Great. Another chick nobody will care about.
Camille sounds like Elena No2 and that's NOT a good thing...
On to more practical subjects, the existense of the two similar shows is very likely to cause a split in ratings. When you remove a fan favorite aspect from a show, the people who watched for that aspect (here, Original fans) are likely to leave, too. But these people won't be enough to make the new show a hit and the only thing that will get accomplished is that TVD's ratings will get hurt. Conclusion: the CW will have sabotaged a long-time successful show without even managing to create a new hit. Why can't the network's execs see this trap is beyond me...
And I agree with Matt's point that Plec's involvement in BOTH shows can only cause problems. She's already struggling with TVD, how is she going to deal with another task like that?
"A desperate attempt by the network to milk one of its only hits dry" is a very accurate description of what the CW is trying to do with this spinoff idea. They've tried to pair TVD with various shows on Thursday nights (Nikita, The Secret Circle, Beauty and the Beast) but nothing worked rating-wise. So why not add another hour of TVD? It's risky and it's desperate, but it's also a pretty obvious move.
The truth is I love me some Originals, but after two seasons they have become an integral part of TVD and I can't imagine how their removal from the story can be smooth as it should be. Also, a big part of why they are popular with the fans is their interaction with TVD's other characters. Removing that part of their appeal could be tricky.
P.S. Matt, I don't understand how you cannot accept that someone who has lived 1000 years (a very messed up 1000 years if I may add) can have both sensitivities and murderous tendencies. That's the beauty of the character tbh.
