A question for viewers who love Chair
-
Okay, after spending five thousand years working on my senior thesis, I'm free to be a raging feminist wherever I so choose.
My question is this:
Apparently, Chuck does something unforgivable and everyone hates him, this breaks up Chair, etc. The majority of people here are responding with how upset they are over the possibility of Chair breaking up. I don't blame you, I love their dynamic. BUT, is there a point in which Chuck would do something that you would rather Chair split up than for the (now unhealthy) relationship to continue?

It really depends on what Chuck does. The show has a habit of exagerrating and hyping up its spoilers and they end up being not that bad. So, lets see what Chuck does. But if he cheats on Blair or something then the break up would be a good thing. I would want Chuck to work really hard to get Blair to forgive him because I really want them to be endgame! :)
Like I was on Blair's side and was happy about the breakup when she told Chuck she was done in 2.15 coz I think she needed to be true to herself. When they got back together I was soo thrilled though!

The thing about Chuck and Blair is that they're the darkest people on the show, meaning the writers can push them to doing the worst things - to others, to each other. And the truth is I want to see that - the story of how they can be so twisted and still be right for each other. That's exactly the challenge with them.
But here's my question: is the writing about...
- THEM, showing how they can be STILL right for each other (do the writers believe they're endgame?) Example: this dark fic. If Gossip Girl can get to that point on the show, I'm sure it would absolutely hurt Chair for good for a lot of people. But if there's a story to be told, then I could watch it.
- BREAKING THEM UP, showing how they are no longer right for each other (because the writers do have a right to explore other couples)
- or JUST show hype? Because that's really the problem with Gossip Girl, they tend to do things for the sake of creating drama and hype.
Right now I don't know what that breaking point is. I want to see how far C & B go to prove that they love each other (but the moment they start keeping them apart (see 2.15) it'll stop being about that).
(Interestingly there was a thread before about "what's your cutting point for Gossip Girl" - a lot of people mentioned Vuck, Chuck falling for another girl, etc.)
Now, where the hell is the ATC thread?

Oh, this thread needed to be made.
I'll just wait and comment later, when more people have responded. Maybe there'll be some interesting discussions here.

If he sleeps with Jenny, I'm gone. Other than that he can pretty much do whatever he wants to, lol.

Thanks, WKA. If you ask JKay, I actually obsessively follow the GG conspiracy.
Personally, I do think that there are a lot of point where I would want Blair and Chuck to break up as opposed to stay in an unhealthy relationship. I'm hearing things like he hits her (oh god, I hope they don't go down that path), that a sexual harassment from the past returns (which might be light wording for rape... let's not forget the pilot), and even that he "de-flowers" Jenny (god, I hate that term). I won't go into it, unless you've seen my past life when I was on my soapbox, but the writers have a tendency to be very insensitive towards otherwise sensitive characters' emotions.I hope that's not what happens here, but given what has happened so far this season (the undeserving punishing of Blair, making her into a whipping girl, having Blair ask Chuck to kiss a man when her father left her mother for another man... like that's not going to scar her, etc) I'm not holing my breath.

idk? that blurp pissed me the hell off too. i was like ffs why would she get chuck to kiss another dude? wasn't one of the reasons she started becoming bullimic in the first place? i kno for the more shallow fans who need everything told to them, it seems like nate is all 'the reason'. but being a lick of intelligent tells me otherwise. plus i read exactly how she started down that path in the books and i'm assuming since she's bullimic in both that's where the tv writers pulled it from. nevertheless, her father was one of the reasons and i do believe she mentioned how she felt briefly in the first season. either way blair is like the last person to pull what she did but the writers had her do it and not only that used it as an opportunity to put chuck on his high horse and make blair look like shit.
which i'm gettin so damn tired of.

Sweeti, it has been months since I've told you this, but I fucking love you. Bulimia is a condition that is wired in so much more than getting a boy's attention. It's about controlling something when you feel as though you have no control in your life, like when your father leaves for another man and you feel as though your life is spinning out of control. Actually I'm surprised the writers didn't bring it up last season during her downward spiral. It would've logically been a wiser choice than copping out and having her sleep with Jack.

Blair: You say I always bet against you. Not this time. I'm all in.
