Yes he should be fired! There would be have been much more action taken if T.R. Knight had uttered the N word. When the show first began Dr. Burke was one of my favorite characters but now I change the channel when he comes on the screen or sometimes choose in protest to even not watch the show. It is not fair to the incrediable cast of the show to loose fans because you have one ignorent person who still acts like he is in grade school. I feel he should have to publicly aplogize to T.R however that is just not enough. Grey's Anatomy has such a diverse cast with many main roles going to those of different races. Mr. Washington is underminding all the great aspects of the show, with his ignorence. And to prove the fact that he has not learned what he said was hurtful and damaging he uttered it again at the golden globes. If do to the conflict T.R. leaves the show I can tell you the show will suffer gravley. T.R. is an incredable asset to the show and I am rutting for him more now than ever. Mr. Washington must be made to understnad this type of hateful actions will not be accepted by ABC, the show creators cast and the world. I am sorry he needs to be fired!
Washington is a wonderful actor with incredible range, unfortunately he like many other African American actors seem to get very little work. This recent scandal involving the F word is sad. I believe the first incident deserved an apology, however the second did not. He simply answered a question. As a black woman I too understand that words are powerful and can cause harm, however as a culture we are far too sensitive and way too politically correct. It's a word an it's used often and to completely condemn a person and call it something that it isn't is terrible. I.W. keep your head up and continue to represent us wonderfully.
Wow. I cannot believe some of the comments being made here. Kelly, that was completely inappropriate and uncalled for, and I honestly hope your comment gets removed for offensive language. I think that IW needs to be reprimanded in some way. In most work places, references (especially derogatory slurs) are considered sexual harassment, and are a fireable offense. In my workplace, anyone calling a coworker that would immediately be fired. It's happened before. And frankly, I find it disturbing for people to place blame on TR Knight for this. The only person that can be held accountable for IW's comments are IW himself. The issue is obviously in the media, and TR has obviously struggled to deal with his private life being made public. And to those who claim that using a slur does not make you a bigot, I beg to differ. One does not throw that word around as casually as IW does and not be comfortable and secure in its meaning. Its not a "slang term" or a mean name like stupidhead, it is a disparaging slur against who a person is and is used to bring them down. Its no better or worse than any of the other horrible slurs one can think of. And sorry, but not all of us say stuff like that in moments of anger. That does not make it okay.
I absolutely love every last one of the actors/actresses of Grey's, and I would hate to see any of them leave.
I do not think Isaiah should be fired. He apologized. Let it go! I guess I am ignorant where these things are concerned. Please correct me if I am wrong, but if TR is a gay man...what about that word affends him? I agree he should not have been called that if it is meant to affend.
This is in reference to Darren Stergen. What exactly do you mean by your comment. I hope it isn't a racial slur because if it is, I'd like to remind you that Washington graduated from college and was working as an aerospace engineer. He later went back to school to study theatre. The man is obviously intelligent and quite eloquent. I don't know what you have to recommend yourself but I'm sure your resume doesn't come close to that of Mr. Washington. Were I you, I'd immediately post an apology and pray to God that no one finds out what a racist degenerate you are. It disgusts me to even write this in respons to your nasty comment. It is a shame that after all these years there are still people like you around. Civilized human beings don't want your kind around. Go back to the back woods, sister banging, little podunk town where you white-sheet wearing little Nazis belong. Black people are as intelligent and whites, may I remind you of Collin Powell, Condoliza Rice, Borock Ubama, Martin Luther King, Oprah Winfrey(who conicidentally the richest woman in the world, followed by the Harry Potter author who preceeds Martha Stuart) and a host of intelligent black people who aren't celebrities. Get a life, you pissant!!!!!!!!
This show, writers, directors, actors are all hypocrits in regards to professing anger against using slurs to describe a set of people, beliefs, etc. In the 5/7/06 episode, "Synopsis", "Dr Bailey", played by Chandra Wilson, a black woman, refers to an family coming into the ER as the "hick show", hillbillies, etc simply because they are from the south. This was spewed by Wilson, as Dr Bailey, with venom and disgust at the thought of having to treat a southern family. The southern family was portrayed, AS USUAL, as loud, ignorant, red necks, with poor manners and grammar. The actors portraying this family, AS USUAL, over-emoted with the over-done thick accents, mannerisms, etc., all at the behest of the writers, director, etc. While everyone on the set is crying about Isaiah Washington using a slur, I don't hear any outcry for the degredation, on a daily basis, for the disgusting language used to describe people from Appalachia, southern states, etc. They are the last group of people that can still be belittled in public and on the airwaves, with no repercussions for the perpetrators. I guess we haven't met the PC threshhold yet. Even in the description of the episode on the official Greys Anatomy, the family was described as a loud, Southern family, as if capitalizing the word "southern", would emphasize the disgust felt toward this group of people. The line was delivered in the episode by a "black woman", or should I use the "N" word? NO? There is no excuse for this phony outrage from the show or the actors as long as the writers, directors, AND actors have no qualms in humiliating, slandering, or belittling another set of people in their race for ratings. Horray for Hollywierd!
Michael Richard called people the N word in obvious anger and malice the next day he was back at the laugh factory performing. and what he did was much worse in my opinion. he made his apology and made his peace with the folks that were there and today he's still performing at the same place. I don't see the folks he angered still calling for his job since the apology. Isaiah deserves to earn a living just as much.
It's a real shame if Isaiah did call TR out of his name. I would really hate to see Isaiah leave. He apologized, and I believe we should let it go. I enjoy both actors. I think who ever came up with the petition to have Isaiah fired need to get a life. We all have disagreements, and say things we do not mean or should not say.
Okay, who cares whether or not Washington used the f word. Show me one person who hasn't used it in their entire life and I'll show you a liar. Whether or not Washington used the word intentionally or not, it's over. Get over it. Why would you stop watching the show just because of that??? If you want something to petition and get rowdy about, why don't you petition for the right for homosexuals to marry in all states, the right for them to legally adopt and for them to be recognized as life partners with the right to be on their partners medical insurance policy??? How comes I haven't heard people making such a big huballo over the guy who played Kramer who said such nasty things about black people??? why aren't ya'll black balling him and demanding his blood? If Washington said the f word, he's obviously repented and just wants to get over it himself. I've said some mean and hurtful things in my life, and I've regretted it alot. The good thing is that, I'm not a celebrity and a couple million eyes aren't watching me, therefore my mistakes were easily overlooked. There's a saying, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I guess all you people who are demanding Washington's blood are as lilly white and pure as the driven snow.
