Blair and God? (spoiler)

I don't really get why Blair is so obsessed with God right now. I mean she has been really sinfull since the beggining of the show. She is nothing like a virgin marry praying to God and keeping her vows to him...
If I were her I'd be more worried about going to hell after bullying everyone in high school,insinuating my best friend went in a mental institute, banishing Jenny from Manhattan, destroying Juliet's life and ruining things between Eva and Chuck....*and the list goes on and on*.... I mean if God truly exist and can make people die if they don't respect him (which is what she believes right now) then she must be really worried about her own faith.
As of me, I think God forgives everything... I mean if he can forgive her for all her sin then I think Chuck is safe, no need for keeping her pact.

and of course, out of all people on earth who were praying when Blair prayed to God..God listen to Blair...Not little africains with no food or people who are suffering from cancer or even people who were dying at that time. Of course Blair would think that God listened to her and only her (narcisism).

Blair praying to God was completely understandable. I have a hard time believing that Blair would let chuck go just because the nurse just happens to show up right after she Mae her promise to God.

I think that's the whole concept of God. He cares equally for everyone. I think being omnipotent and omnibenevolent is in the job description of a deity in any religion.
Moreover, I doubt that it's narcissm. It's just a part of human nature, when someone you care about (removing all personal feelings about a fictional character I can't even be bothered to dislike any more), you don't think about the starving children in Africa and the terminally ill. You think about yourself, and how somehow what's happening to you is infinitely more tragic because it's happening to you.

This is what happens when the writers get lazy and start copying other people's plots, actually. 'The End of the Affair' is a novel by Graham Greene where the main character was in a similar predicament to Blair and makes a promise to God. Of course, it made a whole lot of sense in that story, because she had already been questioning the importance of faith and God for her own reasons. It's a shame, really, because the book is an absolute a corker, in my opinion.

I don't have trouble believing she would pray to God at a time like that. Although I personally have trouble believing in the concept entirely, lot's of people find comfort in it in times of stress.
Like someone said above, what I have a problem believing is that after things have calmed down she would stubornly cling to that promise. Granted my knowledge of religious mattters is hazy, but as someone informed me on the Dair thread, doesn't a benevolent omnipotent God imply that there is no need for a ridiculous bargain like that?
I.e if she is religious enough to make the promise in the first place (although isn't this awfully out of left field for Blair to be this religious), she should know enough about her faith to know the nature of the supreme being she is praying too.

Haven't read the book, but loved the movie. I agree it's a shame that GG butchered something for drama effect and no sense whatsoever. At least that's what it sounds like, haven't seen it yet.

Both book and film are good, but the book offers more context I think.
If they were going to pilfer from one of the (IMO) literary greats that could have least had the common curtesy to up the quality of their writing for the occassion.

They need to S.T.O.P leeching off stuff from other hit novels/tv shows/movies whatever under the pretense of "getting inspiration" seriously tired of this. Do they really have no original idea as to how to clear up the mess they have made in GG?Posted 1/17/2012 8:11:37 AM #

blair just became the most stupidest character of this show after this episode. Josh Safran completely killed the Blair Waldorf we have once knew for the last 4 seasons.
