Where's Waldorf Forum Posts
I loved Serena and Chuck's blank faces when Blair was talking at the Salon that Dan and Blair hosted in Season 5. It was legitimately the face of most GG viewers throughout those episodes. It's like we weren't even processing Dan and Blair's relationship as a real thing. It was just a blur to me. I honestly remember my eyes staring into space and getting distracted by other things while watching their scenes. Seriously it was like being in one of my lectures at University. I didn't pay attention, nor did I care to.
Who the hell likes it when culture is EXPLAINED to them? GG is provocative. It does things symbolically through editing, costume and camera shots. Not obviously through paragraphs of analytical dialogue by Dan and Blair. A main reason why I love Gossip Girl is that I love film, and the show actually celebrates it in so many ways. Dan and Blair turned it into a high-brow, intellectual snobbery of a show for a few episodes instead of just letting us see it for ourselves.
It just carries so much more meaning when you know he is Gossip Girl. My heart fluttered <3 ahhhhhhhhhhh
Do you guys think that there is a particular reason why some people are more obsessed with Chair, and some people are obsessed with Derena?
We have two pretty strongly updated threads here for both ships.
Is there something in us that wins us over when it comes to Chuck and Blair?
I love Dan and Serena, but I am PASSIONATE about Chuck and Blair. Like they were what I needed and wanted from Gossip Girl all the time. There are people in the Derena thread that feel that way about Dan and Serena.
I just want to know why? Like do we look for different things to love in relationships? Is it our differing personalities and experiences? Do we just like and relate to Blair more than Serena? Or Chuck more than Dan?
I'm honestly not asking this in a condescending way. I don't think you guys will take it the wrong way, but you have to be careful when you aren't speaking to people face-to-face. Things can be interpreted the wrong way.
For me, I think it's because I relate to Blair more than Serena in terms of romantic experience. Serena seems a bit unrealistic in her romantic and sexual endeavours, whereas Blair is someone I can relate to more easily. I also think that I'm a sucker for a womanizer who falls in love. I think the most romantic thing a guy can do is to show a soft side and be a man for only one girl in particular. (I loved Nathan and Haley from One Tree Hill). I BELIEVE in Chuck's love for Blair because his heart is something special. He doesn't give it away easily. ahhhh so perfect!
The awkward moment when it DID post :/ and now I have two of the same thing LOL
Wahhh I keep getting blocked from this thread.
I updated my fic "The World They Once Knew"
I just wanted to know if you think Serena's thoughts on Dan seem accurate (where I mention their preceding connection, his down-to-earthness and his ability to present the truth in a witty way).
I always thought that those were the reasons Serena was so deeply in love with Dan. My friends and I think that he has always been more attractive when he is with Serena. Derena brings out Dan's best qualities.
Is this right?
The thing about Ed Westwick is that I am aware of his imperfections and I think they make him attractive.
THAT is true love.
Updated my fic :) Just wondering if you think Serena's thoughts on Dan seem accurate where I mention their preceding connection, his down-to-earthness and his ability to tell the truth in a witty way. I mean, I think that's why Serena fell for Dan in the first place.
I also think that's why Derena brings out a better side to Dan than Dair did. My friends and I all think Dan is more attractive when he's interacting/with Serena. His better qualities come out. Wouldn't you guys agree?
Fucking Ed Westwick has ruined me for other men. Thanks a lot!
PS I've updated my fics :)
I wish I could make it into the Scotch and Diamonds community on fanfiction.net, but that's for the pro's hahaha!
Some of the fanfics that people have written are actually worthy of novels. I think it's because GG is filled with provocative ideas. They don't overanalyse anything, they just give you things and you make your own opinion of it. So its a good stimulus for a creative story.
I think that's why I prefer GG over most shows. They don't try to explain things to me, they just give me drama and entertainment, and I get to make my own judgement. One Tree Hill is one of my favourite shows, but you have to admit, they overanalyse everything instead of just letting it happen. Sometimes that's a good thing though, especially when characters do bad things (ahem Dan shooting his own brother, Keith). It would have been good if Bart and Chuck's relationship got One-Tree-Hilled. They needed a Haley James style buffer between them. That's actually kind of what I'm hoping to achieve in my fanfic "The World They Once Knew." Except Dan is kind of going to be the Haley.
I honestly think that Derena and Chair became equally representative of Gossip Girl by the end of it because they both symbolized the main themes of the show and what set Gossip Girl apart from other television shows.
Chuck and Blair represent the show because they were controversial and exciting, and thats what the show advertises itself to be. They were almost unrealistically epic, playing on the "heightened sense of reality" notion. The things that Chuck and Blair went through are things that are out of this world and not what the average person would experience in their lifetime. But on Gossip Girl it works. Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass can only exist in the Gossip Girl world. I don't see how you could find a couple like that on any other show.
Dan and Serena on the other hand played on this "outside versus insider" theme and the whole "different worlds" idea. That is a key aspect of the show as well and a recurring theme. I do think that the story was somehow told from their point of view because Dan was Gossip Girl and Serena was his muse. Their status as a power couple on the show was elevated when we found out Dan was GG. It doesn't matter that Dan and Serena weren't shown as much as Chuck and Blair throughout the show, because when it came down to it you knew that they were meant to be together in the end.
I also think that it's unfair to hate Dan for the mistakes he made. He was right about a lot of things in the end anyway, but I think his key mistake was choosing Blair over Serena in Season 5. You need to understand that some people get angry at Dan because he genuinely acted like he was over Serena. I know that you think that you can find tons of evidence of moments where Chuck and Blair didn't seem to love each other, but everyone knows deep down that they haven't ever stopped loving each other since Season 1. When Dan fell for Blair, it honestly looked like he had stopped loving Serena. I know now that it isn't the case, but to be honest at the time, he genuinely looked completely over her. I never got that feeling with Chuck when it came to Blair. Even when Chuck dated Raina and Eva, you knew that he loved Blair. Throughout all his mistakes, you could never say that Chuck didn't love Blair. But during the Dair period, Penn Badgley was coming out with interviews saying that Blair is Dan's soul mate and stuff like that. Dan was way too in love with Blair for a lot of people to forgive him. So yes, Serena made mistakes in Season 4 with all the men she fell for, but did we not see how she kept coming back to Dan throughout that season? At least she was more obvious about her feelings than Dan had been.
The way I see it is, Blair and Chuck were the result of Dan and Serena. Dan and Serena were the introduction and conclusion of the story, and Blair and Chuck filled the in between. Chair were an offset of the world that Dan had created because of his love for Serena.
Hi :) I've written a Derena fic, but I've listed it under Chuck and Blair in order to get more people to read it. It is heavily Derena though, but I need advise on how to write them well. I mostly write Chair fics, but I'm a huge Derena fan and this is the first time I've written about them as a real full on story. I'd love to know your thoughts on it and I'll take any advice you can give me. Here is the link:
