Hell, the whole "flashback" is fun of anachronisms like Klaus using word FUN, which WAS NOT INVENted or even commonly known till shakespearean times.
Don't bother with the language mess. It makes no sense. Having the Originals speak English I understand - can't ask Jomo, Daniel, Claire,Sebastian Roche and what's-her-name Alice to learn perfect Norse overnight, but their language in the flashbacks was WAY too modern. 'Relax, dad, we were just having fun.' It's insulting our intelligence.
If Elijah can speak like a proper, old-timey gentleman in modern times, why couldn't his siblings speak properly in ancient times? (Don't even get me started on Kol, who'd been dead for 100+ and yet somehow took less than a week or so to learn all the slang. AND FINN)
Show does not seem to know on if they are alive or dead. One Season someone implies that vampire hearts do not beat, the other that they do , for example.
I think that they do. In 2x19 Elena is about to check Elijah's pulse.(girl. he's grey, dead and not moving. guy goes not have a pulse!)
Right, back to topic.. which is plotholes...
Am I the only one still gnawing my teeth together at Esther being such a bad mum she can't even spell her kids' names? Gods, if the writers can't even google 'Rune translation' and spend five minutes getting it straight, it's no wonder they didn't bother with all the other plot holes! Such a lack of effort is just depressing. Speaking of, since when were witches connected to plants anyway? If they are, why did it take Bonnie seventeen years to realize that being a living fertilizer might not be normal? Oh, don't get me started on Bonnie! It's funny how Elena can at least be described with words like 'caring' and 'selfless'. Bonnie, however, is 'useful'... and maybe 'horny'. For Jeremy. And that's it. There's a huge hole where her personality should be.
Another thing is that vampires can grow immune to vervain. How so? They're frozen. Dead. Unchanging. Their hair and nails grow, I'm gonna guess back to the length it was when they died, but that's it. Immunity is your body adapting to something, but they cannot adapt, because THEY'RE FROZEN. Therefore, the only immunity they should be able to achieve, would be healing quicklier as they grew older. But no, apparently healing power is selective too, just like their hearing and strength(and everything else). Their lives must be so confusing, no wonder they're all having identity and existential crisises!
@Amie My thoughts exactly. The only person Rebekah was closer to than Niklaus was her mother, and yet we never got to see her reaction to Esther's betrayal, and it was great seeing her interract with a brother who does not murder and shut her into coffins for decades because he has abandonment issues. We needed that scene. We needed many such scenes. (Don't get me started on Finn!) Almost all of the so-called Original family scenes we've seen have been Klebekah scenes, which is not only incredibly annoying for those of us who like Finn, Kol and Elijah, but it's also disturbing that such an unhealthy, twisted relationship which makes the girl pretty damn miserable is idealized to such a degree. It's an abusive relationship, only it's supposed to be okay because he's her controlling, psychotic brother, not her controlling, psychotic husband.
I have a lot of Klebekah feels, and they are NOT positive. You talk about sexism, Bored Now, well, talk about Klebekah. Someone should get fired for allowing this to be on-screen. Girl has lost everything else, so she feels that she should be with the only person she has left, even though she's afraid of him, which makes her not only accept the misery he puts her through, but she also figures that she deserves it or had it coming('Nik has no tolerance for those who disappoint him. I've made that mistake several times'). And that's epic and beautiful!
If the writers wanted to have a show with rolemodels and strong female characters, they would have made Rebekah get the HELL away from Klaus in 3x03, after he'd taken 90 years from her life. Or at least made him crawl on his knees and beg for forgiveness. The scene in 3x15 was touching enough, she forgives him because he's been there for her, blah blah blah, but she doesn't ask that things will change. He could still dagger her tomorrow. If she had any sort of self-respect, she'd either leave or demand that he treat her right. An ultimatum would be nice and force him to tell her how much he loves her. Because he does, I know that - but that does not mean that she should accept all the shit he puts her through. Again, I cannot believe that she's written as a someone we should relate to. She's a horrible rolemodel. And Klebekah makes me question the standards of a 'strong' and 'unconditional' relationship these days.
Uh, sorry for the rant. I got carried away. And I hope I haven't insulted anyone: but this is how I feel. Klebekah is awful and should either not exist, or be shown as something to avoid. As in, 'Don't end up like her, ladies'.
At this point, she and Carol are the only two parents alive, and Carol is just there to host parties, not to mention that it took her fifteen episodes to figure out that her only son was a werewolf, so that pretty much leaves Liz as the show's only competent parent, dead or alive. So yeah, she definitely deserves more screentime. Like I said, I like her.
Bonnie's dad who's apparently just been off-screen for the past 66 episodes doesn't count.
I can't understand why they cut out Liz's scenes. Not only am I a sucker for mother/daughter moments, but being reminded of the council's existence in 3x11 was nice too. She's a brillinat actor and I actually like her character, I can't understand why they cut her scenes.
As for Elijah and Rebekah moment being cut, wtf? That was some beautiful acting from Claire Holt, and Daniel was ridiculously hot. Screw you, Plec.
My OTP in this fandom is Charles/Dawn. Chawn FTW. Everyone else can go marry whoever they want.
Starting to think Plec is getting idea from fanfiction now
I wish! Fanfics can be way, way better than this. Almost everything in season 3 could have been a fanfic, a bad one - 'What if Klaus had a sister? She and Stefan fell in love before he met Elena and then he was compelled to forget because she'd been daggered, but now she's alive again and his compulsion has been lifted, what will happen?.' <- and then the author tries to 'foreshadow' by making it so that Stefan got the necklace from Bekah.
Not to mention that Damon was suddenly all sweet and 'you shoul find true love and live a happy life'-ish. To a girl who looked EXACTLY like Katherine. The Damon we met in the Pilot would have kidnapped her, compelled her brains out and made her his personal slave. Elena not being drunk I can understand, she's a perfect goody-goody girl after all, can't have her doing anything less than exemplary, but Damon? It's like the writers gave a random 12 year old Delena fan two minutes of the show that she could fill whatever.
And how this is going to make the triangle more complicated is beyond me - they met, talked, he messed with her head. How romantic.
Three replies and on page 179.
WOAH this fandom is, like, huge. Clearly the majority. lol
