What a complete load of rubbish that finale turned out to be. AWM/TEM, hang your heads in shame, you have just ruined 6 seasons of the greatest TV show ever to leave the USA, and for what? A stupid story that destroys Becket's past and a complete nonsense of a cliffhanger. Sadly, it was so, so predictable, AWM cannot write a long sweeping love story to save his life, simply appalling. I see AWM in his latest interview, wants the fans to trust him in S7, he will be lucky to have any fans left!, and those that are, simply will not trust him, I know I won't. I have said it before, and I will say it again, this is all about advertising revenue for ABC in S7, this is cynical TV at it's worst! I just hope that Stana's silence over the past month, is a sign that she disapproves of this development. Season 6 has been the worst season so far, IMHO, topped off with total rubbish. To say I'm disappointed with this episode, is an understatement, I am angered by it. This is being consigned to the never to be watched again, along with TS&TQ.
The best episode for a very long time, and certainly the best of Season 6, and the common denominator, is TPW, the best writer of them all, IMO. I thought this was a great way to conclude the Bracken arc for now, I'm sure this story is not over with yet. Perhaps now, we will no longer see Kate promising Castle not to go it alone, then doing precisely that, surely, that particular character flaw has got to end now. There was just one small niggle for me, where was her engagement ring, it is supposed to be next to her Mother's ring on the chain, when she is not wearing it on her finger, and it wasn't! Having seen the promo for the season finale, I just hope that AWM/TEM aren't that stupid, Caskett need an uninterrupted wedding, as do the fans.
My Aussie friend, I thought the 70's was dire, quite why we had to wait a month for that is beyond me. I am of similar vintage to you, and I agree, this was written by someone who did not have a clue about the era at all. Can someone tell me why Alexis was even in the episode, what purpose/role did she serve? Finally, what was the point of Beckett dressing up for the disco, wearing costume jewellery on her right hand and NO engagement ring on her left, this was very very poor IMHO. This episode is on the pile of never to be watched again. One bright note, the remaining three episodes cannot be any worse, can they!!!
Hi Tonya, Good to hear from you again. I share your view regarding the Season finale, AWM hasn't got a clue about writing a long sweeping love story, there will be angst for sure, and it will again be about Beckett's insecurities. This theme is way past it's sell by date, all I hope is that TEM has got some control over AWM, but I doubt it. Once again, I'm preparing for AWM to screw up the best TV show to come out of the USA for decades, if not, ever.
I thought this was an average episode, and a pretty unlikely story. Personally, I think the writers missed a great opportunity for some great Castle words to Beckett, over her worry about a boring marriage, and all we got was we will put something in our wedding vows, seriously!! Let's hope things improve quickly before the end of S6.
I share your concern, AWM seems unable to write any episode that resembles anything remotely like "a long sweeping love story", all his episodes seem to me like a homage to Stana, let's hope TEM really does have some influence on this one. I too think that TPW should write this one, if indeed, it is the wedding episode, which seriously doubt now.
Sadly, Stana's reasoning regarding the engagement, do not bear much scrutiny. I have no issue with not wearing it at work, but surely, the family Thanksgiving dinner is a private moment. Kate went to all the trouble of getting dressed up in her costume, even bought Rick his costume, but failed to wear her engagement ring, just look when she high fives Martha, no ring. If a Thanksgiving dinner with your fiancé, Father, future Mother and Daughter-in-laws, is not a private moment, I do not know what constitutes one! Someone within the Castle team hierarchy needs to get their stories right!
Ep 6:17 had the lowest viewers for the entire season, perhaps AWM might need to reconsider where he is taking this alleged "long sweeping love story". Might I suggest that he actually brings to a conclusion one of the long running sagas, ie, Tyson or Bracken, and gets Caskett married asap. The viewer ratings seem to show that the fans are getting bored with the show whilst it continues to ramble along resolving nothing. S7 might not be the sure thing everybody thinks it is!
Nottrampis. I was not going to call this episode a joke, more a complete and utter anticlimax! I agree with your view about Capt Gates, she should have kicked the Narcotics guy out of her precinct, he had clearly done no homework at all, and for Beckett to agree to go undercover with just two hours notice is simply crap story telling. This story had more holes in it than a fishing net. In addition to the. Points you make, why didn't Simmonds kill Beckett in the basement then dump her body, then clean the place up? I thought the beginning, letter scene and end scene with caskett were well done, but the rest, totally forgettable. Although Stana's performance was excellent, IMO, her performance in Kill shot was much better. I wonder if AWM will now give NF the opportunity to show off his considerable acting skills, but somehow, I doubt it!! One last irritation, who is the moron at ABC, who put together the promo for 6:18? After the so-called heroics of Beckett in 6:17, Castle is apparently being shown as a clown again in the next episode, this is so predictable it is beyond a joke now.
I thought that this was one of the better cases of late, and a better episode than I was anticipating, considering the writers previous effort, TS&TQ! Much less Caskett this week, but that was to be expected after the last couple of episodes. I too, am not too happy to see Alexis back at the loft, it seems to me that AWM has let her character off lightly for her appalling behaviour towards Caskett earlier in the season. It would have been much more realistic for Castle to have given Alexis some tough love, and made her earn it, but we are talking Marlowe here, who never makes Castle out to be anything other than a soft touch. Is it just me, but I find it surprising, that when AWM gives a TV interview, he is NEVER quizzed about the fans reaction to TSQ&TQ, especially the kiss scene, Kate's behaviour in the final 3 eps of S5, why we didn't get to see Espo, Ryan and Lanie's reaction to her leaving, and why we never get to see the engagement ring, and considering how big the ring Kate was wearing in this episode, it cannot be a size thing!
