I sort of don't feel any sympathy for Blair
So funny when I remember back to 5x3 and the paternity test. When he was being pushy about it, he got criticized a lot, now, despite the fact that he did try to stop her, he's being criticized for not doing enough. Dan, you can't win. LOLPosted 2/3/2012 4:25:54 AM #
I actually LIKE Dan , believe it or not. My biggest problem with this Dair storyline is that they are completely neglecting the core relationship on the show which is Serena and Blair. I will find it hard to swallow if Blair , knowing Serena is in love with Dan , goes ahead and starts a relationship with him. Also I think Dan if he loved Blair would not come in the way of her relationship with Serena. These two girls are best friends and nothing should come between them - it happened in Season 1 with Nate but their friendship triumphed , I hope the writers don't go down that road again .
I would understand if it was a thing in the past with Serena and Dan , but in the very last episode Serena said she loved Dan and I will be shocked if Blair would do this , would just show how much she has changed from the B we all grew to love.Posted 2/3/2012 4:50:43 AM #
Exactly it happened with Nate. Blair got over it despite blair being with nate since they were little. Serena and dan havnt had that long of a connection, so serena should suck it up and be happy for blair if blair does end up liking dan. Serena does not own him and that is what friendship means.... being happy for the other no matter what path each other decides to takePosted 2/3/2012 5:37:20 AM #
My point was that IMO I don't think Dan was being a good friend to Blair, you make the point that he didn't talk to her on the wedding day - fair enough. But that's a big difference to standing up on the altar playing the part of best man when the bride doesn't want to marry the groom due to a pact she made with God and is marrying someone she doesn't actually love.
Let me ask you a question? Was a bride an impaired individual who couldn't make her own decisions? Blair knew what she was doing and why she was doing it. The responsibility for her action rests fully on her. Dan can't be held responsible for her making a mistake. Besides, everyone up to that point thought that Louis actually loved Blair and Blair was fully committed to that marriage. What else could anyone do? Abandon her on her wedding day because they disagreed with Blair's decision? Not too friendly is it? And as for Dan talking her out of this thing, if he did, how do you think it would be perceived by audience? As an act of selfless friendship? Hardly. Dan would have appeared selfish, trying to talk Blair out of marrying Louis so that he had a chance with her for himself.Posted 2/3/2012 6:29:30 AM #
I will find it hard to swallow if Blair , knowing Serena is in love with Dan , goes ahead and starts a relationship with him.
Serena knowing Blair was in love with Nate went ahead and slept with him. Chuck knowing Nate was not over Blair went ahead and pursued her. And please don't tell me it was because they didn't care about their friendship as much as Blair cares about her friendship with Serena. This isn't anything original. Just GG recycling same old storylines.
Also I think Dan if he loved Blair would not come in the way of her relationship with Serena.
Again, you are putting the weight of the world on Dan's shoulders. Serena and Blair's friendship doesn't rest on Dan. Serena not accepting Blair's and Dan's relationship shouldn't be the reason they don't pursue it, if they both want it. Is it now the 11th commandment that thou shall not hurt the feelings of Serena van der Woodsen?
To be honest, I think on this show the Dan and Blair love affair is as likely as Serena getting a PhD in astrophysics. However, I do think they make the best match and have the storyline with the most potential. Sadly, though, to me it looks that the writers are milking this potential into a dead point and it's going nowhere. I'd be very surprised if they actually dare to let Blair have real romance storyline with someone other than Chuck.Posted 2/3/2012 6:45:45 AM #
@Ain't born typical- The reason I bring up the Serena thing is to show the difference of what Chuck and Dan will do when it comes to Blair's best friend- Chuck locked Serena and Blair in an elevator to sort out their differences because he knows how much they mean to each other. Dan at the minute is blinded for his feelings towards Blair and isn't thinking about the consequences. Besides the fact that Blair's character has changed dramatically from the Queen B we all actually know is her real character, she has always had the bond with Serena. The thing with Nate happened when they were 17 year olds in high school and Blair forgave Serena. I would like to know how she will do this U turn suddenly and be with Dan when in the last episode she was encouraging Serena to tell Dan how she feels. Also the synopsis for future episodes says that Blair does her best to prove to Serena that her suspicions are not true. So while I LOVE Dan and Blair as friends , i think changing them into a couple right now will further complicate things. As a Blair fan I think she needs to stay away from all men and get back to being the B that we all know and love. And both Chuck and Dan should allow her to do thatPosted 2/6/2012 3:04:59 AM #
I take issue with the fact that Blair not only knows Serena has feelings for Dan, but encouraged her to tell him, and she isn't in love with Dan. If she actually gets with Dan after that, her character is unsalvagable IMO.
That said the show might work it somehow, Serena gives them her blessing or whatever. And I don't think it's fair to look back 5 years ago and say 'Oh, well Serena slept with Nate, so it's okay.' Two wrongs don't make a right; if Blair forgave her for it, then let it go. You can't forgive someone and hold it over them, might as well not forgive them at all.
Also, Dan is to Serena what Chuck is to Blair; Nate isn't comparable at this point. Serena felt bad, she was drunk, and it was a typical decision of her character at the time; rash and stupid. Blair's biggest flaw IMO is her deliberate cruelty, and that's what a Dair relationship will be at this point, it's unaviodable. Not saying they dont deserve a chance or that they shouldnt be together, but if serena is upset, it's completely justified.
As for the OP, I agree wholeheartedly. Repeatedly Blair was told, even in that one episode, not to marry someone she didnt love. Still she pursued it. The girl had ample time to call it off, and she treated Louis like crap up until the wedding. She brought it on herself, and I find it pretty hard to feel sympathy for her.Posted 2/6/2012 4:44:23 AM #

The crux of the matter to me is that Blair actually encouraged her in it, it's like giving her hope only to crush it later. Also, I'd like to see the fanbase's response if the situation was reversed. If Chuck was interested in Serena, and Serena chose to pursue him even though she knew Blair loved him people would erupt, and she'd be a slut and a bitch blah blah blah. It's the double standards that favour Blair (who is legitimately not a good character right now).
And tbh Nair and Derena aren't comparable. DS was consistent season one and two, recurred at the end of season three and were present in most of season four. Nair was a fleeting fancy at the start and agin in season two, that's it.Posted 2/6/2012 4:50:38 AM #
GGFan76, personlly, I cant wish a better ending for Blair than to dump all of these men and get back on track: apply to Yale and figure out what the hell it is she is good at aside from being in endless love triangles and tortured love affairs. That would redeem this show in my eyes if she can say screw it and move away from all this madness. But lets face it: this is as likely as Serena getting a Nobel prize in literature. The writers want drama and they like creating conflicts between Blair and Serena.Posted 2/6/2012 8:43:52 AM #
Dair will be deliberate cruelty? You know that even if Blair rejects Dan it doesn't mean Dan will get back with Serena, right? Serena and Dan have been over for a while. Serena moved her boyfriend into Dan's loft. I don't see why Dan should now be interested in her because she read some blasts or has lost her position as #1 in Dan's life.
So the main issue here is that Serena has feelings so DB shouldn't be together. Really? What about their own feelings (if they have them)? They can't live their lives for her.Posted 2/6/2012 11:01:30 AM #
