Oh my goodness - if Max Greenfield doesn't get nominated, what little faith I have in the Oscars will just be shattered.
I'm torn between Donald Glover, Danny Pudi and Jim Rash for Community. I think all three are deserving, but I can't make up my mind as to which one. Rash already has an Oscar, so I won't feel bad if he's not nominated, but I'm really rooting for the other two.
I'll be happy as long as I don't see anyone from Glee or Big Bang Theory on the list.
I don't know - I think Amy Poehler is a more likely candidate than Zooey Deschanel. Zooey is cute and adorable - she is essentially her character. But she's not what makes New Girl funny. That would be Schmidt...
That being said - I agree with most of your wishlist except for Rachel Bilson.
Networks will slap anything on a Friday night, really. NBC has Whitney as a lead-in to Community, as a lead in to Grimm. Three completely different shows. Fox using Kitchen Nightmares to lead into Fringe is just another example of why Friday nights are considered a death slot...
If Jon Cryer gets nominated, I think I just might break my TV. Just...no. I think I'd be more upset if he got a nod than if all my favourite people didn't.
That being said - I'm rooting for Joel McHale - he did some shining comedic work this season.
NBC has to be the worst network ever when it comes to managing their shows. My goodness - Grimm already has a good following on Friday...WHY would they move it to Mondays in the summer and then Fridays in the fall?
And why not give the struggling shows the summer Olympics boost? Like Community, 30 Rock, Up All Night?
It's like they're TRYING to screw all their shows over.
Hank: Okay - am I the only one that burst out laughing at the scene with Hank and his weapons of Wesen destruction? I'm sorry, but the only times I can tolerate him are when he's at the precinct. Other than that...well, I can hope for better in the next season.
Renard: I'm a little disappointed that we didn't get to see more of his agenda. At this point I don't think there's any possibility that he's a Wesen, but he's some kind of human power-wielder.
Great review, Mr. McHatton. Good call on Nick's power-ups being related to the visual stimulus of the Wesen's face, I'm going to watch the reruns for clues LOL. I also agree with the timing - there was a lot, though I loved it. It might have been better as a 90 min finale.
Okay - I loved this finale. It was exciting, maddening, bad-ass, cliff-hanging; it was everything I would want from a season finale. Good job, Grimm.
Starting with Nick: I loved the scene where he was telling Juliette the truth. You can really see how he's embraced it all by how enthusiastic he was getting. Also, his "power-up" in the final scene when he wiped the floor with Akira - what an awesome scene. I kind of figured that the woman in black was his mother, but I'm glad we had the reveal anyway - I'm looking forward to those explanations.
Juliette/Monroe: Of course Juliette thinks the man is nuts! That was acted really, really well by Bitsie Tulloch. Again, looking forward to seeing how she wakes up, and what happens with that cat. As always, Monroe is one of the strongest links in the show.
Great review! Nailed everything. Troy and Abed as plumbers were hilarious. I agree with how good it was that the Ocean's parody ended early, because the heartfelt goodbye at the end was classic Community. Touching, yet absurd and hilarious.
What I like about these three episodes (I mentioned this in the finale review) is how much character growth there was. Especially for Pierce. The old Pierce would have never been content to be a sideline part of the plan, but here he was, working as a team with his friends. I loved it.
Dean's crush on Jeff NEVER gets old...it kills me every time!!
That being said...who can blame him? How on earth does Joel McHale manage to STILL be hot in guyliner and THAT getup??
Great review. Not only was this brilliantly executed, but it was hilarious. It was so awesomely, absurdly offensive. Some of the imagery in the game just had me dying of laughter. Britta's strength potion - oh my gosh. And the opening scene in the game with the spider-hippies "violating" and killing Jeff, and Jeff's anger at that...I could not stop laughing.
A general rule of Community should be to pause if there's anything written on the screen in a scene. When Gilbert gave himself all the powers, one of them was "testicular fortitude"...I almost died.
The character development was also awesome. That's definitely a Piercinald Hawthorne that we've never seen before. I loved it. Great episode.
@AlexRoggio - The reviewer is right. The whole point is that Britta is such a tool that she doesn't realize that the "X-Men" is a GROUP of superheroes.
Only the most devout comic book fans (and certainly not Britta) would know that there's actually an Marvel character named X-Man.
@RajBauer - Yep, I'm aware of Chevy's rep. I think the last "blow-out" that Chase and Harmon had stemmed from Chase walking off set because he didn't like the script or something.
The whole mitosis thing...there was an episode of Sabrina The Teenage Witch where her boyfriend spent an entire episode trying to memorize what mitosis is. Wonder if that was an homage/parody/reference to that...
This was a perfect review - you pretty much nailed it.
Question though; are you going to review the previous two episodes as well? Because I honestly think it's worth mentioning that Piercinald Hawthorne grew more in these three episodes than the entire three seasons combined. Accepting a black brother and giving up his fortune to someone more deserving in Digital Estate Planning. Going along with Jeff's plan even though it meant he wasn't the star in Chang Dynasty. Everything you mentioned in this episode.
After watching these three episodes, I can't for the life of me figure out what Chevy's issues are with his character. Pierce honestly has never been written better.
@Nick - A little healthy debate never hurt anyone. It's one of the reasons I enjoy your reviews and this site in general; it seems to be one of the last places left on the internet where people can actually discuss television and have differing opinions without getting petty.
