Sometimes I even wonder why these two are friends since they seem to have very different values. Especially if Serena begins an affair with Trip next week. I totally understand why Serena and Georgina were friends though. It makes more sense to me.

I totally understand i thought that when you are best friends with someone that you have some things in common but the writers have made blair and serena exact opposites wit their personality and their values. I still cant believe how easily blair got over serena and nate in season 1 and how she got over the yale thing in season 2. I hate the term when they say frenemies like what poppy said to serena in season 2 and serena agreed so why are they still friends if serena says they are frenemies.
serena and georgina make a good match for best friends both wild and do what they like... i mean blair and serena are complete opposites when you think about it
blair, a+ student, virgin queen,has morals,dresses immaculately etc
Serena, Bad grades, Slept with nearly every guy, Wild child, Dresses like a hooker sometimes, etc
dont get me wrong when they have nice scences together e.g 2.24 at the end of prom when they were sat on the steps its truelly a heartbreaking moment but when they fight all the time and then its over within an episode truelly down to the writers again!

They are like the yin and yang and any other things that are very different but are not complete if they are not together.
Serena is carefree and free-spirited and sometimes Blair need that, not to worry, let go a while and live in the moment.
Blair is planner and reserved and Serena need that, need to know that She can´t always go through life doing what she wants and not take things seriously.
Serena helps Blair to be more free and Blair helps Serena to see things as they are.

I honestly don't want them to be friends. I mean Serena always acts like she has no clue and is "accidentally" taking things from Blair and hurting her but that is so not true. Yale had been a fairytale for Blair from go as much as Breakfast at Tiffany's so there's no way Serena didn't know how big of a deal even attempting to jeopardize that is. Blair making jokes about dreadlocks and lesbianism is Blair being Blair, that is how she talks about all other schools that are not Yale, that has jack shit to do with Serena and doesn't justify trying to take away someone's oldest dream. PEople get all persnickety and say that it was Coach Carr that took her dream, but that was way after Serena made several attempts (ie that dinner party) and those attempts are what had her so freaked out she was doing batshit like dying when Carr gave her a B in the first place.
Also the deal with Eleanor. She knew that Blair had mommy issues, just like she did. So why would she be chilling with Eleanor while Blair is still asleep, having a social gathering with her without even going to get Blair. It's retarded. My mother used to pull shit like that with my friends and only one of them went for hanging out with her when I wasn't present and she got dropped off the friend list quickly. A true friend would see that for what it is, the mom trying to hurt the kid or expressing that she wished she had a different daughter, and not aggravate the situation by pretending they are just being innocent and taking things like Serena did with that fashion show. And the photoshoot.
The honest truth is that Serena is not better liked because she's nice, because she's honestly not that nice and it was hinted she was full on Georgina mean on the regular pre-pilot. She's that popular because she is leggy and breasty, blonde and pretty, and always dressing and acting like a Paris Hilton-style whore. She's running around topless, getting out of limos with no panties, getting drunk all the time, hooking up with every guy and his brother, even if they are/were dating Blair. After the same thing happens enough times it's not an accident or a random event, it's a pattern and Serena has a pattern of skating through life on skankiness and then judging Blair on scheming to get what she wants (at least she can keep her underpants on to do it) and then being mad when Blair gets mad at her for being a self-involved bitch.

Opposites usually attract. Also, presumably they've been best friends since they were children, so perhaps they had more in common then but in time have grown into different people - but that doesn't always mean people fall apart. Two close friends of mine who are best friends are very opposite. One is confident, ditzy and promiscuous and the other is sheltered and very down-to-earth; but when they are together they get along fantasticaly despite how different their personalities are.
