Nate needed consistency in the romantic department and that consistency should have happened with VANESSA. They could have been an on/off couple and helped each other's characters to be more relevant and interesting. I loved the way they tested out themes of morality, image and their future. She was the perfect ying to his yang. WTF why did he dump her for Blair? So pointless.

What if Dan is Gossip Girl?
I actually believe that Dan is directly or indirectly involved in the identity of GG. But he legitimately cannot be Gossip Girl if we look at the show as a whole.

Bart Bass is Gossip Girl
I don't think Bart created the site, but rather it was a collective idea conceived by him, William and other high power people. I don't think he operated either. I think Diana originally was the operator who received the tips and posted them at the perfect time. Anyone who observes the elite people of this show can see that Serena is the most powerful. She is the centre of them all and the It-girl. They all circle around her. That's why she is Gossip Girl's first target. You control Serena, you control all of them. Hence the focus on her. I also think that the operator has changed at least once so it's not necessarily in control of the parents anymore. I also think that Dan is involved in the identity of Gossip Girl, either directly or indirectly.

Blair's voice was so much better! She was perfection this episode.
I'm Team Brunette right now. Chuck, Blair and Dan. I felt sorry for Serena and started to like Nate's character throughout season 5. But they have been slowly frustrating me. Nate has no leg to stand on punching Dan. He's so weak of a man. Where did that come from? I know he's mad at Dan but Nate legitimately would do the same thing to further his career. He comitted a crime. He has put Serena down to help the Spectator. He doesn't care. Just last episode he betrayed Chuck. HE'S the one that encouraged his Dad to man up and hand himself over to the police. He knows better than that. Where does he get off punching Dan when he is so lame right now? Steven is Serena's downfall for me this season. Her relationship with him is what frustrates me about her.

I'm excited to know Dan's plan. I honestly think he will turn things around. I have faith in him and Derena. He's not wrong about Serena. You guys need to actually hear everything he said in the episode. Serena's heart is so flimsy she just gives it to anyone. The fact she called Steven is just her confirming that she who Dan says she is. Dan still does love her despite all that but he just wants to be treated better. Please remember why they broke up in the elevator. She always had to bring out the fact he didn't belong. I'm not saying she meant to and I do think that is mostly part of Dan's insecurities, and I think that can be easily resolved. He HAS made friends with her friends and learnt their ways. He's become them because it's the only way Serena will ever stop excluding him and taking advantage of him.
It's very simple really. Serena shows Dan that she really loves him and him only and doesn't treat him like he isn't her equal partner, and he WILL be that good guy who comes to Serena's rescue and even sacrifices his literary career. He said it himself that there is no winning without her.
