We're Not in Kansas Anymore

I loved the first episode. I'm definitely excited to watch the rest, find out who's Sam's Dad, who Harry's son is... great first episode!
It also did a great job paying hommage to the first series. Like Hannah Zuckerman-Velaquez, Nat still working the Peach Pit... I was also surprised they included Erin Silver in this, so we have at least one relation from the old cast in the new cast. :)

I've been really excited for the new 90210, but, seriously, the premiere sucked big time! All this talk about it not being cheesy like the last one, but it was still definitely cheesy. It was way over-acted in parts and the scenes played like they were for someone who could only pay attention for 2 seconds. Shenae Grimes needs to speak up and enunciate her lines more - it was hard to hear her and some of the other characters. Nat's character looks ridiculous and acted like a buffoon. It's stupid that Ryan Eggold's character was hanging out at 'The Pitt' - what a loser. The music was good, that's about it. The O.C. was from the same genre of shows and it was way better. I really wanted to like it, but it's just so bad.

The show was completely insulting to old fans. So all of a sudden we see Hannah? Last we heard, they were living around New Haven because Andrea was going to try Yale finally. We can't just have Hannah back in LA without explaining where Andrea and Jesse are. It just doesn't make sense. And they probably thought they were throwing us a bone but it wasn't worth it.It was good that they provided details on how Kelly ended up a guidance counselor. But they completely failed to mention her PR business that she started in the series finale. Do we just pretend that didn't exist?Weird that they mentioned another male principal before Harry. What ever happened to Mrs. Teasley? Even after high school, we still saw her, even in the series finale. In season 10, Jackie and Mel were separating after the whole strip club fiasco with Gina. So we're supposed believe they got back together again and then split AGAIN to make Silver's story about Naiomi be true? And that's why Jackie is back on drugs after 18 years of being sober? And Palisades definitely wasn't West Bev's rival back in the original.A reunion with Brenda and Kelly without mentioning their old friends? Kind of weird.I'm dying to know what Rob Thomas' original pilot was, since they've said it's so different from this one. Here's hoping the pace slows down, the stories get more accurate, we get Dixon's adoption back story, find out why in hell the Peach Pit changed styles, and some answers regarding Sammy's dad and how/why Brenda and Kelly saw each other years ago.

I definately enjoyed the first episode! I think that as the stories, and chartacters unfold it will become more addictive. I like all the new characters and I am thilled that "Kelly Taylor" is back, even with her little sis, "Silver". Annie is a doll and I can't wait to see what happens between her and Ethan and Ty. Maybe Annie brings out the good in Ethan. As far as Harry, I wonder who his son will turn out to be. All around I was pleased with the show, and will be looking forward to my Tuesday night's again!! :]

As a very dedicated fan to 90210, i of course watched the new 90210 premier last night. I have to say that it was not as bad as i thought it would. but coming form the generation of the original i have my thoughts on this new cast and the storylines. Its great to have Kelly and Brenda back on the show. However they left out alot of their characters. Where has Brenda been, why did they see each other when Kelly had Sam? And where did Hannah Zuckerman come from and why was she not showcased in the episode? Its hard to have these characters come back to the show because the original fans will want the back story. The dedicated fans want to know what happened to their favorite characters, even to this day we want to know that Donna and David acutally made it work and that Kelly had actually decided between Dylan and Brandon. It will be difficult i think to fullfill original fans expectations of the show if these things are not talked about. Characters mentioned should come back at least for a cameo so that story lines can mesh well. Because original fans will want to know this and since there are characters that said they will not come back , maybe it would have been better to leave original characters out all together. The lines between the old and the new will be difficult to balance. I also think the new characters are much more shady and evil than the original. What i liked most about 90210 the original was that no matter what they made it through as a group, and they genuinely seemed to care about each other. This cast, i am not so sure that will be the case. it almost seems a little too daytime tv for me. However i did watch the whole two hours and was pleasantly suprised with it in the end, although the before school in the car parking lot scene was a little too much i think. the soundtrack is great, the new characters are definately their own and there is a lot of room for some awesome story lines, it will be interesting to see how it all works out Old fans i think will need to give it time, but if they leave us wanting the show will probably fold.

I have been a fan since DAY ONE of the original series and I LOVED the show last night. I loved how they threw in stuff about Andrea's daughter and Brandon and such. I LOVED IT! I just wish they would spin off into more stories with the old characters, but you never know, if the show continues to do well then maybe we will get to see it!

I very much agree with Andie's comment. Wow, I was kinda dissapointed in the first hour of the show. Even the theme intro, I was expecting to see the actor's names on the screen, but sadly we didn't get it. And it was too short. They probably couldn't play the same theme song as the previous show, which is understandable, but let's wait till next week to see a "regular" show. I guess they can't tell us EVERYTHING and where is EVERYONE, I for one am GLAD that they had the character of Hannah. Remember Andrea used to live outside the district with her grandma, maybe she wanted Hannah to have the same education she had, therefore sending her to Beverly Hills. It was SO great to see Brenda, but I'm not surprised, Shannen Doherty probably doesn't have any job at the moment, so 4 episodes for her is good. Kelly was awesome too, and I just wrote a post about Sam's father. I still think it's Dylan, due to Brandon and her not getting married cause they only loved each other like "brother and sister." Erin was phenomenal.. acting like Kelly did in the early 90's! Love the new characters as well. I wish Maddie (Steve's daughter) and Frankie (Nat's son) would be there too. They could Rapidly Age Syndrom or whatever they call it. It would have been awesome have them mixed with the new ones. I'm a HUGE fan of the first show, watched it for 10 years, and will still be devoted to watch the new series as well!

I LOVED the new show. I can't wait to see more. I am an original fan from the 90's. I'm actually the same age as Kelly & Brenda were supposed to be. I graduated in 1993 just like they did. There are some inconsistensies but this is the world of television. I cannot wait to see next week's episode. I have DVRd the entire series. I hope that Sam's father turns out to be Brandon. I'd love to see Brandon come back. But than again it might be nice if it was Dylan and we could see Brenda & Kelly go at it again. I'm just happy they left Tori Spelling out...she didn't have the best acting skills and her characther Donna Martin was so critical and jugdemental it used to annoy me till no end - I used to change the channel if she had too much screen time on the episode. I think they could've done without brining Nat back...but hey he has a small part. I'm curious to see if Gabrielle Carteris is coming back now that we see Hannah. Bring back Steve too...it'd be nice to know what happened to all the characters while sparing us of Tori's acting inabilities. I love her show Tori & Dean but that's about as much as I want to see of Tori Spelling on TV b/c a good actress she is not.
Overall I think it was a great first episode and I'm excited to see more.

Does anyone know the song that is playing in the first episode when Naomi walks up to Ethan and hits him?

Does anyone else think the Refer-a-Friend bonuses being given out are (in-part) a means to get low level players leveled up in time for WotLK? Get them into the fray, more addicted and increasing the longevity of their subscription? ;)Posted 10/5/2008 7:51:46 PM #
