All shipping aside (for once)
-
I thought this was a good episode.
Take all ships out of the equation and think about how well written and well executed it was. IMO it had meaty dialogue, no empty filler scenes, the perfect balance of humour and dramatics.
You can be mad about what the ships are doing all you want but you can't deny that the writers have pulled their socks up. Think about some of the season 3 episodes...they were plain bad regardless of ships at the end. Just boring as hell, pointless storyline, all filler. This is something I can get used to. Something for us to sink our teeth into.

To be honest, I kind of thought it was boring (maybe because i was sort of tired, and started following asleep half through it). Also, I thought most of the story lines were kind of ridiculous even by GG standards. Blair getting engaged to a prince in a matter of days because the prince needed to find the bride or else he couldn't be (what again?) was questionable even by medieval standards. Chuck, Raina, Nate storyline was also ridiculous.
Charlie, Dan, and Vanessa (I know), Rufus (I know!) and Eric were actually the saving grace of this episode.

I totally agree. lol This episode to me was boring but the Rufus, Dan, and even Vanessa were the saving grace of this episode.

I put my shipping ideals aside and just watched for what it was worth and I really liked it.
I found myself laughing at some parts and gasping at others. I was completely into it. You have to remember this is a tv show. Gossip girl is a heightened reality and that's what makes it so entertaining

I thought last week was much more boring

oh me too I did put my shipping ideals aside. and I thought the drama with Blair, Serena, Chuck, Riana, Nate were boring as hell and I did find myself laughing at some parts. My mom who doesn't really watch says Chuck's acting like Hugh Hephner lol.
But seriously I actually loved the Rufus, Dan, Eric, Charlie, Vanessa sl.

I liked Rufus, Dan, Eric, Charlie and Vanessa aswell but I thought overall the episode had a good balance. I feel like a lot of the time it's just so empty and doesn't flow well. I felt it flowed well. I also liked how it was filmed. The angles and lighting reminded me of season 1 a little

Court, I agree so much with your original post. I think everyone is stepping up their game as far as acting and emotions are concerned. They are finally doing things we can get used to actually caring for

i thought it was fucking ridiculous,
okay so the prince needs to get engaged or he can't be the king.
so, he has a party to meet his possible choices
when he picks blair, they are supposed to be dating just with rings
his mother doesn't aproove of her which makes him want to marry her for real? and abondon the kingdom.
DA FUCK?????
im sorry but i this is just so dumb...

This episode was boring and predictable. We all knew that Blair was going to get engaged to the Prince. It was only a matter of when. As for the whole Chuck/Raina/Nate drama - been there, done that. Nate is never reliable by any means.
Charlie/Dan/Vanessa - how many fucking times do we have to do this storyline with Dan Humphrey. Leave him alone in his Blair-love PLEASE! God.

Blair: You say I always bet against you. Not this time. I'm all in.
