this point. And before all of you start calling me a hater or saying i'm Bored Now, for the record, i was one of the first people who would defend this show but i just can't do it anymore. Elijah and Caroline are the ONLY things left worth mentioning. The rest of the bland cast needs to die.

THIS. You just summed up pretty much all my thoughts on this show. Preach, baby.
