Is the 'deal with God' thing really that ridiculous?

Don't get me wrong, I think it's pretty obvious the writers just threw it in as yet another Chair obstacle. And the whole 'Blair visiting a priest and converting to Catholicism' - sorry, but IMO it's a complete mockery of the Catholic church, and what kind of priest arranges secret meetings to discuss a random girl's love life? No. BUT...having said that, I don't think the basic idea of her deal is all that strange. When you're that desperate and come that close to losing someone you love, you'll do anything - and anything after that to avoid anything like it happening again. I know lots of people are ridiculing Blair for being so 'superstitious', but if something like that happened to me, I wouldn't be taking any risks. Yes, logically Chuck woke up because of medicine, but when someone gets that desperate, logic doesn't come into it. And let's not forget that Blair is probably feeling so guilty - she was about to abandon her fiance, and ended up instead losing her baby and nearly losing the love of her life. Is it any wonder she thinks God is punishing her? And let's look at the facts - anytime Blair tries to do something wrong, it ends up blowing up in her face; can you really blame her for thinking bad things happen because of what she does? I think this whole 'deal' thing is a sign of guilt. She feels like she needs to be punished. I'd actually be shocked if, after what happened, she HAD just jumped back into Chuck's arms and tried running away with him again. And ok, the writers are probably just using it so they can have that big bloody wedding for their 100th episode, plus alot more Chair angst (since that's what they seem to rely on Ed and Leighton for)...but as plots go, I don't think this is one of their epecially ridiculous ones. In fact, I'd say it's the only one that's made sense since the indecent Proposal break up. Just bad luck that it comes after so many contrived obstacles, so ends up looking like another one.

Yes, logically Chuck woke up because of medicine, but when someone gets that desperate, logic doesn't come into it.I totally get that in a moment of true fear for chuck she made that promess to God. What we don,t understand is why weeks after she can't process all the facts and would choose to be unhappy forever instead

anytime Blair tries to do something wrong, it ends up blowing up in her face

NO, everytime Blair is with Chuck everything goes wrong. It's what has been going on for years

I do agree, it's just a way of keeping chair fans happy AND waitting.

I don't think bargaining with God is ridiculous. People do it all the time. I think even those who don't believe in God. Glorification of it however as a way to make very important choices that impact your futureI personally find a bit misguided and very much wrong. And it sounds this is what GG has done in this episode (havent seen it). I don't know anything about mockery of the church, but I think it's a mockery of free goddamn will and there is no excuse for that.

Hopefully, I won't be stepping on toes here, but I don't quite see how that plot is mocking the church. The church is hardly responsible for Blair's delusions.

Personally, I found the priest's affair with the princess much more distasteful.

The show is not mocking the church, it's mocking the show. And yes I tried to make a point here.

lul this the reason why I have declared Blair is the most stupidest character on GG, her deal with dumb is so retarded she made someone as stupid and ditzy like  Serena sound smart.

I agree. When you're in a desperate place, logic is the last thing thats going to cross your mind. I don't think the concept was OOC for Blair (considering the circumstances), but I do think that the way they went about it was severely wacked.

It would've made more sense if instead of a 'pact with god' there had been reference to divine intervention or, like you said, punishment for B's misdeads. Her decision to stay away from Chuck would've made much more sense.

I've not watched it, but on face value it's not a ridiculous premise.  Firstly, cast your minds back to the beginning of 1/08 when Blair desperately ashamed at having let vulgar, nouveau-riche Chuck "manky-STD-penis" Bass take her virginity, instead of somebody of proper UES stock, visits the confessional.  Blair also displays many symptoms of the "convenience conservative", like adherance to and disobedience of elite social structures depending upon what works best for her at the time.  Blair's ultimate calling is as a Republican politician and her born-again Catholicism is going to help her with that.
