@entwife that's a fabulous episode.
episode where he's so beautiful, it's painful. red-handed. probably a million more but that one really sticks with me. oops. also, red hair and silver tape. what are yours?
@ani i have always seen a strong emotional entanglement between jane and lisbon and always thought it would evolve to a man/woman thing. my only problem is the timing. if it happens too soon, it'll be weird. it'll take away some of the tragic trajectory - how's that for an alliteration? they have to keep feeding any romance to us with an eyedropper. as patrick would say, that's what makes the trick work.
@entwife thanks for your research of the scenes in crimson ticket. jane was definitely "had" by lorelei. his slip was showing and lisbon called him on it. he recovered really quick from the shock of how he was fooled by rj but no mistake about it, he got taken.
also love km's point that lisbon just agreed to the technical truth of his request and let him tell lorelei that no one was listening. it's like someone asking you "do these pants make my ass look big?" and you answer, "no...those pants don't make your ass look big."
also love km's analysis of the theme of adultery in the second half of season 5. toe-curling.
@ani jane is right. bosco loved lisbon, how could he not? and yes, that was jane speaking for himself; giving his assessment of lisbon. also, lisbon loves jane, how could she not?
@entwife i still think patrick was lying when he told teresa he knew about lorelei from the beginning. look at his face in the car after he says that. his expression says "did she buy that?" he does that a few times during that episode. and in the morning after scene in crimson hat, his face looks genuinely tortured and surprised. and of course, my old refrain is, it makes the character so much more fascinating if he got taken by lorelei. he quickly got his wits about him and realized his plan worked, but he was thrown by that. and he had a connection with her which grew even after he knew she was rj's girl.
don't know if anyone but lisbon and jane have to know about patrick gutting rj (maybe there's a fire that patrick sets afterward) but for her, it would be like finding that your dog chewed up your hamster. how do you deal with that? or get that image out of your mind?
i really want patrick to get to kill red john. all the fan fictions have one of the team do it so i guess that's what the zeitgeist votes for. but i hope, especially if there's more story to come, that patrick wields the knife. a knife because it would be good if it's something more intimate and primitive than a gun. if he does get to kill him rj style, it would open up all sorts of problems. harder for teresa to feel ok about it. harder for the law to ignore even if the first cut was in self-defense. could give patrick all sorts of horror at his own behavior and his ability to sink as low as rj.
riki tiki paddy or whack a minion? excellent!
think they had that tv monte carlo thing that simon went to last year or the year before. owain went.
that's a pretty good episode. the box car scene is great. so sexy.
@km sure sandy had an effect. viewers who are sick of red john should be careful what they wish for. when they get it, they'll wonder why patrick doesn't seem as poignant, why his smiles don't seem so heartbreaking; why his getting up in the morning doesn't seem so courageous. sure i want him to get happy and laid sometime and i hope we get a goodly bunch of episodes that show us what everyone does with their lives (except rigsby, of course - but that's just me). maybe they could get more mileage out of having the end of red john solve nothing in terms of patrick's happiness. perhaps he has horrible scars and habituated feelings of hopelessness that must be worked through. he attempts a relationship with teresa but can't sustain any intimacy. we follow him on a journey of recovery. we find out there were problems with his marriage. maybe he spends time yanking rj acolytes out of their hidey holes like a mongoose until he finally gets his life back.
hi entwife. totally agree. i would not trade 22 episodes for fewer episodes that are shot better. the eye candy factor of simon makes up for it. however, as you know, i do hate when i feel like they waste so many episodes on jejune or non-patrick plots. the ratio of prime rib eye to chopped chuck seems punitively high. know i'm in the minority here with stuff like red feud. but i would prefer seeing patrick rearrange his sock drawer than a few of the eps from this past season.
but i digress. how are you? you got your name back i see. did christine help you?
