     but I feel like the whole news guarantees that they'll all be trolling in season 5 if their show won't pick up.

     if it was another show, I would think the spin-off news means the originals will be written off the show and won't come back either way, but with TVD I can already see them retconning themselves in case the spin-off won't pick up.
