TVD is achieving exactly what they want too. Its not just a bunch of nonsensical plots meant to reduce people to OMFG looks. There is an endgame (plotwise, not in terms of couples) in mind. And despite it being a plot-based show, there is character driven stuff. Which I appreciate.
I still think you were watching a different show if you did not see the whole thing about the witches, Esther, bloodlines and ect last season and the whole Silas and sire bond stuff this season as NON-sensical plots. As for the character-driven stuff....please explain that, cos yeah, again to whom exactly are you refering from the character list?
GG had no commitment to writing. No consistency. And not a single character showed growth, in any magnitude.
True BUT I think after s2 it wasn't about the writing anymore...anyway, my main point is, that even without the quality writing there were still so many reasons to watch GG - I for one along with sister and other people watched for the fashion....others tuned in just for the music..others because they liked the different locations where they shot scenes....or great parties they went to...What has TVD to offer except the doomed pseudo-triangles and man candy? NOTHING. Because now when TVD goes off air what will peopl remember it by? Oh just some vampire show that started out well and ended badly. Oh and there was shitty love triangle between a brainless chick and two psycho murderers. GG left some cultural significance for teens - girls dressed like Blair and Serena, it introduced a lot of bands and had many appear on the show, the OMFG posters, the promos they did, even quotes - I can name many good quotes from s1 and s2 by Blair, Chuck and even Dan....TVD for me will leave nothing except a painful memory of how good the books were and how the show did not live up to those standards.
To be honest i'd take the bad writing of GG over the bad writing of TVD anyday of the week. They are both HORRENDOUSLY BAD!!! However, watching Chuck and Blair beat watching anyone on TVD cast, Caroline and Klaus included. The storylines of GG were a lot more scandalously fabulous (up until season 4) than TVD up until now.

As for Chair, um hello first of all they were a REAL couple, Caroline and Klaus are not a real couple.....is still just a pairing that is only teased to maybe happen but honoestly probably never will. Until what happened with the hotel trade and then the punch, Chair was great....but then again Klaus already threatened Caroline's life twice by making Tyler bite her and then biting her himself....don';t know how you can call him a man after that.
nothing is worse than GG. Every season following the first seemed like a repeat. Honestly, TVD is much better than that shit.
Well, then you must have been watching a different TVD than I since ever since s1 the show has followed the same formula of there is a general sl centered on Elena, there is a new big bad which after a few episodes starts looking like not the real bad after all since there is someone more "evil" on the way...nothing new on Bonnie or Matt, Tyler and Caroline play some little part in everything that is happening....meanwhile for 2 seasons all we see is the "EVerything for St. Elena"campaign with a few bones being thrown at DE fans while keeping the audience under the pretence of a "serious" love triangle happening...and this is all that actually has happened on TVD in the past 3 seasons just with the number of characters dying increasing. Sorry, but no, GG while going off track in s3, at least attempted to have a better s4 with almost every character having a sl of their own, and at least every season was somehow different from the other...I am not saying the characters evolved or what so ever but the main plot varied some how.
As for what the writers are doing right if we still tune it, well, honestly I tune in just to see how much more ridiculous the story can get, not because I expect the writers to show me something new cos since s2 they have failed at that.
Like I think Stefan is a boring character but PW is decent. I'm no way biased like BN. Of course the actor does affect how much you like the character.
They are ALL boring at this point..altho I was happy to see Stefan steping back from the "All in the Name of Elena" campaign when he told her she does not know what he looks like when he is not in love with her...but of coarse since this show is written by JP, the next episode or two he was already back being the all supportive and let's be friends Stefan..God, I wanted to cut that biatch! As for PW, well, what can you say of coarse the work the actor puts into the character is crucial no matter how shitty the script may be..however I think on a show thats called the Vampire Diaries, I think everyone stopped trying after season 1...Ian resorts to monkey eye-acting, and Paul when forced to play douche Stefan again seems more bored than usual, Nina I won't even discuss since yeah, I was kind over her acting abilities after s2 since clearly she is only good at being a bored Mary Sue and plot device Kat. Altho I did enjoy PW back in s3 especially in The End of The Affair with the 1920's flashback, to me he did those episodes really well.
Gosh, sometimes i fin dit so hard to believe that I am still watching TVFD and this is their 4th season already and it feels like nothing has progressed anywhere....and it makes even GG look way better in comparison with their s4.
