@Guest--I ignored it because I'd rather this comment section not devolve into a discussion of the offensive nature of that word. Yes, it's offensive. No, I don't condone the show's use of that word. Nor will I ever.
@Keith--I did notice that the opening credits were different yesterday and didn't queue up a previous episode on the DVR to see if that's a new change for last night or if that changed earlier this season. I think the reason that Zack's focus never bothered me is that he was a regular from the beginning of the show and he was intricately involved in the Gormogon case. And I do like Sweets. I do. But a focus on his love life is not using him in a way that suits the character, IMO.
Such a good episode. Season 4 is bringing it! To your point about Elena turning to Damon for help instead of Stefan, she can't turn to Stefan. Stefan can't teach her how to enjoy being a vampire because human blood does bad things to him and Elena can't survive, apparently, without drinking straight from the tap. Caroline can't teach her because Caroline drinks from blood bags. Rebekah's a bitch, and Klaus can't be trusted. So yes, her turning to Damon is a way to prolong the triangle, but it also makes sense in the context of what's been written so far. He's the only vampire we've got right now who is able to control himself when it comes to blood.
@T--I do *like* Tyra, and I think the character has potential. I just don't really care for how they're using her so far. Hopefully that will change as the season progresses. Cassandra, however, can transfer to another hospital.
@Lyla--I think you're on to something RE Emily/Will. She kind of idolizes him in a way that I think a lot of girls do in high school. He's cute, funny, friendly, and so she thinks there should be more when she can't see the better choice staring at her. It plays into the theme of the show.
@Mrs. M--I know that Pindari said it was her first week, so perhaps not the second day, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds his feelings forced too quickly.
@Delilah, jealousy can be abusive, and Fitz? He uses his jealousy in a way that isn't healthy. He treats Olivia like his property which is why I was excited that she stood up to him with her "you don't own me" lines. The way he talked to her about her previous relationship was disrespectful and yes, degrading, because it's being used to make her feel dirty and ashamed. I don't like it. We're obviously free to interpret this differently, but that's how I see it.
1. All of them? Seriously. Start to finish. But probably the scene in the church where the vampires were all communicating unbeknownst to those around them. Or Damon in the graveyard talking to Alaric.
2. I said it in the comments on the review. Connor is a BAMF. Klaus as a villain was always lame because he's so damned whiney. Connor's a villain I can sink my teeth into. (Vampire joke! I slay me.)
3. In the context of a love triangle, sure, because that scene was somehow hotter than the wood "sex" scene, you know, what with the abrupt barfing of blood and all. (Did anyone else think Elena had gotten motion sick from all the fast moving?)
4. Matt AND Tyler. I really can't pick the bigger hero between the two of them. Slowly, Matt's becoming a character with a story beyond "woe is me."
5. Caroline's dad because I love Jack Coleman. Or Grams because poor lonely Bonnie.
@Janey, I agree about David and Alissa's scenes! They were much needed to balance an otherwise heavy episode.
@Simone, Yes, she loves him and she'll keep getting pulled back in, but he was incredibly out of line and has shown himself to be borderline verbally abusive to the women in his life two times now. If he keeps that up and she doesn't at least TRY to stand up to him? She won't be a strong female character that I can respect.
1. Connor is a BAMF.
2. So is Tyler.
3. I loved how they all helped Elena in different ways. They all taught her something.
4. ALARIC SALTZMAN.
5. I feel more sad for Damon than I felt for the rest of the gang combined.
6. The length of Jeremy's list made me laugh. I expected him to start counting on his fingers and then move on to his toes.
7. It was SO REFRESHING to have an episode sans any Originals.
@stateless, Darren Criss said in an interview that the script was purposefully vague about Blaine's "cheating," so I won't be surprised if this is a case like you said. He went to see Eli C. and considered the fact that he thought about cheating actual cheating. We'll see when the show returns.
RE Grease, Danny changed, too. He became a Varsity athlete in track because that's what he thought Sandy wanted. So, IMO, they're doing this musical because it's set to a high school backdrop and not because it has great life lessons, no matter what Finn said.
Hey, y'all. Simmer down. In the day of autocorrect, the name thing is an obvious mistake. And if you have to lash out at people, lash out at me for not seeing and fixing it before this was published.
I almost wrote in my review that I want to get back to the point where everyone pools their collective strengths to help solve the case and realized that would be confusing. We got that in this episode but with our cast serving as caricatures of themselves instead of actual fleshed-out, well-written characters like in seasons past.
Like Iain, I dislike that so far two of the four episodes have focused on a supporting character. And I actually LIKE Sweets. But this is a show about Booth and Bones and needs to get back to that.
Thanks @Charmed-Jenna. I realize that I was unclear in my review and tried to rectify it. But, I guess I'll just continue to be vilified instead. Oh well.
And also, there needs to be a conversation between them where they actually discuss things--everything--even if they are truly broken up. In fact, especially if they are broken up, which really leads me to believe they aren't. Not yet at least. They used to be the "model" couple, being mature about things an talking things through. This all just feels poorly done for both characters.
In short, I think the show did a poor job of making Kurt sympathetic after last week and the setup for Blaine as a cheater wasn't good either. I dislike, greatly, that we've seen an episode where Kurt disregards Blaine not just at work but also at home which does NOT make Kurt sympathetic (but doesn't excuse cheating) and we've seen nothing aside from the single flirtation that led to Blaine's cheating to persuade us that cheating is something he'd do. That their relationship would end like this feels wrong for both characters.
I'm saying this here in the comments when perhaps I should edit the review, but I realize regarding the Kurt/Blaine breakup I failed to make my point. I have a hard time understanding BOTH sides of the breakup and the cheating angle was used solely as an out for their breakup without forcing the two to have a serious conversation about why their relationship wasn't working. I don't mean to BLAME Kurt for Blaine's cheating; nor do I excuse Blaine's cheating. (Cont.)
Blaine didn't emotionally cheat with Sebastian. Blaine was always very up front with Sebastian that he had a boyfriend. Kurt, however, had an emotional dalliance with Chandler, the kid from the music store, and Blaine confronted Kurt about how the texting hurt him. Neither of them is perfect though it can be argued that Blaine's physical infidelity was worse than Kurt's emotional cheating.
@Connie--Yes, I watched. Twice. And the culmination of the past two episodes is that Kurt doesn't have time for Blaine and Blaine is lonely and misses his boyfriend. Yes, Kurt called Blaine from work, but ALL of last week's episode was devoted to showing how lonely Blaine is, so my commentary isn't a stretch. And I clearly said infidelity is inexcusable.
@Jessica--I didn't see anything definite either, so I'm hopeful that there's a reconciliation in the works for the two of them in upcoming episodes.
Do you know what the absolute best moment of the show was for me? When Dexter uttered the word "yes" to Deb's question and Michael C. Hall managed to show relief with his eyes. His eyebrows fluttered up just a little and there was something like freedom in his eyes. It was amazing.
(My gripe for the episode? HOW IN THE HELL is there NOT a CAMERA in the unclaimed baggage room!?!? With security in airports being what it is, HOW WAS THAT KILL EVEN POSSIBLE?)
@Rain--the "white hat" symbolism has been used in relation to both David and Olivia. If you're referring to the conversation Quinn had with Amanda Tanner where she regained Tanner's trust, I'd say Quinn said Olivia rescued her because before working for Olivia, Quinn felt lost. She thought at that point that Olivia saved her from that but didn't yet know that Olivia orchestrated her move to D.C. and still doesn't know it. Should be interesting when she finds out, though.
