Caroline/Tyler is the only real pairing in this show.

Stefan a Ripper cuz "He has to" And Damon Bad Because its in his Nature
Book-wise I understand. EVEN I liked bonnie there(considering bonnie there is bassically Willow, but with less power and less darker qualities of personality) and Katherine there was bassically more insane Drusilla.
But in the show it makes no sense. Show-Bonnie is annoyingly annoying plot device and show Katherine is awesome.

OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! Naked Damon clip!!!!
Well I started it watching for Buffy (since it was nice to see someone who was not your typical teenager female lead, someone who had personality and was not portrayed as messianic goodie-two-shoes), but eventually liked every cast member introduced(while favorites still remained Buffy, Spike, Willow and Anya). The show slowly built up and made you care for every character and every relationship(frankly I shipped every damn relationship there, with spuffy being my forever otp). And the show was deep - i still love to rewatch the show every now and then, trying to catch things i missed, every smallest foreshadowing, character hypocrisies, inconsistencies between who characters say they are and their actual actions, etc.(since unlike tvd, btvs was planned from start of s2 till the ending of s7).
TVD is entertainment. Thats it. Some characters like Caroline(when not around Matt), Katherine, S1!Damon are fun and entertaining. But frankly nothing in this show has the ammount of coherence, depth btvs had. It also does NOT make me care for the characters it kills off and is just that - entertaining romp - people die, some minor pew pews, some kisses and thats it. Its not in anyway realistic. Its not exactly coherent. It does not like to develop its characters and it spends way too much on the surface, leaving the depths empty.

Let's face it: DE as it is now is horribly rushed thing. IT makes no sense in context of Elena's personality(and lack of it), storyline and her reactions to damon. Heck the whole finalle felt out of place from the entire season.
As it is now, neither DE nor SE work. Both relationships are horribly botched by horribly contrived developments in them.
And unrealistic:
Are we supposed to believe that a person would take FREAKING WATERFALL climbing a person he loves the last day of that person's life? Or that he even would accept and agree with that person's stupid decision to die?
And DE is even more contrived and unrealistic. Are we supposed to believe that goodie-two-shoes miss-perfect-no-personality-messiah-cares-about-everyone Elena wants and likes an abusive serial rapist serial murderer who snapped her brother's throat in front of her while she begged not to, raped her best friend caroline and tried to kill her multiple times, raped and is raping andie, tried to take a chunk out of bonnie's neck, was indirectly responsible for bonnie's grandma's death and forced blood down elena's throat?

most decent of teen dramas? sure.
For weirdness and x-fileness, i'll go for Fringe. For twin-peaksy wtf-ness and almost-normal romance ill go for Haven, for top-quality quality actors, huge plot twists ad unexpected deaths ill go for Game of Thrones. For character development and awesome characters i'll read dresden files.
BTVS encompased the top quality of all these things plus entertainment.
TVD is only good for entertainment right now. thats all, sadly.
