Dan had a "head start" at being a good person. Even with this head start though, he still falls short.Rufus is like SuperDad. He's even better than RL Dads -- he's always involved, there for his kids, and interested in their affairs. Chuck would have killed for Bart to give a sh*t about him, which is why Chuck fans love 1x07's scenes when Chuck is presenting the Victrola idea to his father. I loved it when this kid who was so nonchalant and Bassholish about everything became this giddy little boy. "You should SEE the place! It sells itself." Something like that. I thought it showed that he did really want his father's approval. He never fully got it, and it's something he's had to come to terms with.
I agree! dan has no excuse for being such a creep/jerk/etc. Chuck went through so much and has/had some character flaws because of it, but he's 100x the man dan is.
Here's a great essay that reinforces some of the points we're raising here:
"Actually I think you didn’t understand a thing about that scene. Because I don’t know if you noticed the full-circle situation in which the writers have put them in. Chuck did sold her out once for the Empire, and now on the contrary he would give away everything he owns in order to simply be with her. It was pretty clear what the authors were trying to do there, too bad most of the people who watch this show are so close-minded about what they ship that they have to turn everything as they would like it to be and only see what they want to."
LOL! I feel the same when I read the excitement over Dair happening and the Dair kiss. It doesn't squick me. I just don't get it. :)
I read the excitement over Dair happening and the Dair kiss. It doesn't squick me. I just don't get it. :)Oh, I get it. Dair may or may not last but at least their fans will always have their moments. I can almost bet you the writers would try to make both ship camps happy by leaving Blair single eventually, professing her love to both Chuck and Dan, needing to figure things out on her own, going to Yale with a promise that one day her destiny will lead her to the right guy and each fan base will interpret that as they choose. Everyone will hate it. But then everyone would also get a bit of hope that Blair chooses their guy.
Btw, that ain't my tumblr. i just found a twin who likes the same song as I do...and Doctor Who. But that's where similarities end, I'm afraid.
too bad that won't make fans happy. they can't do that, just to satisfy their fans. blair would never be with dan, especially in her current situation...ugh I'm so sick of even describing how ridiculous this dan/blair thing is...I so hope that it doesn't happen!
Ain't Born Typical -- I'd support that (B going to Yale -- finally something like it in the books) but Dan and Chuck will just follow her up there.
(Actually? I support it! SOMEONE on this show NEEDS to finish college! LOL)
My money's on Nate to finish Columbia in the series finale next season, as the only character to earn their bachelor's degree, with everyone else like HUH? And fans will think, "THAT's what N was doing when he had no storyline!"
And I'd be willing to bet anything that Nate these days post-100th looks at Blair, thinks about what might have been, and is SO GLAD he's not part of the Chuck/Blair/Dan/Louis/Serena cluster-you-know-what. I miss Nate being in the middle of everything, but I think he's looking better and better for not competing in the All New Blair Dating Game.
