Couple 3, Santana and Britney
Another sad break up but again, I can relate. Even when you really love someone, its tough to be young and attached. Santana clearly wants her freedom to explore. Its what college is for. She made the mature but painful choice. I respect that. I had to do that with my high school sweetheart when we went our separate ways, its turned out for the best.
Couple 2, Rachel and Finn.
What Finn did to Rachel was not cool. He NEVER let her make a decision for herself in that relationship. He abandoned her at the bus station, which was heroic in its own way but it's what I call "benevolent control issues". You want to do the right thing for the one you love but you do it in a way that leaves them without much say in the matter. Rachel was grateful but then he disappears for 4 months. Then re-apears without telling her anything, then disappears again. And he knows he's wrong and needs to get a grip. It was painful to watch (props to both actors) yet you can tell they both thought it was right in the end.
Btw, bet you all 5 bucks Finn decides to be a teacher by the end of this season.
All those couples needed to break up.
High school sweethearts RARELY make it, at least not all the way through. Its because college and work takes us all to different places both physically and emotionally.
First Couple, Blaine and Kurt.
As someone who recently had to let my boyfriend go so he could be in his dream acting school and have very little time for our relationship, I understand what Blaine is going through. The key to not going crazy is to trust they love you and keep busy. Its important to have a dream of your own and know that missing them is temporary, that when you see them again it'll all feel better and you'll have loads to talk about. But I'm older, 21 and I dont think I would have been able to do it at 18 the way they tried to. Even those few years make a big difference.
If Ted and Victoria had broken up last episode, it would have been predicable because we know that she's not the mother. Those two need to be last, that way we see what Ted gives up in order to take a risk on this other woman. If he doesn't have any stakes in his relationship with Victoria, where's the drama?
Klaus wasn't funny, I know native Germans who don't speak or act like he does. The stereotype is overused and annoying.
Nick is boring. Hope he goes next. Robin is too awesome for a dumb boyfriend. At least the last ones were either cool or had some interesting quirks.
I too feel like this episode wasn't the strongest but I do think that Quinn and Barney breaking up made sense.
They've never dealt with the fact that Quinn manipulated Barney or that Barney has serious issues remaining faithful, which are two deal breakers. I wasn't expecting it to happen so fast but the conclusion, if not the lead up, was realistic in my mind. They don't trust each other. Great acting on that final scene between those two. There are plenty of couples who jump on the wedding wagon without really thinking about it. I had a similar thing happen with my last boyfriend. Sometimes you just snap back to reality. I do like that Barney didn't cheat on Quinn with Robin, that would have ruined the season because I wouldn't have been able to get behind them as a couple.
Megan didn't really irritate me this episode. I actually don't think she was selfish. Don drops everything for his career, why can't Megan do the same thing? Why should Megan be responsible for his kids if he won't be? She had something important on Monday morning too. Sally was old enough to be on her own, its not Megan's fault she ran off. Betty is home full time, that's why she takes the kids. Yet every time we turn around she's dumping them on Don and Megan because Sally is too old to put up with her head games. I am a Betty fan but even I know she's not the best mother. When you don't know how to hug your own child, you know something's weird. She was raised to be cold, so she is. Sally and Betty love each other but there was bound to be difficulties, Sally is a lot like Don.
Ah mothers, love 'em or hate 'em we always seem to run home to their arms. I loved that Sally and Glen got to hang out this episode. They had a moment where they were so happy, only to have it taken from them by Mother Nature.
Poor Lane indeed. That entire scene was gut wrenching. I thought that he was going to give up after the Jaguar incident too.
I was thankful that they did his makeup to be realistic, most people seem to think that hanging yourself isn't as frightening as other suicides but there really is no pretty way to die. Mad Men is very good at shattering illusions.
I don't think Don is to blame. Lane did steal from the company. His partners would have lent him the money because they understood that he was fundamental in making SCDP to begin with. They might have grumbled a bit but they would have quietly helped him. In the end, he didn't trust anyone. Its sad, because he was so great. He was really smart and could have been very successful at a different firm if he had taken Don's way out. But the idea of losing something he'd worked so hard for, just finished him. He'd been under so much pressure that this was just the final blow for a very desperate and ultimately, lonely man. Rest in peace, Lane Pryce. I for one was always a fan.
Oh and I just want to say, Mamie Gummer is great I've seen her in other stuff but this Emily Owens thing looks beneath her but hey, if your Merryl Streep's daughter, you have a lot to live up to.
CW is smart, they know who their market is. They don't pay those researchers for nothin'.
Emily Owens is to play off the Grey's An. fans and those that find awkwardness attractive/endearing.
Carrie Dairies is for the die hard Sex in the City fans and they get away with it because Anna-Sophia Robb is such a cutie.
Arrow is for those that liked Smallville and trying to grasp a little of the Avenger's fandom.
Cult is the thriller/ attempt at mind fuck.
Beauty and the Beast for the Twihard fans who enjoy watching fanged men push girls out of the way of moving transportation devices. Except, they've done one better, they've up-ed the attractiveness of the leads and threw in a classic Disney favorite for the basic concept.
Now are any of these concepts original? God no but they are marketable.
